Chapter 99 - The Yin-Yang Eyes Obtained, If Heaven Did Not Give Birth to Me, Zhong Fabai!

"Alright, A-Yi, don't overthink it. First, take me to find the ghosts."

Strictly speaking, the A-Yi in the movie wasn't much of a chatterbox.

Maybe it was because she had long been treated as a weirdo.

And now that someone had shown up who could deal with ghosts and even make her Yin-Yang Eyes no longer such a terrifying curse, she had years' worth of pent-up words she wanted to let out all at once.

But for Renji, the most important thing right now was getting rid of the remaining eight ghosts.

Three of them he had already encountered.

He hadn't seen Sister Ba yet, but he more or less knew what she looked like.

In any case, ghosts were easy enough to identify once they got near a Daoist—aside from using compasses and other tools.

"Boss, please follow me."

There were three ghosts in the women's restroom on the sixteenth floor who had been trying to find scapegoats to take their place.

A-Yi led Renji to the entrance of the restroom, hesitating slightly over whether to bring him inside.

"Renji?"

A-Pan had just been about to use the restroom when she spotted Renji and the white-haired woman at the door.

It looked like only the two of them were there.

The woman in the red dress was nowhere to be seen.

"A-Pan, here to use the restroom?"

"Yeah."

A-Pan looked at Renji with a strange expression.

She was here to go to the bathroom, but what was he doing here?

Could he be... a peeping tom?

"Hold it for now. A-Yi, you wait at the door. I've already sensed them."

Renji raised his foot and stepped directly into the women's restroom.

That left A-Pan completely dumbfounded.

She quickly looked around.

Seeing that no one else had noticed and the corridor was empty, she hurried after him to drag him out.

If anyone saw Renji coming out of the women's restroom, they'd definitely take him for a pervert.

Inside the restroom.

A girl stood in front of the stall at the far end, smiling eerily.

The strange sight sent goosebumps crawling all over A-Pan's skin.

The day had already been full of strange incidents, and with all the rumors about this building, A-Pan was seriously spooked.

"You're ghost-blinded!"

Renji strode forward, quickly formed a hand seal, and tapped the girl on the forehead.

Her eerie expression instantly vanished, replaced by a confused daze.

"What's going on? Where's Sister Lin just now?!"

"You were possessed by a ghost. Leave now, there's nothing more for you here."

Using the Sharingan, Renji implanted a mental suggestion.

After she left, he turned to the two ghosts inside the stall.

A streak of thunder magic burst forth.

With a loud bang, the two ghosts were obliterated into ash.

"Your hand can shoot lightning?!"

A-Pan covered her mouth, staring at Renji in disbelief.

She was stunned—was this something a human could do?

Given everything he had said earlier, she began to form a suspicion.

She quickly asked, "Are you a Daoist?"

"Yeah. Here's my business card. If you run into any problems, give me a call.

Oh, and I charge for my services.

But this one's free—you were possessed by a ghost."

Renji handed over his card.

A-Pan took it reflexively, glanced at the name, phone number, and address, and suddenly seemed to realize something.

She quickly stepped forward and asked, "What do you mean I was possessed? Was it the white-haired woman?"

She was a little frightened.

After all, she hadn't forgotten what happened in the elevator.

"No. The white-haired one is my assistant.

The red-dressed woman from earlier was a vengeful ghost, and so were those storytellers.

Just now, in the lobby, aside from you, me, and Ken—everyone else was a ghost."

Renji offered a brief explanation.

Meanwhile, he was mentally calculating the situation.

With Sister Ba dealt with, only five ghosts remained in the building.

"Every year, nine people die in this building?"

A-Pan believed him.

Mostly because of the lightning he just blasted from his hand and that ghastly scream from inside the stall.

Now she finally understood why Renji had taken the red-dressed woman away earlier.

He had seen through her identity as a ghost.

And she herself had been targeted.

"That's right. But this year, the curse ends here."

"Can I follow you and watch how you deal with the ghosts?

And if you need to come into the ladies' room again, I can cover for you."

Though she spoke lightly, A-Pan really just wanted to tag along for peace of mind.

"Of course."

If she wandered off on her own, she might get killed by a ghost before long.

Since she was willing to follow him, Renji didn't mind at all.

"Let's go. Six more to go."

After leaving the restroom, Renji glanced at A-Yi and motioned for her to lead him to the next floor.

Fifteenth floor.

Sister Ba watched Renji, A-Yi, and A-Pan with a flicker of suspicion in her eyes.

She had originally planned to approach A-Pan later that night to strike up a conversation.

A-Pan didn't know her, but had been chosen as her scapegoat.

Renji had been chosen by A-Shan.

Now the two of them were together—and A-Yi was there too.

Could that busybody woman have made a move?

Sister Ba's gaze turned dark.

If that woman had interfered, she wouldn't let A-Yi off.

The ghosts in this building had all received warnings from A-Yi in the past.

And they also understood her situation now.

She was just like the old A-Yi—threatened by ghosts, unable to act directly.

It was a sort of unspoken rule.

A-Yi could try to help, but she couldn't intervene directly or warn the scapegoats.

If they escaped, someone else would be chosen.

It was a mutual understanding.

But now... A-Yi's behavior seemed off.

"Nice to meet you, Sister Ba."

"You know who I am?"

"Yeah. You're the fourth ghost I've killed."

Renji swiftly struck with a bolt of lightning and eliminated Sister Ba.

Then he turned to A-Pan and said, "You were her scapegoat.

Now that she's dead, you're safe."

"Thank you, thank you! Can I keep following you?

If something happens to me or my friends, I'll definitely send business your way!"

A-Pan gulped, still uneasy.

If he didn't let her stay, she really might get targeted again.

"By the way, why are they doing this?"

"To find a scapegoat.

Otherwise, they'll be trapped here forever, unable to reincarnate.

If they manage to kill you, you'll end up doing the same."

A-Yi added from the side.

Over the years, she had seen this too many times.

Most of the victims had been good people when they were alive.

But after death, their grudges and pain twisted them.

They came to resent the living, and in their desperation to reincarnate, they became obsessed.

The following year, they would turn into vengeful spirits who sought others to take their place.

A-Pan didn't respond.

She honestly didn't know whether, after death, she would become someone like those spirits.

"All right. If anything happens again, just call this number. I'll charge you based on your situation."

Renji handed her a business card.

For wealthy clients, he'd charge more. For those with little money, he'd ask less. That was the Daoist principle—balance and moderation.

"Okay, got it."

A-Pan nodded quickly. Money didn't matter to her right now.

What mattered was surviving.

She felt incredibly lucky to have met Renji. If she hadn't, she really might have died.

What good was money if you were dead?

She followed behind Renji as he cleaned out every ghost in the building—floor by floor.

Eight in total.

Aside from the red-dressed ghost woman named Shan, whom Renji had mentioned earlier, he personally destroyed all of them.

This left A-Pan completely relieved. Everything Renji said had proven true.

She really was safe now.

"The evil aura around you has completely faded."

A-Yi spoke softly, then looked toward the rooftop.

"And after you got rid of the ghosts here, boss, the building's entire aura has lightened. It's not gone completely, but it's much weaker."

She could still see it?

Renji needed spells to detect that kind of thing. The fact that she could just see it with her natural eyes made him truly envious.

Having Yin-Yang Eyes really was an advantage.

"If it hasn't fully cleared, then there's still a formation under the building—in the basement garage."

Renji pulled out his phone and called Liu Qing.

"It's done. Everything's taken care of. I've got video evidence. I'll wait for you at the ground floor."

A few minutes later, Liu Qing carefully entered the lobby.

When he spotted Renji, he immediately walked over.

He wasn't the least bit afraid Renji might be a ghost—after all, what kind of ghost could command thunder?

Ghosts feared lightning above all.

"Take a look."

Renji handed him the camera.

The first two videos were recorded by Renji himself. The rest were filmed by A-Yi.

Nine ghosts in total.

When Liu Qing saw the clip of Renji wiping out the red-dressed ghost, he nearly collapsed from shock.

This guy was practically a thunder god!

And those ghosts? He recognized every single one.

They were all people who had died around this time last year. All of them had returned as spirits, trying to find someone to take their place.

"There's still a spiritual formation beneath the building. Once I destroy it, the cycle will be broken. Even if other ghosts appear, they'll be able to reincarnate properly. No more killings. No more replacements."

Renji pointed toward the basement.

Liu Qing turned pale.

He had just finished a phone call with the company's big boss. The deal was that if Renji could solve the ghost problem, they would give him the top-floor suite and even offer an additional fifty million as a bonus—anything to keep him there.

But now it sounded like Renji was going to leave?

"Master, if you leave, what'll I do?!"

"I'm not leaving," Renji replied flatly. "I meant the ghosts can leave—move on, reincarnate. The haunting is over."

Liu Qing exhaled in relief.

He led Renji down to the basement parking garage.

At the very center, Renji stopped and looked up. Faintly, etched into the ceiling, was a massive spirit-binding array.

A demonic formation.

No wonder the ghosts couldn't reincarnate naturally. Even after finding scapegoats, they were likely just absorbed into this array and turned into someone else's fuel.

"Master… can you destroy it?"

Liu Qing swallowed nervously.

He had been to this garage plenty of times and had never noticed anything like that on the ceiling.

"Easy."

It was just a basic spirit trap. Destroying it wasn't difficult.

As soon as Renji broke the formation, the sinister energy surrounding the building vanished completely.

Even ordinary people like Liu Qing and A-Pan felt the sudden release. The suffocating pressure was gone.

[ Ding! Endless Reincarnation Event Cleared. Reward: One Lottery Draw. ]

As expected.

Renji understood now—he had to fully resolve paranormal events to get system rewards.

This one was easier than major ones like the Uchiha Massacre or the Battle of the Gods Valley. So, a smaller reward made sense.

"Draw."

He activated the system silently in his mind.

[ Ding! Draw Successful. Reward: Yin-Yang Eyes! ]

Yin-Yang Eyes?!

Finally!

He had wanted this ability for so long. Now it was his.

[Hong Kong Drama Renji]: "Everyone, I got the Yin-Yang Eyes!!"

[Zombie Renji]: "Excellent! That's what we've been waiting for!"

[Slice-of-Life Renji]: "Finally! The moment I saw through a ghost, I felt like I became Miko!"

[Ninja Renji]: "Shame it doesn't let me see chakra filth."

Yin-Yang Eyes were truly something else. In every world, they gave unique buffs.

Seeing ghosts with your own eyes was on a completely different level compared to sensing them with spells.

With this, Renji no longer needed to rely on tricks or talismans. His own eyes were enough.

"Boss, are you okay?"

A-Yi noticed something was different about him, but she couldn't quite tell what it was.

"I'm fine. Let's head upstairs."

Renji then turned to Liu Qing.

"By the way, my company officially opens tomorrow. Could you help clean the place? Just transfer the cost to my card."

He handed over a bank card.

Liu Qing took it and promised he'd take care of everything quickly. The cleaning might take a few days, but that was fine.

Renji wasn't in a hurry.

He gave his number to A-Yi and told her he'd call her when it was time to officially start work.

A-Pan hesitated for a second, then stepped forward.

"Renji… can I work for you too?"

She no longer had any romantic thoughts about him. She knew someone like her wasn't good enough.

But working for him meant safety.

If she got haunted again, she'd be right next to the boss. It gave her peace of mind.

Unlike A-Yi, she didn't have Yin-Yang Eyes. She wasn't sure if Renji would take her in.

"Receptionist?"

"Yes! Just normal pay is fine!"

Receptionist was perfect. She was more than happy to take the job.

"Alright. You can start in a few days."

Renji didn't mind. If he was going to run a real business, he needed real staff.

After everything was settled, Renji called Zhong Fabai.

"Hey, old man. Just wanted to let you know—I got a luxury office in the middle of Hong Kong Island."

"Yeah, that building you always talked about."

"I couldn't help it, man. I ran into some ghosts, handled their issues, didn't even charge. But the guy insisted. Said someone like me deserved the best."

"I tried to say no, really, but he wouldn't take no for an answer."

Renji could already picture Zhong Fabai's expression. The man would be fuming.

And he was right.

On the other end of the line, Zhong Fabai didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

A mix of pride and existential dread hit him.

If Heaven didn't give birth to me, Zhong Fabai… then what's the damn point of living?!
