Author's Note: Before We Begin
Hello everyone, welcome to The Author's Game! Before you dive into Chapter 1, there are a few quick things I want to share about the writing process and what you can expect from this story:
0. I'm a Complete Amateur
I actually have zero real-life experience in writing or story-building. This entire webnovel is purely a fun hobby born out of my imagination whenever I'm bored and have too much free time to kill. So, please bear with my amateur writing!
1. What to Expect: The Vibe, Lore, & Pacing
If you are looking for a fast-paced, brain-dead action novel where an overpowered protagonist solves everything with a single punch, this is not the story for you. The Author's Game is a slow-burn, lore-heavy blend of Dark Fantasy, Cosmic Horror, and Deadpan Comedy.
The pacing is deliberately methodical because every detail matters. You will be exploring Odia-Prime, a lethal world operating on a brutal biological magic system. You will encounter Anomalies born from human grief and urban myths, Pocket Dimension Gates run by a sociopathic cosmic broadcasting station, and a terrifying "System" that does not hold your hand. At its core, this story is heavily built on psychological battles, deep tragedies, and massive, catastrophic misunderstandings (expect a lot of the "Accidental Mastermind" and "Failing Upwards" tropes!). Our protagonist, Arzane, is a severely exhausted, underpowered F-Rank trying to survive against traumatized Original Novel Main Characters and arrogant aristocrats using nothing but meta-knowledge and sheer pragmatism.
A quick heads-up on the timeline: To give you an idea of how 'slow-burn' we are talking, by Chapter 82, we are only on Day 3 in-universe! The early chapters feature a lot of dark slice-of-life moments, establishing the grueling daily Academy routines and building the foundation of this world. But don't panic—I promise this extreme day-by-day pacing will only last for the first in-universe week (which will likely wrap up past Chapter 100). Think of this massive first arc as you, the reader, attending the Academy's brutal Orientation Week alongside Arzane. Once this first week concludes, the timeline will accelerate significantly!
2. Storyline & Revisions
The overarching plot—the grand architecture from Arc 1 all the way to the very end—is actually already mapped out and fully planned. However, the detailed, chapter-by-chapter progression is still actively being written. Because this story relies heavily on interconnected puzzles, foreshadowing, and intricate lore, there is a very good chance I will be making minor adjustments or revisions to already published chapters in the future just to ensure the plot remains cohesive and perfectly logical.
3. The Update Schedule Won't Be Rushed
Worldbuilding and weaving this complex plot together takes a massive amount of time and focus. So, please don't expect daily updates or super-fast chapter releases. I would much rather take my time updating to maintain the story's high quality and emotional weight than rush it and end up with a messy plot full of holes. Quality over quantity, always.
