At this moment, everyone's hearts were in their throats—not just the onlookers, but the people watching the live broadcast worldwide were too nervous to even breathe.
"What the hell? Bruce can't be that powerful, can he? Did he really take down Kaitō Kid this quickly?"
"If Kaitō Kid is gone, what's the point anymore?!"
"Damn it, the arrogant Kaitō Kid finally paid the price!"
"Wait, is someone coming out of the building?"
"Oh my god! It's Bruce! The one coming out is Bruce!"
When all the media reporters saw that it was Bruce walking out, they excitedly reported the outcome to the live cameras.
"Currently, Bruce has walked out of the FBI headquarters building. Eagle Nation's number one agent has truly lived up to his reputation!"
"Kaitō Kid, who has stolen across the world, will not appear again. His legend ends here, at the FBI headquarters!"
"Everyone, Bruce has won! Currently, Kaitō Kid has been caught, though whether he was killed is still unclear. Stay tuned for more updates!"
Bruce walked over with a grim expression. The one coming out of the building wasn't necessarily the victor.
If Zhang Yang had decided to make his move, Bruce wouldn't have had a chance to leave the FBI headquarters building.
"Something's off… why does Bruce look like this? That doesn't look like the face of a victor!"
"What the hell, is there a twist?"
"But Bruce is already out, so where's Kaitō Kid?"
"Shit! Who won, exactly? Can't Bruce hurry up a little?"
After a tense and expectant minute, Bruce stopped in front of the crowd, his expression serious.
Microphones were shoved in his face one after another as the media reporters pressed him for the final result.
Bruce took a deep breath and spoke heavily, "Because of my mistake, Kaitō Kid got away!"
"I'm sorry, I've let everyone down!"
Bruce nodded slightly at the crowd and turned to walk back into the FBI building.
This news shocked everyone.
"What the hell? Kaitō Kid got away? That's it?"
"Hahaha, turns out Kaitō Kid won, you scared me!"
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, what a complete waste of everyone's time. We really thought Kaitō Kid was done for!"
"Oh my god! Bruce lost? That's such a surprise!"
"Surprised? Not at all. Kaitō Kid is invincible!"
A large group of media reporters followed Bruce, continuing to press him for details about what Kaitō Kid had stolen.
Upon hearing their questions, Bruce's face grew even darker.
Details?
There were no details!
The details those reporters wanted to know were, for Bruce, an immense disgrace!
His shooting speed was actually slower than the speed of Kaitō Kid's flying playing cards.
What made Bruce even more frustrated was that Kaitō Kid had managed to block his bullet with the playing card.
He had found the playing card that had blocked the bullet in the command room. It wasn't just any regular card; it was a very hard, special playing card, something akin to a special alloy.
"How could Kaitō Kid be so precise? He could even see the bullet's trajectory?"
"Could it be just luck?"
The speed at which a bullet leaves the chamber is incredibly fast—far beyond what the human eye can track.
Bruce was certain of this.
But Kaitō Kid had managed to accurately place the playing card in the path of the bullet's trajectory, which Bruce just couldn't understand.
The reporters followed Bruce all the way back into the FBI headquarters, where they reluctantly stopped. Bruce didn't answer any of their questions.
"Damn it, so many reporters are interviewing Bruce, why isn't he smiling? Is he just naturally not a smiling person?"
"I wasn't smiling before, but I couldn't help it when I saw your comments!"
"Shit! Bruce made one mistake and let Kaitō Kid get away. Doesn't he know what this result means?"
"At least he saw him and shot. That's already worthy of being Eagle Nation's number one agent!"
"From now on, the world has one less confident agent!"
Earlier, Bruce had been so arrogant, but now he was in a complete mess.
Bruce's declaration of war against Kaitō Kid had led to the evacuation of FBI headquarters agents, drawing attention from all over the world.
The final result, however, was that Bruce made one mistake, and Kaitō Kid escaped!
The FBI, being a key department in Eagle Nation, requires twenty-four-hour operation.
No matter the outcome, after this confrontation, a large number of agents returned to FBI headquarters.
This, of course, included Bruce's superiors, who were now burning with anger.
"Bruce, how could you make a mistake?"
"You promised that once we evacuated our people, you would have a great chance of catching Kaitō Kid!"
According to his superiors' plan, when Kaitō Kid came, the entire building should have been filled with their agents.
They trusted Bruce, which is why they agreed to evacuate everyone, leaving Bruce to handle things alone.
But the result was clearly not what they had hoped for.
Bruce's face was dark. The one most hurt by this was him.
"I had guessed Kaitō Kid's plan correctly, but after I fired the first shot, he suddenly changed his plan!"
"And his playing cards were faster than my gun!"
When his superiors heard this, they were left stunned.
If it had been any other agent saying this, they might have been trying to avoid responsibility and exaggerating their report.
But Bruce wouldn't lie. They knew that what Bruce said was the truth.
"The playing cards were faster than your gun? Bruce, are you sure about that?"
Eagle Nation's number one agent had mastered all sorts of guns by now.
There were very few people in the world who were faster and more accurate with a gun than Bruce.
But to think that a mere playing card could be faster than his gun was something his superiors had trouble imagining.
"If Kaitō Kid had wanted to kill me, I wouldn't be standing here talking to you now."
"Kaitō Kid is far more terrifying than what those online comments say, and look…"
Bruce reached into his pocket, intending to show his superiors the special playing card that had blocked the bullet.
But when he reached into his pocket, he pulled out a few red petals instead.
Bruce looked at the petals in his hand, giving a meaningful cold laugh.
He clearly remembered putting the playing card in his chest pocket, but now it had turned into red petals.
"Interesting. Kaitō Kid is really something!"
Bruce crumpled the red petals and tossed them to the ground.
"I'll find a way to catch Kaitō Kid. Until then, don't assign me to any other tasks!"
The three superiors exchanged glances and nodded in agreement.
They knew Bruce's temperament—he wouldn't rest until he turned this around.
For an agent, such a failure would leave a permanent mark on his mind.
It would be harmful to Bruce's future career, with no benefits whatsoever.
The best course of action was to let Bruce focus on getting a good result, a victorious one!
