The exquisite, hand-painted porcelain vase—a fragile antique imported from the distant Kanto region—shattered against the stone wall of the grand chamber. Shards of cobalt blue and pristine white rained down upon the obsidian floorboards like frozen tears, skipping across the polished surface before coming to a rest near the heavy, iron-bound oaken doors.
Ghetsis Harmonia stood amidst the wreckage, his chest heaving under the heavy layers of his elaborate, asymmetrical vestments. His singular eye, burning with a cold, manic fury, locked onto nothing as a low, guttural growl vibrated deep within his throat.
He roared, his voice echoing off the vaulted, gothic ceilings of Team Plasma's hidden stronghold, "Incompetent fools! Absolute, unmitigated buffoons!"
The news had reached him barely an hour ago, delivered by a trembling low-ranking grunt who had barely escaped the jurisdiction of the local constabulary.
Bronius—one of his trusted Seven Sages—had been hauled in like a common criminal, caught red-handed attempting to sweep away the humiliating failure of a botched Pokémon "liberation" kidnapping in Castelia City.
If that disaster weren't enough to curdle his blood, the fiasco at Liberty Garden had finished the job. 3 days. 3 entire days his operatives had wasted trying to 'protect' the mythical Victini, only to be ambushed, outmaneuvered, and dragged away in heavy steel cuffs by the police.
And who had tipped off the authorities?
Who else but that wretched thorn in his side: Azure Sky.
*CRACK*
Ghetsis slammed his fist down onto a heavy mahogany writing desk, the timber groaning in protest. A deep fissure split the wood right down its center. Ghetsis hissed, pronouncing the name as if it tasted of slow-acting poison, "Azure…"
Ever since that interloper had set foot in the Unova region, every grand speech, every carefully orchestrated public demonstration, and every ideological seed he had planted had been utterly trampled. Worse still, it was all documented. PokeTube had become Ghetsis's personal executioner.
Videos of his radical ideals being dissected, mocked, and dismantled on live broadcasts played on an endless, looping nightmare in the back of his mind. The public was laughing. They were mocking Team Plasma.
Worse yet, the recent arrest reports detailing his three grunts holding tourists hostage at Liberty Garden had painted his noble crusade in the light of common thuggery.
And the praise?
The endless, sickening praise sung across the region for Azure, alongside those two insufferable kids, Black and White...
Ghetsis's pale fingers curled into his palms so tightly that his knuckles turned translucent. His nails bit into his flesh, drawing tiny beads of crimson, though he felt no pain—only a searing, all-consuming wrath.
He knew the truth, however bitter it was.
He could not match Azure through conventional means. The boy was an anomaly, a terrifying powerhouse who moved with the eerie, calculated precision of a seasoned veteran, completely unfazed by the ideological weight of Team Plasma.
Ordinary grunts, ordinary plans, even his precious Seven Sages were nothing more than fragile glass against a hammer. Ghetsis reasoned, his delusion hardening into a desperate, jagged resolve, 'If I cannot beat him with words… then I will crush him with absolute might. Destroy him!!!'
His twisted worldview demanded hierarchy.
If Pokémon were to be liberated from foolish humans, it would only be because he—Ghetsis—commanded the absolute apex predators of the world. Only by gathering the strongest, most formidable creatures into absolute, unyielding obedience could he carve a path straight through Azure's infuriating defenses.
Ghetsis dragged in a ragged breath, his shoulders rising and falling as he forced his frantic pulse to slow. He unclenched his bleeding hand, wiping the crimson smear across the fabric of his dark cloak.

He walked over to a heavy brass bell resting upon a side pedestal and struck it once. The echoing chime had barely faded before the heavy oak doors creaked open just enough for Ryoku, one of the remaining Seven Sages, to slip into the chamber.
The rotund, bearded man bowed deeply, eyeing the shattered porcelain on the floor with visible apprehension. Ryoku asked in a respectful tone, his voice a cautious murmur, "You called, Ghetsis?"
Ghetsis commanded, his tone dropping into a dangerous, silken whisper with a stern expression, "Listen to me very carefully, Ryoku… You are to take a detachment of our elite shadow units and make your way immediately to the Relic Castle deep within the desert sands of Route 4."
Ryoku blinked, confused. He asked in a confused tone, "The Relic Castle, sir? For what purpose? Are we initiating a rally near Castelia?"
Ghetsis said in a cold tone, his eye narrowing, "No… We are going to 'protect' the Sun Pokémon. Volcarona rests within those ancient ruins. The ignorant masses and wandering trainers would only misuse its blinding, scorching power. Go under the guise of our usual philanthropic doctrine—preach to any wandering fools about the safety of Pokémon."
Ghetsis offered a twisted, sinister smirk that failed to reach his dead, cold eye. He said in a greedy tone, "But in reality... you will secure the Sun Pokémon for me. Bring it to my chambers. I need overwhelming power. Power great enough to wipe that pest Azure from this region once and for all."
Ryoku bowed lower, sensing the volatile storm brewing beneath his master's skin. He said in an obedient tone, "It shall be done, Ghetsis. Volcarona will be ours."
With a sweep of his robes, Ryoku turned and hurried out of the room, leaving Ghetsis alone once more amidst the wreckage of his shattered vase.

As the heavy doors clicked shut, a low, triumphant laugh bubbled up from Ghetsis's throat—a pathetic, manic sound that bounced off the cold stone walls. He was entirely unaware that he had not been entirely alone in the cavernous room.
High above, perched upon the ornate, carved stone corbel supporting the vaulted arches, a slender, green-and-cream serpentine body shifted silently. N's Snivy pulled herself back into the heavy drapery of a velvet tapestry, her emerald eyes wide with a mixture of shock, disgust, and profound unease.
She had come to the chamber to deliver a message from N—who had just spent the better part of the afternoon pulling strings and utilizing his peculiar influence to help spring Bronius from the local police station.
Snivy's leaf-shaped tail twitched nervously. She had watched N, her beloved friend and trainer, act with such conviction.
N genuinely believed in Team Plasma's cause. He truly thought they were fighting for the liberation of all Pokémon from the selfish whims of mankind. He was pure, innocent in his absolute dedication to the creatures he loved.
But what she had just heard... it made her stomach turn. She couldn't help but think of the words lingering in her head: '...secure the Sun Pokémon for me... I need overwhelming power to wipe that pest, Azure...'
Ghetsis didn't care about liberation. He didn't care about the feelings of Pokémon, or their bonds, or their freedom. It was all a grand, manipulative lie. A tool to hoard power. Ghetsis was a tyrant wrapped in the robes of a savior, using N's genuine empathy as a shield while he plotted absolute dominance.
*Shiver*
Snivy felt a cold shiver run down her spine. If N found out—no, when N found out, it would break his gentle, idealistic heart. But right now, N was blinded by his absolute trust in the man who had raised him.

Snivy thought, her heart hammering against her ribs like the frantic wings of a trapped Pidove, 'I can't stay here. I can't be part of this lie any longer.'
Without making a single sound, she slithered backward along the stone ledge, slipping through a cracked stained-glass window that opened to the cool, windswept night air of the Unova wilderness. She dropped silently down to the thick canopy of trees surrounding the castle grounds, her mind made up.
She wasn't going to tell N—not yet.
He wouldn't believe her; his loyalty to Ghetsis ran too deep. But she knew one thing with absolute certainty: she was walking away from Team Plasma forever.
She just knew that Trainer would help her but didn't abandon N yet. And as she darted into the dense undergrowth, heading south toward the lights of civilization, she needed some time to think things over…

The sun over the Unova Region was a pale, sickly disc, obscured by the churning, golden-brown haze of Route 4. Between Castelia City and Nimbasa City lay a wasteland of shifting dunes and relentless wind—a place where the line between the sky and the earth blurred into a singular, abrasive grit.

The wind howled, carrying with it the stinging bite of a billion microscopic needles. Black, his signature red-and-black cap pulled low, was practically doubled over, his eyes squeezed shut. He yelled over the gale, his voice muffled by the scarf wrapped around his face, "I… I think I just swallowed a pound of Unova!"
White, clutching the hem of her jacket to keep the sand from invading her clothes, looked equally miserable. She exclaimed, "Azure! How are you still standing upright? My hair is going to be a bird's nest for a month!"
Azure, the eldest of the trio, didn't look bothered. He stood tall, his Arc Phone humming softly in his pocket, while an invisible Meloetta hovered near his ear, whispering telepathically. Meloetta's voice was melodic but laced with her trademark tsundere edge: 'Honestly, looking at them struggle is almost entertaining, isn't it? Not that I care if they get buried in sand or anything... hmph!'
Azure chuckled softly, then reached for a Luxury Ball at his belt. He said casually with a grin, "Don't worry, I've got just the thing. Rotom warned me about the shift in weather patterns this morning."
Rotom chirped from within the Arc Phone, "Zzt-zzt! Atmospheric pressure dropping! Sand density: 88%! It's a mess out there, Azure! Zzt!"
Azure called out, tossing the ball, "Go, Tyranitar!"

The heavy Pokémon materialized with a thundering THUD that shook the dunes. The massive, green-armored beast let out a guttural roar, "ROOOOOOAAAAR!"
And immediately, the air around them began to ripple. Tyranitar's Sand Stream ability didn't just add to the storm; it commanded it. With a flex of its powerful muscles, the Pokémon forced the chaotic winds to swirl in a controlled radius around the group, pushing the external, blinding storm away and creating a pocket of relative calm.
Black breathed, standing up straight for the first time in an hour, and muttered, "Whoa... He just... moved the storm."
White sighed in relief, dusting off her shorts. She thanked him in a thankful tone with a grin, "Thanks, Azure. I don't think my Agency's budget covers 'Death by Dehydration' for its president."
Azure nodded, his eyes scanning the horizon where the skeletons of unfinished buildings rose like jagged teeth from the sand. He said casually, "Rotom was right to suggest the goggles and gear we picked up in Castelia. Always listen to the tech, guys. Besides, I had my guy brought back from Kanto to safely travel through the desert."
White gestured toward a silhouette in the distance—a construction worker trudging through the dunes with a Machoke. She said in a curious tone, "Even the professionals look like they're having a hard time. Why are we heading toward the ruins again? I thought we were going to Nimbasa."
Azure corrected, his voice calm with his Tyranitar near him, "The Desert Resort. And tucked inside it is the Relic Castle. My sources tell me a wild Volcarona is living deep within its lower chambers."
Black's eyes practically turned into stars. He exclaimed excitedly, "Volcarona?! You mean the Sun Pokémon? That's Alder's ace! If I could catch one of those... man, my path to the Champion title would be a straight shot!"
White added, her eyes narrowing as she mentally calculated, "And from a business perspective, a Volcarona headlining a BW Agency Musical would be the spectacle of the century. We'd be booked for years! Nimbasa City is the heart of entertainment; if we arrive with a legendary-tier Pokémon like that, we'll own the city before we even check into a hotel."
She paused, looking at Azure suspiciously. She asked suspiciously, "But... Azure, how do you always know exactly where these rare Pokémon are? You've known about every hidden grotto and secret nest since we left Accumula Town."
Azure leaned back, a teasing smirk playing on his lips. He tapped his Arc Phone, confessing, "I've told you. I have Celebi on speed dial. I just ask her to peek into the future and tell me who's hiding where."
Black scoffed, crossing his arms as he exclaimed, "That's totally cheating! Where's the mystery? Where's the adventure?! I CALL HACKS?!!"
Zorua's voice drifted into everyone's mind; the fox Pokémon, currently invisible and nestled in the shadows of Azure's shadow, mentally said, 'He's lying, you know. You just like seeing the looks on their faces when you act like a god.'
Azure ignored the fox. He replied in a smug tone with a trollish expression, "I don't ask Celebi all the time, Black. I like the hunt as much as you do. But in this case, I have a specific reason for wanting to visit the Relic Castle. Let's just say I'm 'future-sniping' a potential bad guy partner. There's someone who eventually tries to claim that Volcarona for some very dark purposes. I figure, why let a villain have it when a loudmouthed, hot-blooded kid like you could give it a good home?"
Black's grin widened, completely swayed by Azure's words. He agreed with him instantly, saying, "I like the way you think! Free game, right? Let's go!"
Azure chuckled as White sighed at this. While they moved, Azure checked his team's status screen, observing his team's strength.
