Zi Zhen sighed and rested his head back against the leather seat. His jaw tightened. Recalling how her mother had fallen into his arms all bloody, his heart always constricted, feeling pain. That image was deeply ingrained in his mind.
"I'm not hiding," he said after a while. "I'm waiting for the perfect time to unleash all the wrath. Just waiting.... waiting...."
"Time for what?" Ting Cheng asked while chuckling, his voice deep and enticing, "A miracle?"
"No," Zi Zhen whispered, staring out at the barren hills, where the faint silhouette of their destination was beginning to show. "For redemption."
The jeep jolted as it left the main road entirely and entered a dirt path barely visible to the naked eye. Their driver glanced at them nervously through the rearview mirror but said nothing. Orders were to be followed.
