He took a deep breath, letting the moment sink in, then exhaled slowly. He clicked the Poké Ball, feeling the warmth of the life inside. He whispered to himself, "This is the end. I'm trusting you to win this."

Azure shouted over the roar of Infernape's flames, "We're not just going to win, Cynthia. We're going to burn this battlefield down!"
The Flame Pokémon stood ready, its fiery crown burning with determination. Its intelligent eyes met Azure's, a silent promise exchanged between them.

Infernape met the incoming attack head-on, "INFERAPPPE!!"

Infernape, already moving, gathered a ball of pure aura energy in its hands. Instead of a direct blast, it threw the sphere with a peculiar, twisting motion, its agility making the attack unpredictable. The Aura Sphere weaved through the air, curving and arcing like a homing missile.

At the same time, the remaining Draco Meteors crashed down around Infernape, engulfing it in their explosive range. Both Pokémon took heavy, punishing damage. A thick curtain of smoke billowed outwards, obscuring them completely.
A tense silence descended upon the arena, broken only by the crackle of residual energy. As the smoke slowly, agonizingly, began to clear, two silhouetted figures emerged. They stood perfectly still, locked in a brutal standoff.
*Trmbl*
Then, with a tremor that shook its entire body, Mega Garchomp stumbled. It swayed precariously, its powerful legs threatening to give out, but somehow, it remained conscious, a growl of defiance rumbling deep in its throat.
Infernape, however, couldn't match its opponent's resilience. Its flames flickered dangerously low, its body scorched and bruised. With a pained groan, it dropped to one knee, its face etched with agony.
Cynthia, ever the opportunist, saw her chance. She roared, her voice laced with urgency, "Garchomp, Dragon Claw once more!"

They stood, both barely on their feet, swaying like trees in a hurricane, but still unbroken. Their spirits were unyielding to fall, as they both thought, 'Not… yet… not till… that damn Monkey/Dragon is down…'
Cynthia ordered, her voice sharp with renewed hope, "Garchomp, Rest!"

Garchomp's eyes closed, its body enveloped in a soft, green glow. The multiple burns and wounds on its scales began to recede, its labored breathing evening out. Then with a snap of Cynthia's fingers...

In a matter of seconds, by command, Garchomp awoke, fully restored, its stamina replenished, its burns miraculously gone!
Azure's heart sank as he thought worriedly, 'Rest?! That's a nightmare. It's fully healed! And only woke up!'
He knew he needed to match it. He ordered, "Infernape, Slack Off!"
Infernape, still struggling but resolute, took a deep breath. A wave of exhaustion washed over it, but also a surge of restorative energy. Its body glowed faintly, wounds knitting, stamina returning, though not to the extent of Rest.
Azure thought, a desperate plan forming in his mind, 'We need to hit it again, hard, before it recovers completely from the Giga Impact cooldown… and if we can, inflict a status effect. It'll put us ahead.'
Azure ordered, "Infernape, Will-O-Wisp! Burn it while we have the chance!"

Infernape, its flames burning a little stronger, opened its mouth, gathering a ball of eerie, blue-green fire. It launched a Will-O-Wisp towards Garchomp. But Garchomp had just woken from its Rest. Its eyes snapped open, blazing with primal fury. Cynthia, seeing the attack, didn't even need to command.
Garchomp reacted on instinct.
It let out an enraged roar, its body enveloped in a crimson aura, "GAROOOOAR! (Nah! I'd win this monkey!!)."

Cynthia's breathing was heavy, but a triumphant smile began to form on her lips stated, "It's over, Azure. Infernape is finished."
Yet, even as the words left her mouth, a flicker of doubt, a primal instinct, nagged at her. Her gaze sharpened, searching, sensing as she thought cautiously, 'No… my gut feeling… the fight isn't over yet.'
And she was proven right.

Garchomp, seeing its opportunity, immediately jumped forward, hoping to close the distance. Infernape laughed, backing away, having the time of its life, "Infernape!! Apeapapapa!! (Hahahaha! Let's dance, dragon!!)."
The battle raged across the room.
The polished black floor was marred with scorch marks and cracks.

And then, Infernape's Strong Style Sacred Fire, a maelstrom of rainbow intensity, crashed into Garchomp. A blinding explosion of fire and dragon energy erupted, streaming upwards, illuminating the entire Champion's Room in a kaleidoscope of raw power.
Azure could see Infernape, through sheer force of will, pushing further, grinding its fiery fist deeper into Garchomp's form, trying to end the battle.
Then, there was a delayed reaction. Mega Garchomp, even amidst the explosion, momentarily held its ground. But the explosive force of Infernape's Strong Style Sacred Fire was too immense, too concentrated. With a final, pained shriek, Garchomp buckled.
A thick blanket of smoke billowed upwards, engulfing the entire arena. The roar of the Sacred Fire slowly subsided, replaced by a tense, ringing silence.
Azure stood, chest heaving, his eyes fixed on the dissipating smoke. Cynthia, equally breathless, leaned forward, her face a mask of suspense.
Slowly, the smoke began to clear…

And there, standing amidst the fading embers, was Mega Garchomp.
Perfectly still.

Azure's heart hammered against his ribs as he thought, 'No… it can't be…'
The artificial sun of Sunny Day, which had cleared the sandstorm, flickered once, then vanished, plunging the room into a dimmer light…
*Shiiii*
And then, Garchomp's Mega Evolution energy shimmered, and its form began to shrink, reverting to its normal state. The mighty Garchomp swayed. Its head lolled to the side. Its eyes, which had burned with so much fire, glazed over.
And then, with a final, shuddering breath, Garchomp collapsed, "Garrr… (Damn… it… But good… fight Monkey…)"
*THUD-CRACK*
It hit the ground, unconscious. The silence that followed was absolute.
Azure stared. His Infernape stood, still radiating residual heat, its flames flickering, battered but victorious.
Then, the realization dawned.
He had won.
A slow, triumphant smile spread across Azure's face. He looked at Infernape, who met his gaze, then collapsed onto its knees, completely spent but beaming with pride.
Azure whispered, his voice thick with emotion, "You did it, Infernape! You did it. You managed to beat Cynthia's Ace!"
A wave of relief, exhilaration, and profound gratitude washed over him. He had faced the best and emerged victorious. The journey, the hard-fought battles, the impossible odds—all of it had culminated in this single, intensely dramatic moment.
Cynthia stood over her fallen partner for a long moment. She then knelt, whispering something softly to Garchomp as she returned it to its ball. When she stood up and walked toward Azure, she wasn't smiling a Champion's smile. She was smiling, a woman who had finally found what she had been looking for.
Cynthia said calmly, extending her hand, "History is written by the victors. Today, Azure, you didn't just win a battle. You changed the myth."
Azure took her hand and pulled himself up. He looked at his Infernape, then at the Hall of Fame elevator behind her. Azure said, his voice finally steady, "We didn't change the myth, Cynthia. We just started a new one."
With that, they both headed to the Hall of Fame.
