Next Morning – Sanvi's POV
The next morning, Sanvi noticed something… strange.
Her mother was unusually cheerful, smiling more than usual, humming while walking around—like she had finally gotten something she had been secretly longing for.
Sanvi, still unsettled by the night before, got up quietly and walked straight to her mother's room. Something felt off, and she had to see it for herself.
As she stepped in, her eyes scanned the room cautiously.
Sanvi (thinking) – Why did she change the bedsheet? It wasn't even dirty…
She kept looking around—left, right—when something on the table caught her eye.
A small strip. A packet. Left carelessly on the edge of the table.
Her heart skipped a beat.
Sanvi (picking it up) – What the hell… why would she leave this here? What kind of pills are these?
She looked closer—and suddenly, her blood froze in her veins.
Birth control pills.
The kind meant to be taken after sex—to prevent pregnancy.
She stood there, paralyzed. Staring. Processing.
A few seconds later, her instincts kicked in—she took out her phone and quickly snapped a picture. She carefully placed the pills exactly where they were. Everything had to look untouched.
Then she rushed to her sister's room.
Sanvi (breathless) – "Aashvi! You have to see this. Look what I found in Mom's room."
Aashvi took the phone, frowning.
"Medicine? But we never had this in the house before."
Sanvi – "Exactly. Because she didn't buy them. Sonu uncle brought them."
Aashvi – "What? What are they even for?"
Sanvi – "They're birth control pills."
Aashvi – "Stop joking. Are you sure?"
Sanvi – "Don't believe me? Google it."
Aashvi quickly checked. Her face turned pale.
"Sanvi… you're right. That's why he was going at 3 am last night. Oh my God."
Sanvi's head snapped toward her.
"Wait, what? 3 AM? How do you know?"
Aashvi – "Mom woke me up. She told me to go sleep next to Aryan because she was busy doing something important.' She went to shower right after."
Sanvi clenched her fists, her stomach churning.
"This woman has crossed every damn limit."
Aashvi (quietly) – "I have more proof… I've been saving screenshots of their chats, call logs, even pictures."
Sanvi (relieved) – "Good. At least you did something right. Now we wait for Dad to return."
---
The Next Day
Their father returned.
He was calm at first, doing his regular routine check-ups. But their mother's smile vanished the moment she saw him—her face turned pale, almost as if her freedom had been stripped away.
Sanvi (whispering to Aashvi) – "You're coming with me, right?"
Aashvi (nervously) – "Yeah… but I'm scared."
Just then, Aryan's voice echoed from the living room. He was talking to Dad.
"Papa, I saw one uncle hugging Mom. And Mom hugged him back too."
Their father's expression stiffened.
"What…? When? Who?!"
Everything came to a halt.
Sanvi's mother stood frozen, her body rigid as if struck by lightning.
Aryan (innocently) – "When you're not home, one uncle comes. They talk… and they hug."
Their father stood up, trembling with rage and disbelief.
"All three of you—come here. Now!"
The girls walked into the room, their hearts pounding, carrying their phones filled with proof. Their mother stared at them silently, trying to read their expressions.
Father (angrily) – "Is Aryan telling the truth? Is this real?!"
Mother (tearfully) – "You think I would do something like this? I'm your wife! Ask your daughters if you don't trust me."
She was confident—absolutely sure her daughters would stay silent.
Father (sternly) – "So my son is lying? Girls, speak up! Is it true?!"
Sanvi (in a trembling voice) – "Yes."
Her mother's confidence cracked instantly. She knew the dam was about to burst.
Father (shouting) – "Speak louder!"
Sanvi – "Yes, it's all true. And there's more we need to tell you."
Her father looked at his wife with disgust, and hurt flooding his eyes.
Sanvi – "Mom has been secretly talking to a man. He comes over when you're not home… brings gifts which she hides or gives to neighbors so you won't notice."
Father (yelling) – "Who is this bastard?! Tell me now! We gave you freedom, and you turned into a—"
Sanvi – "He's our landlord. Sonu uncle."
Her father's face twisted with pure rage.
Father (to his wife) – "From now on, you'll live with that pig. Our marriage is over. You ruined my life. You took everything—and this is how you repay me? Get out. Go live with him!"
Aashvi (softly) – "There's more…"
Father – "What else is left?!"
She showed him the screenshots, the call logs, the pictures.
Aashvi – "You were gone for two days and…"
Before she could finish, their mother slapped her across the face. Hard. She stumbled, crying out in shock. Then she snatched the phone from their father and smashed it to the floor—shattering it into useless pieces.
Their father saw red.
He grabbed her by the hair and threw her down hard, slapping her across the face with rage.
Father – "You dare raise your hand on my kids?! They did the right thing! They told the truth about your disgusting behavior, and you want to silence them?! You want them to become like you?!" You fucking bitch !!!
Mother (screaming) – "Even if these children die, I don't care! Take care of them yourself! I want to live on my own terms now! Is that so wrong?! Can't I find my own happiness?!"
Sanvi – "So your 'happiness' is sleeping with another man behind your husband's back? Disgusting."
Their father was still. Dead silent. Then, he looked at her, defeated.
Father (whispering) – "You… slept with him?"
Sanvi – "Yes. Repeatedly. She even took pills. I have proof."
Sanvi showed him the picture of the birth control pills on her phone.
Her mother looked down—completely exposed.
Their father couldn't even bring himself to speak. His eyes were just filled with repulsion.
Father (coldly) – "You want freedom, right? Fine. I'm divorcing you. The kids stay with me. Tomorrow, you'll leave and go to your parents. I'll handle everything here. But you… will never stay in this house again."
Mother (smirking) – "Good. That's what I wanted. I was suffocating with you. I'll live happily now. And I'll never come back to you or your children."
Without warning, their father slapped her again—this time, grabbing her by the neck.
Father (furious) – "Get. Out. Now. Or I swear—you won't walk out alive."
She pushed him away, panting, and called Sonu with trembling fingers.
Mother (crying) – "Come quickly! My husband , this son of bitch is hitting me, and my kids want me dead! He's divorcing me! You used me and now you're leaving me?! COME GET ME NOW!"
She hung up and went to pack her things.
Meanwhile, the father locked himself in his room.
Little Aryan sat on the floor, sobbing, watching his mother packing, begging her not to leave—but she didn't say a word. She didn't even look at him.
Aashvi was already curled up in her bed.
Sanvi… just stood there.
Tears streaming down her face.
A hollow ache in her chest.
Sanvi (whispering) – "I wish I had never said anything. At least… we were still together."
