"Good Morning Noah" Noah was jolted out of his thoughts by an unfamiliar voice.
He had been stuck in this room for over 3 days now.
The stewards provided him food but that was about it, no showers or company.
However today was different, standing at his door was a woman.
She was dressed in scholarly robes and displayed on them three badges that reflected her discipline. Her hair was red and eyes were green, both physical traits Noah was heavily unfamiliar with.
"Good morning" Noah responded with a lot more eagerness than he would have liked.
"I am Edna Song, do you know why you are here."
Edna reached into her bag, one Noah only noticed after she pulled out a book, a quill and an ink jar. She laid them all neatly on a table
Within the room. She drew a chair closer to the bed and sat on it.
"No" He responded, he wanted nothing more than to leave this place and cooperating seems like the only way to make this possible.
"Tell me about your encounter with chaos. " Edna said leaning forward, her face oddly close to Noah's
The pass 3 days has allows Noah realize that's probably why he was here.
He remained silent trying to grasp how he was meant to explain all that happened on that faithful day.
"Tell me about your encounter."Edna asked agained, the irritation evident on her face.
"I saw colors, many of them. Some I don't believe exist. I thought I was dreaming at first but then the pain I experienced proved I wasn't. "
As he spoke Edna made wrote.
"There was some voices too but i don't remember"
"I need you to be a little bit more detailed."
"I barely remember anything, all I know is something strange happened and now I'm here." He was angry, being kept in isolation for 3 days was bound to mess with his emotions but Edna didn't care. She moved onto the next question.
"How did the encounter changed you?"
"Change me!" Noah replied confused at the question
"Those who have an encounter with chaos are often changed in ways that cannot be explained. How do you think demons come to be. "
"Demons, I've never seen one. Only heard of them. "
"Lucky you. "
"Well I don't think it changed me, I don't feel any different." Noah said.
In response Edna reached for her bag once again. Bringing out a mirror and pointing it at his face.
Noah stared at his reflection in shock.
His eyes were a gradient of many colors, beautiful in a sense but odd.
"Did you develop any odd abilities"
"Like a saint?"he asked
"Yes, like a saint. "
"No."
"I don't believe you, but I can't think of any reason you might be lying so I'm just going to say this. Those who encounter chaos either become demons or saints, if you have no abilities then you are no saint. Do you know what happens to demons?"
Edna stood up getting ready to return Noah to his isolation.
Noah sick of his confinement knew he had to do something.
"Wait "
Noah sighed at his helplessness, if he was indeed a saint, his life would never be thesame.
He knew of Saints and the way they operate. He would be forced to journey across the Empire hunting demons.
That's was far from the picture he painted in regards to his future.
He stared out the window barely large enough to contain his head.
"I can see a light in that direction."
"What kind of light" Edna asked staring at the window.
Unlike Noah however, she could see nothing.
"Colorful like my eyes."
"What does it mean?"
"I have no idea. "
"How long?"
"Since I woke up in this room."
Edna brought out her book once again, writing a bunch of things hidden from Noah vision.
"We'll have to find out what it means. Come with me. "
She said heading out of the room into an even darker passage ways.
Without windows to provide light, the hallways was really dark.
Noah was barely able to see, but Edna had no problem navigating around.
They arrived at a flight of stairs.
Edna gripped her scholarly robes upward, allowing her work probably.
She began her descent with a lot more eagerness and impatience.
""Noah, what do know about saints" Edna asked as they walked.
Noah was stunned by the question, he had never truly met a saint just as he had never met a Demon.
Most of what he knew came from tales whose validity can be challenged.
"Odd fellows have heard. "
"When an individual encounters chaos, they are altered in ways that cannot be explained. Most of the time this change destroys the mind giving rise to demons, but the very few that can go through the transformation without loosing themselves are called Saints. Saints are responsible for protecting us, they are the only thing that prevents the Empire from being consumed by Demons. If you are a saint, this responsibility will fall unto you as well."
Her words placed Noah in deep thought, he was most likely a saint, he knew and Edna knew it as well.
"I don't think I want such a life. "
"Unfortunately you don't have a choice. "
At the end of the stairs was a door.
Edna brought out a key from her bag opening the door.
Noah once again experience the bright light of the sun.
Now outside he was given a view of the place he had spend the last three days in or do he thought.
"Also you were unconscious for a month."
"Wait what."
The place he had been locked was a giant stone tower.
But that wasn't the only thing to catch his attention.
There were 11 other towers all surrounding a even larger building.
To a boy like Noah it was the most magnificent piece of architecture he had ever seen.
"What is this place." Noah asked Edna as he struggled to take in the brilliance around him.
"The School of Quin"
'Wait but that's in the capital, I'm in the Empire's Capital'
Being so far from home made Noah a little bit distraught, however refraining from drawing attention he calmed himself down as best as possible.
They got to the doors of the School.
He had heard about the school countless times back home.
Mostly from men who gained pride reaching the doors but he was going to enter.
"How am I here?" He asked Edna evidently disturbed by the situation.
"I was unconscious for one month but that's still not enough time to journey to the capital from my home town" He asked Edna who replied with a shrug indicating that she didn't know.
The School of Quin was nothing like Noah expected.
It had people beaming from one location to the other, several classrooms.
On their way to wherever, Edna was stopped multiple times by people who refered to her as a superior.
Noah slowly grew tired, he wanted to be out of this place as soon as possible.
He felt suffocated.
A series of twist and turns and they ended up before the office of the Senior Magistrate. The Office Door had the words senior magistrate boldly written.
"Edna, how's the new one holding up. "
The Senior Magistrate was old, bearing wrinkles that made Noah question how he was still able to walk.
He had a hair full of grey hair and a long grey beard.
He was the perfect picture of what many believed to be scholarly old men.
"He has no powers, but claims he can sense something far away. " Edna reply stung Noah a little.
"is it a trick?" The Senior Magistrate asked.
"I don't know, I plan on journeying there to find out." Edna replied
"Brilliant plan."
Turing to face Noah he asked
"How far is this place you talked about."
Not expecting a question to be directed towards him, he stuttered a little before answering.
"I can see the light but I have no idea how far it is." Noah replied.
Stroking his beard the scholarly magistrate asked Edna
"Did you tell him rouge saints get hunted down just like Demons?"
Noah felt his body grow cold for a moment, the thought of escaping did cross his mind but the senior magistrate words were a clear warning.
"When do you plan on leaving?"
"Right now."
