Chapter 804 - Chapter 323: He Will Lead Us to Find It

The campfire crackled, flames casting restless shadows that danced across the clearing.

The black-haired youth raised his glass, his expression utterly earnest.

Zephyr met that sincerity head-on. His gaze softened, and a warm, quiet smile slowly spread across his lips.

---

Night had deepened.

The bonfire had burned low, embers glowing faintly as thin wisps of smoke curled into the sky.

Scattered around the clearing, men lay sprawled on the ground, drunk and satisfied, limbs flung out at odd angles.

Under the canopy of stars, a rough chorus of snores rose and fell like the sea.

"I thought you'd be staying at Headquarters," Darren said as he walked over to Tokikake and handed him a cigar.

Tokikake glanced sideways at him, took the cigar, bit it, lit it, and muttered, "Everyone else left. What's the point of me staying?"

"I've had enough of Marineford for one lifetime. A little fresh air feels pretty damned good."

"At least now, I'm a lot freer than I used to be."

Darren lit his own cigar and asked casually, "So what are you going to do next? Maybe—"

Sensing where this was going, Tokikake immediately waved his hands in a panicked refusal.

"Don't, don't, don't! Don't even think about trying to recruit me into the North Blue Fleet."

Darren blinked, caught off guard.

Before he could say anything, Tokikake was already shaking his head so fast he looked like a rattle drum.

"If I don't join, we're equals. But if I do join, I become your subordinate. Then I've got to take your orders."

Darren frowned. "You've always followed my orders."

Tokikake's face reddened. "That's because you gave me a VIP Card—no, I mean, because I was helping you out! We were doing each other favors as friends, got it? Friends! That's totally different."

Darren thought about it for a moment, then shook his head. "Even so, your situation's still dangerous…"

Tokikake waved lazily, cutting him off. "We're safe enough. You should be worrying about yourself, Darren. Compared to you, the World Government barely even cares that we exist."

"And don't go thinking you owe us anything. We've talked it over these past few days. Protecting Miss Toki had nothing to do with you."

He paused, exhaling a long stream of smoke.

Under the faint night light, his usual frivolous air seemed to have faded. The stubble on his jaw and the shadows beneath his eyes lent him the weary steadiness of a man who'd finally been forced to grow up.

"Or rather," Tokikake added quietly, "it wasn't just because of you."

He let out a sigh.

"For a Marine officer's family to be ambushed and assassinated right there in Marineford—Marine Headquarters itself… it's insane when you think about it."

"We stepped in because of our own sense of justice."

"Even if it hadn't been Miss Toki, we'd have done the same for someone else. We couldn't just stand there and watch an innocent person get killed, could we?"

"As for why we left Marineford… that was more about being lost."

He tilted his head back, letting the night breeze wash over his face as he stared up at the sky full of stars, his eyes distant.

"If the justice we've always believed in is wrong… or if the justice we uphold is just a tool for the World Government's tyranny… then what meaning does this uniform even have?"

"We don't know where the right path lies. But we do know that staying at Marineford won't lead us to the answer."

"That's why we chose to follow Zephyr-sensei… hoping that, by his side, we'll find what true justice really is."

Tokikake turned toward the room where Zephyr was resting, a small, calm smile curving his lips.

"He'll lead us to it," he said, voice firm with unwavering conviction.

Mist drifted across the starlit night.

Darren stood still, stunned.

At that moment, Tokikake seemed to shine from within, his whole being radiating a quiet, dazzling light.

He had never imagined that this lecherous, easygoing scoundrel carried such a lofty, stubborn pursuit of justice in his heart.

Even Darren couldn't help but feel a deep respect for him.

"I see," Darren said softly, nodding. "So you've already decided on your future."

"Hahahaha! Don't underestimate me, Darren!" Tokikake laughed, flipping his messy hair back with forced swagger. "I am the genius of Marine Headquarters, Tokikake!"

Darren let out a helpless chuckle.

He had to admit, Tokikake really had grown.

"But actually, there is something I need your help with," Tokikake said suddenly, as if remembering something. His gaze turned serious.

Seeing his change in expression, Darren straightened slightly. "What is it?"

Tokikake clenched his fist, his tone heavy with grief. "I accidentally broke my VIP Card during the fighting. You've got to get me a new one."

"..."

The corner of Darren's mouth twitched.

Forget it. Looks like he hasn't changed at all.

---

After giving Tokikake a thorough beating, Darren walked into the mansion with a satisfied stride.

Despite the brutal battle at Marineford and the hardships of their escape, the traditional Japanese-style residence—once located within Headquarters—was still largely intact, pristine as ever.

The night was very late.

Darren had no intention of disturbing Toki's rest, so he stepped softly, careful not to make a sound.

But when he gently pushed open the door, he froze.

A slender figure, wrapped in a nightgown, sat quietly at the edge of the bed, reading by the moonlight streaming through the window.

"Toki?"

Darren paused, then hurried forward, his voice full of concern. "Why are you still awake? Staying up this late isn't good for your health."

Toki closed her book and shook her head, smiling softly. "Husband, I'm not tired."

She lifted her gaze to him, her eyes brimming with the tenderness of a long-awaited reunion.

Looking at her gentle, beautiful face, Darren felt the exhaustion of battle and travel drain from his body as if it had never existed, replaced instead with a warmth that seeped into his bones.

She was always like this.

She never demanded to know what he did outside, never interrogated him. She simply waited, patiently and quietly, for him to come home.

She never asked, but Darren could easily imagine the loneliness and anxiety she endured when she was alone. The sleepless nights spent worrying about him—what he was facing, whether he was hurt—lying awake, unable to rest.

"Toki, I'm sorry," Darren murmured, holding her hand tightly and sighing. "You've had to suffer because of me."

"How could you say that?" Toki shook her head gently, her smile as soft as the moonlight.

She lifted her chin, her expression full of undisguised pride, and blinked playfully.

"My husband is the most dangerous criminal on these seas, after all."
