|3rd POV|
"What the fuck is this?!"
Ghira looks at the massive building in front of him with shock and confusion. He remembers that this building was not there the last time he was here. Early in the morning, one of his men knocks on his door and informs him about a new building just outside Kuo Kuana's wall.
He thought that it would be another workshop that Orin made, but he was wrong.
The thing is massive, and he can see many things happening inside the building. He can see one of the drones inside the building doing something. He doesn't know what they are doing, and he knows the only person he knows created all of this.
"Orin, can you tell me what kind of building this is?"
"Hmmm? Ah, this dome…" He gestures to the glass dome in front of them, "It's an incredibly advanced hydroponic farm. It can produce enough fruit and vegetables for the entire city. I have already planted all our seeds inside the dome so they can be grown here."
"What?"
That is the only thing he can say in that answer. Ghira doesn't know what else to say about the massive thing in front of him. And by the look of the others, he is not the only one who looks at him as if he is some sort of God who is bored.
"Hmmm? This is a Hydroponic Farm."
"What is a hydroponic farm? You said that as if we already know what that means."
"Wait. You don't know what I mean by a hydroponic farm?
"No! Does anyone know about that?
Ghira looks around at the people around him, waiting to see if anyone knows what Orin means. Seeing that there is none, he looks at Orin and sees his shocked expression. Orin never thought that this world didn't have any hydroponic farms. They have a mech, but they don't have any hydroponic farms.
"Right. A Hydroponic Farm is a farm that uses water-based nutrients rather than soil. That means I will use water instead of soil. Our land is barren, and I need a solution for our food problem. Because we no longer need to worry about water and energy, this type of farm will be perfect for us. It requires a lot of water and power to maintain, but we already have it, so I decided to make this farm for us."
Ghira looks at him for a few seconds before releasing a sigh. He can feel a headache starting to appear, and he has not eaten breakfast yet. However, he does understand this kind of thing will bring prosperity to the entire Menagerie.
"Do you need help with this thing, Orin?"
"Yes, actually. Do you know anyone who wants to work as a farmer? I need a lot of them for this thing. I need them to monitor and harvest the fruits and vegetables in this dome."
Truthfully, Orin does not need anyone to maintain this dome, but he remembers that he cannot make anything automated. It sounds great, but it will breed laziness, and from that laziness will come curiosity, and from that curiosity comes debauchery.
That is how the Eldari from the 40k universe became the way they are. It comes from how their race stagnates because everything they want can be obtained easily from their automated factory and shit. They then start to explore things that make them happy and lead them to a debauchery on a world-ending level.
That is an extreme example, but he doesn't want his people to experience that kind of thing.
Because of this, he decided to create jobs for his people to keep them busy.
"They need to learn a few things, but it should not take a couple of weeks to a month of learning."
Ghira looks at Orin for a second before saying.
"How many people do you need?"
"Hmmmm… 120 people should do it. I am planning on expanding this thing. So, it will open more jobs for people. Hold on. Now that we are talking about jobs… I don't have anything to pay them with. Urgh. How about this? I will pay them after the next harvest and after we have sold these goods to the other kingdoms. How about that?"
"Leave that to me. I have a connection in Vale and Vacuo. They will not reject foods sold to them. It will not take long before we sell all the fruits and vegetables we want to export. As for their salary… You know that you have a lot of money, no? We sell the dust we mined not too long ago to Vacuo and Vale. As promised, I have already paid you the amount we owe you."
"Really?"
"Yes. Check your bank account."
Without thinking twice, he opens his account and widens his eyes at the number in his bank account.
"H-How much dust do you guys sell?"
"We only sell 2 tons of dust, why?"
"Then how can I receive three and a half million Lien? I thought that a ton of dust is around a million Lien?"
"What? No. That was the price a decade ago. Since then, the price of dust skyrocketed, and combined with the fact that many robberies are happening across remnants, the price has skyrocketed."
"Adam?"
"He is among those people, yes."
"Right. How much is a ton of dust?"
"3.5 million."
"Wait. You give me half."
"Yes. You found that place. You deserve half the profit. I will not cheat on you, Orin."
"I see. That means I don't need to worry about not paying the new worker."
Orin immediately thinks of how much money he will pay his potential worker. When he is done, he looks at Ghira and says,
"When can I expect those new workers, Ghira?"
"Give me two to four days. I need to recall them from other kingdoms."
"Right. I will be waiting for them, then."
"And what will you do while waiting for them, Orin?"
"Making sure nothing is wrong with all the machines in this dome. After that? I will make more things, I guess."
Ghira turns toward Orin and looks at him from top to bottom. After a few seconds, he says.
"Do you get any sleep, Orin?"
"Hmmm? I've yet to sleep, but I can take one later. There is this project that I need to complete today."
"You can finish that later. For now, go to sleep."
"But…"
"No! Go to sleep, my friend. Your project will not go anywhere."
"But…"
"No! You need to go to sleep, Orin."
Orin releases a sigh and nods his head when he sees that Ghira will not change his mind. With a sigh, he decided to put away the project and return to his workshop to go to sleep. Tomorrow, he will make more things; this time, Ghira will not stop him.
