Chapter 40 - Qian Ying’er's Madness

Chu Peipei shook her head. "I don't know. When I arrived, I saw her brother frantically smashing the walls, and she just sat there like an idiot, motionless on the floor."

Qian Ying'er was still wriggling on the ground, her gaze fixed on An Nan.

After a moment, she suddenly seemed to remember something, her eyes bulging as she screamed:

"Ahhh! Bitch!"

She staggered to her feet and lunged toward An Nan.

An Nan reacted quickly, stepping aside and watching as Qian Ying'er missed her target and crashed to the floor.

Qian Ying'er lay there, not in a hurry to get up, but instead began to laugh foolishly again.

"Hehehe, you're An Nan! I know you! You're a bitch!"

An Nan's temper flared at her repeated insults.

Though she had grown used to Qian Ying'er's inexplicable malice, it still left her feeling disgusted.

She grabbed Qian Ying'er by the collar and slapped her hard across the face.

With a sharp *smack*, a bright red handprint appeared on Qian Ying'er's left cheek.

"You sprayed me with sedatives, huh?"

Another slap landed on her right cheek.

"You smashed my walls, huh?"

A slap landed on her left cheek.

"Still daring to insult me here?"

A final slap landed on her right cheek.

"Full of nonsense!"

An Nan delivered a series of rapid slaps, her arms a blur, striking Qian Ying'er's face over and over.

Chu Peipei stood in stunned silence, watching as An Nan's arm moved so quickly it left an afterimage.

It didn't take long before Qian Ying'er was knocked unconscious again, her face swollen to the size of a pig's head.

An Nan released her and, pulling out a wet wipe from her pocket, casually wiped her hands.

She looked down at Qian Ying'er, who was still lying on the ground. "She has blood on the back of her head. Probably hit her head when she fell, and that's why she's so dazed."

Chu Peipei remarked, "When I came, it was just the two of them. How could they get hurt like this? This is just ridiculous."

An Nan smiled lightly. "Our door has electricity, she must have been knocked out by it before falling."

Chu Peipei nodded. "It's true, bad people get their comeuppance! They came to harm others, but ended up hurting themselves."

After a brief pause, she continued, "Her brother is no good either. He's been running a brothel in the neighborhood. He used to sell his sister's body for food, and now he's abandoned her to run off by himself."

Sell her body?

An Nan raised an intrigued eyebrow.

This wasn't part of the story in her previous life. She hadn't expected that after she left, these two siblings would fall to such depths.

Originally, she had thought about killing them outright. But now, she had changed her mind.

She glanced at the unconscious Qian Ying'er on the floor.

Only two months had passed since the disaster, and one sibling had become a brothel keeper, the other a fool.

She was curious to see what would happen next.

How would Wei Wenbin handle his now-dim-witted sister?

Would these two, once so close, end up killing each other over food one day?

An Nan looked at Chu Peipei. "You stay here and keep an eye on her. I need to grab some things from inside."

"Alright." Chu Peipei nodded.

An Nan returned home, where Fu Gui rushed up to her, wagging its tail and circling around her.

"Howl~ Howl~ Howl~!"

"Nan Jie, where are you hurt?!"

It anxiously sniffed the air, checking her from all sides.

An Nan picked it up. "Relax, I'm fine."

Fu Gui sniffed her for a while, then, seeing she really was unharmed, calmed down and snuggled in her arms.

An Nan felt a warmth spread through her heart. "Good dog. Stay home and wait for me. I have some things to take care of, but I'll be back soon."

Fu Gui immediately perked up.

??!?

She's going outside again!

It bit onto An Nan's sleeve, determined not to let her go. The outside is dangerous—don't go!

An Nan gently stroked the fur on its back, softly reassuring it, "It's alright, there's no danger this time."

She set the dog down, rummaging through her space and pulling out some dry food.

Chu Peipei had given her biscuits. Though not much for An Nan, it was a life-saving food for Chu Peipei.

Not to mention that Chu Peipei had bravely fought off Wei Wenbin for her today.

An Nan thought for a moment, then realized that what Chu Peipei most needed right now was food.

She gathered a bag of millet, two bundles of dried noodles, a box of compressed biscuits, and several loaves of bread.

These were simple, filling, and unobtrusive items.

She also grabbed a bottle of mineral water and a few bundles of candles, which could be used to make porridge or noodles.

Walking to the door, she paused, then retrieved a nail gun and a few boxes of nails from her space.

Fu Gui, seeing her about to leave again, refused to stay behind. It bit onto her pant leg, insisting on going with her.

An Nan sighed in resignation. Since she wouldn't be leaving the building, she agreed to take it along.

She opened the door to find Chu Peipei dutifully watching over Qian Ying'er.

An Nan handed her the food. "Thank you for everything today. Go rest now."

Chu Peipei, seeing what was in the bag, hurriedly waved her hands.

"No, no, no! I can't take more of your stuff!"

She had originally planned to express her gratitude for the medicine An Nan gave her, but now An Nan was giving her even more…

An Nan didn't bother with the back-and-forth, simply stuffing the items into Chu Peipei's hands. "Take it. Stop arguing, I have other things to do."

"Wait, there's this too." She pulled out the nail gun. "For situations where a nail can solve the problem, no need to fight up close anymore."

Chu Peipei stared wide-eyed at the nail gun she was being handed.

"No, no, no! This is too valuable. Keep it for yourself! I can't take this!"

In such chaotic times, weapons were for survival. How could she casually accept something like this?

An Nan once again pressed it into her hands. "Take it. I have more nail guns. This one's for you."

Chu Peipei had already given her two notes in the past and now helped her stop Wei Wenbin. She had unintentionally extended three acts of kindness toward An Nan.

An Nan felt a bond with her. Moreover, the items she was giving away didn't mean much to her.

She had plenty of food, and the nail gun wasn't the only one she had.

Though she usually kept to herself and avoided getting involved, she found Chu Peipei to be a decent person and was more than happy to help her.

Chu Peipei, holding the food and nail gun, was on the verge of tears.

"Miss An… thank you so much."

She had said "thank you" countless times, yet it never felt enough to convey her gratitude.

She had just written a note to remind An Nan, and in return, she had received precious medicine, food, and weapons during the apocalypse.

Looking at An Nan, she felt surrounded by warmth and trembled, unsure of what to say.

An Nan smiled. "Don't call me Miss An. I'm probably younger than you. Just call me An Nan."

Chu Peipei nodded vigorously. "An Nan, thank you."

Just as they were speaking, a sudden scream pierced the air.

"Ahhh!"
