"Please, Akizame. I'm very curious to hear what kind of rumors are circulating about my prison," the director urged him.

—Kuroya Enma, since a very young age, has shown an extraordinary talent in spiritual control…— Akizame studied him carefully.

—From a behavioral standpoint, however, he presents certain anomalies.— He finished the thought in his mind before speaking aloud.

"Don't worry, Enma. There's no need to be so wary. Forget what I just said."

The young man walked past him, then gave him a faint smile.

"You're right. There's no point getting worked up over something so trivial… instead—"

His gaze shifted to Yume.

"I assume she's the special prisoner," he said, stepping a little too close to the girl.

"Hey, Enma."

Tetsuya stepped between them.

"Keep a safe distance."

—What is it with this guy… he's creepy— Yume thought bluntly.

"You're right," Enma replied to Tetsuya.

"Allow me to introduce myself, miss."

He made a slight bow.

"My name is Kuroya Enma, and starting today I will personally oversee your reintegration into society."

A wider smile, filled with amusement, appeared on his face.

"Tetsuya," Akizame called.

"Leave Yume to me. I'll escort her. You take the briefcase to the car."

"All right, if you say so," Tetsuya replied, letting go of the girl's wrist and heading toward the main entrance.

Meanwhile, Akizame and Yume were escorted by the director toward the elevator.

—He's not going to give us the full tour… so I can only assess the situation from here— Akizame noted, observing Enma's unnatural calm.

"Akizame…" Yume whispered, stepping a little closer.

"This guy is unsettling. Do you really want to leave me here?"

The Reikeitai member hesitated for a moment.

"Stop it."

"I'm not your ally. Back in Shinkase I gave you a chance," he said, recalling their encounter.

"You know very well we couldn't just stand by," the girl replied.

"It doesn't matter. You put yourselves on the same level as criminals and—"

The elevator doors opening interrupted their conversation.

All three stepped onto the highest floor of the prison.

Yume and Akizame were surprised.

At the center of the room stood a long column that served as a guard post.

Cells surrounded it on two levels.

In the domed ceiling there were darkened windows that opened automatically.

"So this is the inside…" Akizame murmured.

The group began descending the staircase and soon stopped in front of an empty cell. Inside there was only the bare minimum: a bed and a toilet.

"This will be your room for as long as you remain here," Enma explained.

"The guards will arrive shortly. One of my colleagues will help you change."

He gave her a gentle smile.

"The two of us can go now," he said, referring to Akizame.

"Wait a moment. I still need to ask her something."

Akizame watched her as she sat down on the mattress.

"Ren Ryuzen. What connection does he have with Kaito? Who gave him those blades?" he asked.

The girl didn't answer immediately, as if trying to understand the purpose of the question.

"I'm sorry, Akizame, but I don't know anyone named Ren. Kaito didn't talk much about his past," Yume replied sincerely.

"I see."

There was a hint of irritation in his voice.

Shortly afterward he walked away without adding anything else.

When Akizame and Enma returned to the entrance, Tetsuya was waiting for them. In his hands he held a briefcase.

"You need to take care of this as well."

He extended it toward the director.

"I was told an оружие would be entrusted to me… is this it?"

Enma opened the case, his gaze lingering on Kaito's wakizashi.

For a moment his expression became more attentive than usual.

"Exactly. Keep it with great care," Tetsuya urged.

Enma slowly closed the briefcase.

"You can be certain of that."

"Well then, my dear companions, I suppose it's now my turn to do my part."

He extended his hand toward them.

"It was a pleasure."

He smiled.

First Akizame, then Tetsuya shook his hand before heading outside.

"Akizame, can I ask you something?" Tetsuya said as he approached the driver's door.

Akizame nodded slightly.

"Why did the Council decide to entrust him with the blade? I mean, if it's really that important, shouldn't we be the ones holding it?"

He waited for his companion's answer.

"I think the Council wants to capture Kaito, if he's still alive," Akizame explained.

"And what does that have to do with the weapon?"

Tetsuya started the car engine.

"Once, Ren told me he could sense the blades—like some sort of locator," Akizame continued.

"The Council surely knows that. They placed the two things most precious to Kaito in the same place."

He narrowed his eyes.

"They want to capture him and take the other blade as well."

He turned toward Tetsuya.

"But those are only my assumptions. I don't really know what goes on in the Council's minds," he admitted.

"Don't worry, I just wanted to hear your opinion," Tetsuya said, beginning to drive away.

"The Council has always been mysterious, but lately I really can't understand them," he admitted.

"Even in Shinkase, if it hadn't been for the news that the Mugentamashii would participate in the auction, we never would have intervened."

He recalled the restrictions they had faced when acting against the Fuyumi.

"Ever since that organization started moving, the Council has been acting far too hastily," he sighed.

"I noticed that too," Akizame said.

"Even now the Council wants us to report in person at the capital. That's never happened before."

Silence fell inside the car. Both of them suspected something about the decisions being made by those at the top.

At that very moment, Yume was still waiting inside her cell.

"They won't come off…" she muttered, trying unsuccessfully to force the handcuffs open.

The sound of footsteps approaching down the corridor interrupted her.

The girl stood up from the bed and moved to the bars.

She saw a figure emerge from the shadows.

The guard was a young woman with pleasant features and a vigilant gaze. Her dark hair was neatly tied back, and the prison uniform fit her perfectly.

What made her stand out from the others was a thin scar running across her left eyebrow—a detail that broke her flawless beauty and gave her a harsher appearance.

With a serious expression she opened Yume's cell. In her hand she held a completely black uniform.

"Am I supposed to wear that?" the girl asked.

The guard didn't answer.

Yume reached out to take the clothes.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed her.

"What are you doing!?"

A punch struck her square in the stomach. Yume doubled over, gasping for air.

"It's always fun welcoming the new recruits."

The woman's voice was gentle, yet it carried a constant sense of danger.

Other guards appeared in front of the nearby cells, beginning to beat the prisoners without distinction.

"What are you doing…?" Yume asked, in pain.

In response, a kick lifted her off the ground.

Her body slammed against the wall behind her.

The woman approached and lifted her face by the hair.

"In this prison, trash like you must be punished."

A macabre smile crossed her face.

Throughout the prison, the screams of the prisoners began to echo.
