Leo ultimately decided not to make any more traps for the time being considering that in 2 days, they'll have completed their quota
Greed never ends well, no matter the time or place
Before carefully taking up the tarp with the fish and turned to leave after putting the trap back into the river. Feeling even more confident after seeing the new effect
' that solves one problem ' thought Leo, he was worried that when people saw them bringing back this many fish, they'd try to figure out how and why
Probably even following and stealing the trap when he wasn't around, now that chance has dwindle to near zero.
Why near zero? Just incase there's a bronze Knight in the territory. He would never know, though he couldn't think of any reason a bronze Knight would be paying attention to them
After making their way back to the village, he found that it was still crowded but not as much as before. He found that several people looked at him and Rebecca strangely as they spoke to one another
It's only as they got closer that he heard what they were saying
" they've been gone for less than two quarts, what could they have caught? "
" who cares? More fish for us "
" strays come and go, it's nothing new. Let's go before the sun starts to rise "
' a quart? ' thought Leo as he thought of how long he and Rebecca were gone ' 15 minutes? '
Ignoring their words, Leo continued his way towards the Mayor's house, looking around at the village under the moon light only to freeze as he felt himself stepping in something
Lowering his head slowly as he raised his foot to take a look, a breeze blew letting him know exactly what he had stepped in causing him to retch much to Rebecca's confusion
After taking some time to wipe the fecal matter from his shoe, he finally glanced around carefully finding that it wasn't just here, beside the road, along alleys, all had batches of feces
Causing Leo to wonder how he missed all of this before. What made matters worse is that the feces seemed to kick start his nose, making his stench known to himself
Turning to glance at Rebecca, he found that she didn't show any reaction to what was around nor to the smell. Against better judgment, he leaned closer to her and took a sniff, only to start retching worse than when he smelled himself much to the girls embarrassment
' definitely. Definitely have to make soap and a toilet ' said Leo with an determined expression as he continued on his way. This time watching his steps
Finally making their way to the Mayor's house, he was stopped by two of the guards he saw yesterday who asked why he was there. After telling them why, he was directed to a large building off too the side not far way from the house
Walking inside, Leo found that it was a large warehouse, at least 20 times larger than their house . As he was looking around a voice came from side interrupting his thoughts
" place the fish on the scale, then tell me your name " said the man at a desk not far from the door looking at them boredly as he pointed at a black platform with a tall clear tube next to his desk.
Leo followed his instructions and put the tarp on the platform only to watch in amazement as the platform sunk slightly and liquid filled the tube stopping at a certain point
The man got up and looked at the tube seemingly reading it before sitting back down, muttering to himself
" 20kg, name " muttered the man as he wrote on a small card causing Rebecca to frown before she spoke
" we caught 25kg, not 20kg "
" 19kg " said the man, as he raised his head and glanced at Rebecca, his expression not changing. Before Rebecca could say something else, Leo stopped her
" my name is Leo, she is Rebecca "
Writing down their names, the man handed them the card before he spoke
" whenever you bring your catch, hand this card to whoever is working and they'll record your information. Don't lose this, it'll cost you 50kg of fish to replace it "
Taking the card, Leo pulled Rebecca to leave in silence. Leo clenched his fist as he heard the man speaking
" ignorant strays "
As they made their way back home, Rebecca finally couldn't help it and spoke
" he's cheating us, he just took away 6kg of fish. Why didn't you saying anything "
Hearing her words, Leo paused before he turned to look at her with a serious expression
" remember everything I'm about to tell you " said Leo before he continued " the strong make the rules, the weak follow them. Breaking those rules have consequences "
" his greed caused him to take 6kg of our fish and we can't do much now. This is because he's in the stronger position and we're weak "
" sure we could beat him half to death now so he never does it again but we'll more than likely be kicked out of this territory. This is the lightest punishment we could face. Or the heaviest punishment, death for attacking the nobles people " said Leo
" is that what you want? " he asked causing the girl to shake her head, her expression still angry. Seeing this he rubbed her hair
" so do we just take it? Let him do what he wants? " asked Rebecca
"I never said that " said Leo his expression getting colder " we have the means to catch all the fish we need, so we don't need to pay him any mind now. What we need to do is grow "
"grow strong enough to the point where we can deal with him or any people like him and no longer fear the consequences " explained Leo
" don't affect long term benefits for short term gains "

4 days later
Every day was pretty much rinse and repeat. Get up, collect the fish from the trap, register it, get cheated out of a few kilograms. Leave then go home
Leo found that he didn't know what to do with himself. He didn't have any hobbies beside working out and reading in his previous life, plus the occasional movie
None of which he could do now, so his nights were spent either talking to Rebecca or sleeping
Though, the past couple days aren't without gain as he gained more information about this world. Well a bit more basic information, nothing ground breaking but better than nothing
One day in this world is 144 quarts or 36 hours. Day time is 27 hours long while night time is 9 hours. They're 30 days in a month, 420 days in a year. Every thing else is no different from his previous life, 60 seconds make 1 minute, 60 minutes make 1 hour etc
He found out what happens to all the fish they catch. It's sold to different caravans which pass through the territory, 10kg of fish is 100 bronze gunar. When sold in other places, it can reach up to 250 gunar.
Which means little to them as they weren't allowed to sell any of the fish they caught
100 bronze gunar equals 1 silver gunar. 100 silver gunar equals 1 gold gunar.
Meaning every " stray " who's capable of staying in this village at the end of the week makes 10 silver gunar. And yet all they get is a house. 15 silver gunar is enough to build a 500sq house
How did he get all this information? He overheard it from the drunk guards of the merchants in passing and pieced it all together
' 5 days in this world ' thought Leo as he glanced through the window looking at the bright moon before glancing at Rebecca who was laying on the bed
The room was very different from how it was a few days before. The bed now had a new mattress and covers. He calls it that but it's just a large tarp filled with hay
The table and chair were replaced with new ones. 2 chairs this time, a cooking pot and several pieces of cutlery
The biggest change would have to be their clothes, while nothing compared to the guards and the mayor. Still much better than what they had before. Plus they now take baths, no soap but better than nothing
All of which they exchanged with the extra fish after completing their quota for the week. The only thing he didn't manage to get was a bow and arrows for Rebecca
Shaking away the extra thoughts, he got up to get ready for bed only for someone to suddenly knock on their door startling Rebecca as she got down and came beside Leo
Who frowned and went to the door and opened it. He wasn't that worried as he found that none of the people in this village even reached 1 point in any of their attributes. Not to mention he could instantly increase his strength with the points he saved over the past few days
Looking outside he found a middle aged man looking at him with a flattering expression. Leo glanced at him before he turned his attention to the other person standing behind him, finding that it was a girl who looked even younger than Rebecca
" what do you want " asked Leo
" I'd like to make a deal with you " said the man as he pulled the girl from behind him and pushed her forward before he continued
" I'll sell her to you for 50kg of fish "
