Chapter 148 - Chapter 148: In the Name of MI5!

Bruce didn't see how the smoke had appeared, nor did he see the silhouette of the dummy within it. It was the White House guards who told him that Kaitō Kid was inside the smoke.

"Commander Harrison, what do you mean by that?"

Being scolded for no reason, Bruce felt a surge of anger rising in his chest.

"If you don't believe me, go check for yourself. Kaitō Kid's definitely not in there!"

Bruce stormed into the smoke like a challenge. Zhang Yang sneered coldly and, with his hands in his pockets, strode briskly toward the White House gate.

People watching the livestream were all intrigued by the mysterious man walking out.

At that moment, no one—including the agents and guards participating in the operation—knew the mysterious man's true identity.

The only ones who knew that Harrison was involved were the upper ranks at FBI headquarters and Bruce himself.

[This mysterious guy really acts like a big shot. Even Bruce listens to him?]

[Oh my god! He must be some big figure inside the FBI, someone ranked even higher than Bruce!]

[What the hell? If he's an FBI agent, why's he wearing a mask and acting all mysterious?]

[Who cares who he is? What matters is that they still haven't caught Kaitō Kid. All this mystery means nothing if it gets no results!]

[They haven't even fired a shot yet, which means no one's actually seen Kaitō Kid. You really think they'll catch him like this?]

Zhang Yang walked up to the front of the crowd and faced the media cameras.

Then he pulled off the mask—revealing himself as Harrison.

The crowd instantly burst into a frenzy.

"Oh my god! It's actually Harrison?!"

"What the hell? Didn't Harrison already resign? Why's he here in Eagle Nation helping with the operation?"

"So the mysterious man was Harrison all along. My god!"

"No wonder Bruce was following his lead—it's Harrison! He and Kaitō Kid are longtime rivals!"

People from around the world watching the broadcast were also shocked by the reveal.

[Wow wow wow, the mysterious man turned out to be Harrison. Is this his big comeback?]

[Why was Harrison pretending to be someone else?]

[What's his game now? Where's Kaitō Kid? Has he already escaped?]

[Bruce calling in Harrison for backup? That's... pretty clever.]

[Of all the people who've gone up against Kaitō Kid, Harrison probably has the highest overall skill.]

Zhang Yang took a deep breath, cleared his throat, and announced in a solemn tone,

"This time, Kaitō Kid got lucky and slipped away. But next time, I won't give him the chance."

"In the name of Britain's MI5 Investigation Bureau, I swear—Kaitō Kid will be caught. I won't stop until he is!"

Since Harrison wasn't willing to give up, Zhang Yang decided to raise the stakes even higher.

He wanted to stay in the background as the mysterious man. A smart play.

If the capture succeeded, Harrison could step forward and reveal his identity—gaining both fame and honor.

But if it failed, the only one to take the blame would be "the mysterious man." It wouldn't affect Harrison in the slightest.

Zhang Yang could tolerate a lot of unfairness—but not this kind.

All the way over in Britain, Harrison's former superior was watching the livestream—and flew into a rage.

"What the hell?! That bastard Harrison! What right does he have to speak on behalf of MI5?!"

"Shit! Who does he think he is?!"

No one had seen through Zhang Yang's disguise. After this broadcast, the entire world believed Harrison had come out of retirement.

They assumed it was just another challenge directed at Kaitō Kid—or an attempt to regain some dignity after the operation's failure.

[Harrison got played by Kaitō Kid so hard he resigned, and now he's challenging him again?]

[This is getting interesting. So... did the White House actually get robbed?]

[Is this Harrison's dramatic comeback?]

[What made him decide to return? Why is he so confident he can catch Kaitō Kid this time?]

Zhang Yang's statement to the cameras stunned viewers around the world.

Just then, a gunshot rang out from inside the White House. Zhang Yang turned to glance back, expression unchanged, then calmly put his mask back on and walked away through the crowd.

Bruce emerged from the smoke, furious, and threw the illusion dummy to the ground.

"Where's Harrison?!"

One of the agents pointed toward the White House gate.

"Commander Harrison just walked that way!"

Bruce's gaze darkened and he quickly moved toward the entrance.

But by the time he reached the gate, Zhang Yang had already disappeared into the crowd.

The reporters stationed there instantly swarmed him.

"Director Bruce, why did Commander Harrison participate in the operation under a mysterious identity?"

"Director Bruce, was it your idea to invite Commander Harrison to join the White House operation?"

"Director Bruce, did the operation succeed? Was Kaitō Kid captured? What was he trying to steal from the White House?"

At that moment, Bruce realized something was very wrong.

The man who had berated him earlier likely wasn't the real Harrison.

Now that even the media were convinced the mysterious figure was Harrison, Bruce was all the more certain.

Furious, he shoved the reporters aside and shouted at the crowd.

"Where is Harrison? Where did he go?!"

People in the crowd all pointed toward the street corner. Bruce stood on tiptoe and caught sight of a figure's back.

Zhang Yang even turned his head, gave Bruce a wave, and smiled mockingly.

The blatant provocation made Bruce's blood boil. He pushed through the crowd and gave chase.

After turning the corner, Zhang Yang spotted a parked car and jumped in, speeding away.

Bruce didn't hesitate. At the corner, he flagged down the first vehicle, flashed his credentials, and commandeered it.

The crowd and media at the White House gate were all frozen in confusion.

"What the hell? What's going on?!"

"Did Bruce just go after Harrison?!"

"Shit! Who's guarding the White House now? What about Kaitō Kid?"

"Oh my god! That guy who just left... was that Kaitō Kid in disguise as Harrison?!"

Once the crowd caught on, they all charged toward the street corner, completely blocking it with a stampede of people.

But by then, Zhang Yang and Bruce were long gone—already speeding away down the road.

Watching Bruce's car gaining on him in the rearview mirror, Zhang Yang smirked coldly and pressed harder on the gas pedal.

With sheer speed on his side, Bruce quickly began to fall behind.

But Bruce immediately contacted FBI headquarters and requested support from nearby enforcement units to intercept Zhang Yang's vehicle.

Soon, it wasn't just Bruce chasing him. Several flashing police cars joined the pursuit, and more were closing in by the second.

Zhang Yang knew exactly how American-style interceptions worked. The moment they had a clear opening, they'd try to crash into him without hesitation.

Letting them keep chasing would only increase the risk.

"Fine, overtime it is. Let's find a new place to play."

He spotted a Ferris wheel up ahead to the right—it was an amusement park.

Without hesitation, he drifted sharply into the turn and sped off in that direction.
