Chapter 512 - Chapter 512: Celestic Town

Chapter 512: Celestic Town

~Third POV~

[Sinnoh Region, Later, Route 210]

*Thwack-thwack-thwack*

The Mach Bike hummed, a mechanical counterpoint to the powerful strides of Garchomp across the Route 210 path. Behind Cynthia, perched precariously on Garchomp's back, Diamond gripped the pseudo-dragon's scales with white knuckles, a silent prayer escaping his lips with every lurch.

His stomach, usually a bottomless pit of contentment, churned with a mixture of terror and the lingering aftertaste of lunch. Dia whined, his voice barely audible over the wind rushing past their ears, "Are we there yet?"

Just ahead, Cynthia, a blur of motion on her bicycle, leaned into a turn with an effortless grace that belied the speed. Her champion Garchomp, a magnificent beast of power and speed, matched her pace with a casual disregard for the laws of physics.

They were in sync, a perfect tandem of trainer and Pokémon.

Beside Cynthia, Azure, his own Mach Bike, a sleek silver streak, pushed himself to the limit. His Pikachu, a bright spark of yellow on his shoulder, let out small, excited cries, "Pika-pika! (Come on! Go faster!)"

Meanwhile, Eevee, nestled securely on his head, kept her ears flattened against the wind, eyes wide with exhilaration. Azure's face, usually calm and composed, was taut with concentration, a slight grin playing on his lips.

This was a challenge he relished. He had raced powerful Pokémon before, but racing against Cynthia and her Garchomp was a different beast altogether.

With a final burst of speed, Cynthia braked smoothly near a fork in the path. Azure skidded to a stop right beside her, his breath coming in short, sharp gasps, a bead of sweat tracing a line down his temple.

Azure managed to pant out, a competitive glint in his eyes, "Looks like… a tie."

Cynthia merely chuckled, her golden hair shimmering in the afternoon light, "A very close one, Azure. Impressive."

She dismounted, her movements fluid and unhurried. Diamond, on the other hand, practically tumbled off Garchomp's back, landing with a soft oof in the grass. He lay there for a moment, spread-eagled, taking deep, shaky breaths.

He mumbled, a wave of relief washing over him, "Finally… it's over…"

Pearl, however, landed gracefully beside him, his eyes sparkling with a newfound admiration. He exclaimed, looking from Cynthia to her Garchomp, then to Azure, "Whoa… that was incredible! Both of you! Such speed, such control!"

Cynthia smiled with a soft, almost wistful expression as she explained, "I've always wanted to ride a bike like that. Ever since I was a little girl, seeing trainers zoom past on their journeys… I felt like I grew up too fast, always focused on training, on battling. Sometimes, it's nice to just feel the wind without the pressure of a match."

She patted her bicycle fondly, adding, "That's why I didn't ride Garchomp this time. It felt… liberating."

Azure nodded, wiping his brow, and responded casually, "I get it. There's a different kind of freedom in propelling yourself forward."

His Eevee chirped in agreement, and Pikachu nodded vigorously on his shoulder, "Evoi! (You can say that again!)."

Platinum, having dismounted Garchomp with a bit more decorum than Diamond, adjusted her hat. Platinum stated fondly, "It was quite the experience, Champion Cynthia. Though I admit, I prefer a more… sedate pace for appreciating the scenery."

Cynthia's gaze sharpened, her expression turning professional as she produced a coiled hose and a sizable tank from her bicycle's side pannier as she said, "Alright, everyone. Time to deal with our problem."

She held up a clear vial, filled with a viscous, shimmering liquid as she explained, "This is a Secret Potion. Mr. Backlot requested my assistance because of the Psyduck swarm."

"Oof-ooof-oooofs…"

A low groan, a chorus of oof-oof-oofs, drifted from further down the path, accompanied by the distinct sound of hands pressing against temples. Cynthia stated, her voice calm but resolute, "There they are."

The group advanced cautiously, stepping around the scattered rocks and patches of tall grass. Soon, a large gathering of Psyduck came into view, their yellow bodies huddled together, eyes squeezed shut in discomfort. Each one cradled its head, clearly suffering from a terrible migraine.

One Psyduck groaned, its bill trembling, "Oof! Psyyyyeiii… (My head… it feels like it's going to… explode!)"

Cried another, wobbling precariously, "Oof! Duck! (Another wave!)"

A wave of sympathy washed over Platinum as she muttered, "Oh, those poor creatures! What could be causing such distress?"

Cynthia replied, her brow furrowed with concern, "That's precisely what we don't know. But their pain is clear. And it's blocking the path to Celestic Town. People need to move freely, and these Pokémon need relief."

*Click*

She attached the hose to the tank, securing it with a faint click, explaining, "This Secret Potion, developed by a very particular herbalist, is known to calm intense headaches and soothe mental distress. We'll spray it gently and see if it helps."

*Splash*

With practiced ease, Cynthia began to spray the misty potion over the huddled Psyduck. A fine, glittering spray descended upon them, catching the light like tiny jewels. As the potion made contact, a collective sigh rippled through the Psyduck population.

Their groans softened, their hands slowly lowered from their heads, and their eyes, though still a little dazed, began to open. A serene calm settled over the Pokémon. One by one, they stretched, shook their heads gently, and then, as if an invisible barrier had been lifted, they began to waddle off the path, creating a clear thoroughfare.

Diamond exclaimed, his earlier fear of racing forgotten as he watched the Psyduck disperse, "It's working!"

Pearl added, impressed, "Amazing! They look so much better."

Cynthia scanned the area, her eyes searching as she muttered, "There was one particular Psyduck reported missing, distinct for its curly hair… Ah, there!"

Her gaze landed on a smaller Psyduck, whose normally straight hair tuft was indeed curly, waddling away from the main group. She knelt, offering a gentle hand. The curly-haired Psyduck looked up, its headache visibly lessened, and nuzzled into her palm.

However, as Cynthia stood back up, her expression darkened. A grim line formed on her lips. She murmured, more to herself than to the others, "This isn't natural… Psyduck rarely gather in such large, distressed groups without a cause. And this Psyduck… it belongs to a Trainer and yet was directed here. Someone sent them to block this path."

Her eyes narrowed, the unspoken implication hanging heavy in the air. Pearl, oblivious to Cynthia's sudden shift in mood, clapped his hands together and stated, "Well, at least now no one else will be bothered! We can take this path right to Mt. Coronet, and the people from Celestic Town will be pleased that the path is clear again!"

Cynthia nodded slowly, her gaze drifting towards a rustic, inviting wooden building nestled amongst the trees further down the road as she said, "Indeed. I suspect my grandmother will be quite pleased. She's rather fond of the Moo Moo Milk served at the Café Cabin there."

She pointed a slender finger towards the establishment, adding, "She usually stops by on her way back home."

"Ding-a-ling!"

Just then, a warm, melodic voice, accompanied by a gentle ding-a-ling sound, drifted from the direction of the Café Cabin, "That she is, Cynthia dear! And I'm right here!"

Cynthia's eyes widened in surprise, a genuine smile replacing her grim expression, and she exclaimed, "Grandmother!"

An elderly woman, with kind eyes and a cascade of silver hair, emerged from the Café Cabin, with her a small, bell-like Pokémon, a Chingling, floating serenely beside her. She carried a steaming mug, steam curling invitingly into the crisp air as she muttered, "It's been ages since I've been stuck, you know. These Psyduck, bless their hearts, were quite the inconvenience for a milk run."

Cynthia hurried forward, embracing her grandmother warmly, and responded, "I'm so glad you're alright! We were just discussing you."

The grandmother chuckled, her eyes twinkling as she regarded the young trainers, "And a fine discussion it was, I'm sure… But enough about my milk cravings. While these fine young people are here, Cynthia, perhaps we can indulge them in a tale or two? About our beautiful Sinnoh, and its mysterious lakes?"

But when her eyes finally landed on Azure, her expression soured instantly. She said, her voice like grinding stone, "You…!!!"

Azure offered a casual, two-finger salute as he greeted her, "Elder. Good to see you're still in high spirits."

She stepped closer, poking a finger toward Azure's chest as she exclaimed, "High spirits? Hmph. I haven't forgotten, boy. The Tenth Pokémon League. You, an outsider, wielding the sacred art of the Draco Meteor as if it were a common Tackle. And you didn't even use the proper ritual! My family has spent generations perfecting the summoning of the sky's wrath, and you... You just called them."

Azure shrugged, his expression maddeningly relaxed as he replied, "Technically, I just trained the move. Besides, my Dragonite prefers the 'energy spheres' aesthetic over the traditional 'rain of fire' version. It's all about the flair, right?"

The Elder's face turned a shade red as she exclaimed, "Flair? FLAIR?!!! You snot-nose brat!! It is a heritage! And then there's the matter of the Green One. Rayquaza does not simply 'trust' people, let alone allow itself to be caught by a child who treats legends like house pets!"

Azure corrected mildly his expression sternly as he stated, "He's not a pet. He's my partner, where we stand as equals, as I earned his respect. Unlike the others before me, which were merely lesser to him, I can stand toe to toe with my Pokémon. That says a lot about my own worth than others before me, being Rayquaza's Partner."

The Grandmother let out a huff that could have powered a windmill, "Huff!! Insufferable brat!! Just like those rumored stories say!"

Azure, catching her critical gaze, merely offered a casual, almost dismissive shrug and a slight nod, his focus already elsewhere. Pikachu and Eevee twitched their ears, sensing the unspoken tension.

Cynthia's grandmother, sensing his nonchalance, let out a soft huff, a hint of frustration crossing her features before she quickly masked it. She eventually calmed herself down in front of the Trainers and Cynthia, who had an amused smirk.

The Sinnoh Dex Holders were wise not to question the Elder's tantrum, thinking, 'What kind of history did Azure have with Cynthia's Grandmother…?'

Platinum's aristocratic poise nearly slipped. Her eyes shone as she asked excitedly, "The lakes? Champion Cynthia mentioned them briefly when speaking of the region's history. Please, tell us more!"

Diamond, eager for any story that might distract him from the lingering memory of Garchomp's speed, piped up, "Yeah! What about the lakes? Are they full of delicious treats?"

Pearl hissed, smacking him lightly on the arm, "Quiet, Dia! Don't just butt in like that!"

He turned to Cynthia's grandmother, a mortified expression on his face as he quickly apologized, "Forgive him, ma'am. He still hasn't quite grasped the consequences of… well, butting in."

Pearl let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his hair. His Infernape, Chimlar, looked at Diamond with a sympathetic shrug.

The grandmother, however, simply laughed, a melodious sound like wind chimes, "Hahaha!! Oh, don't worry, dear boy. A little enthusiasm is quite charming. But yes, the lakes. A perfect topic for a warm drink, don't you think?"

She gestured towards the Café Cabin in a kind tone, "Please, make yourselves comfortable. My treat."

[Sinnoh Region, Route 210 – Café Cabin]

Soon, the group found themselves inside the cozy Café Cabin. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm Moo Moo Milk filled the air, mingling with the sweet scent of freshly baked pastries.

*Cackle*

A crackling fireplace cast a warm, dancing glow across the wooden tables and chairs. Cynthia and her grandmother sat together, conversing softly, Cynthia often deferring to her grandmother's wisdom with respectful nods.

Platinum, ever the scholar, listened intently, occasionally interjecting with a perceptive question about Sinnoh's folklore. Her Empoleon, having evolved from Prinplup during their journey, stood regally beside her, occasionally nudging her hand for attention.

Meanwhile, Diamond and Pearl, with their usual theatrical flair, decided to put on a spontaneous comedy show for Cynthia's grandmother. Azure stood on the side, enjoying their comedy with his Pikachu, Eevee, and Pichu (Mew).

Pearl announced, striking a pose, "Alright, Granny! Be prepared to have your funny bone tickled!"

Diamond added, already eyeing a plate of Berry tarts, "Or at least your taste buds, with all the delicious snacks here!"

Pearl rolled his eyes as he began their routine, "Focus, Dia! Remember our routine. Why did the Miltank cross the road?"

Diamond quipped, barely suppressing a giggle, "To get to the Moo Moo Milk bar!"

Pearl sighed for dramatic effect and replied, "Sigh… No, Dia, that's not it! It's… to get to the other side!"

*Ba-dum-tss*

Pearl mimed a cymbal crash, his Infernape, Chimlar, doing a little jig beside him. Diamond, not to be outdone, launched into an impression of a confused Psyduck, "Oof! My head… did someone say… cheesecake?"

He stumbled dramatically, feigning a headache, prompting a laugh from the patrons and even a small, amused cry from Azure's Pikachu, "Pika-pika! (Good one! Now do another one!!)"

The duo continued with a rapid-fire series of jokes and physical comedy, their energy infectious. Diamond's Tru, the Torterra, even let out a soft rumble, as if laughing along with them, while Pearl's Dragonair, Ryu, watched with an amused sway of her body.

Azure smiled, a genuine, easy smile that rarely made it past his usual stoicism. His Eevee purred softly on his head, enjoying the lighthearted banter.

*Clap*

Finished, breathless and beaming, Cynthia's grandmother clapped her hands together, a wide, genuine smile gracing her face as she said warmly, praising them, "Oh, you two are simply delightful! A true balm for the soul after dealing with those headaches. Such talent!"

Platinum, who had been enjoying the performance almost as much as her bodyguards, turned to them, continuing, "Diamond, Pearl, according to Champion Cynthia, the road ahead through Route 210 is known for its dense fog, making it quite dangerous to travel alone. Therefore, Champion Cynthia has graciously allowed her grandmother to accompany us to Celestic Town for added safety."

Cynthia's grandmother beamed. She asked curiously in a chipper tone, "Yes, it will be lovely to have company! But before we brave the mist, how about just one more round of your splendid comedy?"

Diamond and Pearl, elated by the praise, exchanged a triumphant glance. They chorused, launching into another round of their routine, much to the amusement of the others, "You got it, Granny!"

After another hearty dose of laughter, Cynthia stood, signaling the end of their brief respite as she stated, "I must return the curly-haired Psyduck to its trainer at Amity Square and report back to Mr. Backlot about the situation. Grandmother, I'll leave Garchomp with you for added security through the fog. She knows the route and will protect you all."

Garchomp, a towering presence even when resting, let out a deep, reassuring growl, nuzzling its head against Cynthia's hand, "Graooo!"

The grandmother demurred, though her eyes held a grateful glint, "Oh, you needn't worry about me, dear. But I do appreciate the company of such a magnificent Pokémon."

The group thanked Cynthia for her help and hospitality. With a final wave, the Champion mounted her bicycle and pedaled off, disappearing back down the cleared path.

Cynthia's grandmother announced, her voice filled with a cheerful determination, "Alright, everyone. Time to face the fog!"

/////

[Sinnoh Region, Route 210 (Northern Area)]

Stepping out of the warm Café Cabin, they were immediately enveloped by a thick, swirling mist. The cheerful sunlight of earlier had vanished, replaced by a pervasive dampness that clung to their clothing and obscured their vision. Azure's Pikachu and Eevee immediately became more alert, their ears twitching, sensing the change in atmosphere.

Azure himself pulled his jacket tighter, his gaze scanning the swirling veil. The path, once clear, now seemed to stretch into an endless expanse of gray. The sounds of distant Pokémon were muffled, twisted by the dense air. Garchomp, a silent, imposing guardian, walked at the head of their small procession, its keen senses guiding it.

"Ding-a-Ling…"

Chingling, the grandmother's Pokémon, floated just beside her, its soft, ethereal ding-a-ling chiming intermittently, a comforting sound in the oppressive silence. Platinum observed, her voice hushed, "The fog gradually thickens, doesn't it?"

Her Empoleon remained close, its strong body a comforting presence. Pearl's Infernape and Diamond's Torterra walked diligently beside their trainers, their eyes scanning the obscured surroundings.

Indeed, the mist grew denser with every step, swallowing the landscape whole. Soon, Cynthia's grandmother and her Chingling, even Garchomp, became mere indistinct shapes, their forms blurring at the edge of their vision.

The grandmother's voice floated through the mist, surprisingly clear, "Don't worry, children. Just follow the sound of my Chingling. Its chimes will guide us."

"Ding-a-ling… ding-a-ling…"

The gentle melody became their beacon, a fragile thread in the impenetrable gray. Dia, trying to lighten the mood, started humming a jaunty tune, but his voice was swallowed by the fog. Pearl, ever cautious, kept his eyes glued to the barely visible path ahead.

Cynthia's grandmother, a formidable woman with a presence that commanded the very air around her, led the way. Every so often, the older woman would cast a sharp, lingering glance back at Azure.

Her eyes were narrowed, reflecting a deep-seated scholarly frustration. She still remembered the tenth Pokémon League Tournament—the way Azure's Dragonite had rained ethereal, energy-based meteors from the heavens, a technique she considered exclusive to the masters of the Draco Meteor.

To her, Azure was an enigma—an outsider who had somehow walked the path of a Dragon Master without paying the proper tithes of tradition. She remarked, her voice cutting through the fog, "You walk with the silence of a tomb, boy. Tell me, do you ever intend to show proper respect for the ancient arts you claim to have 'taught yourself'?"

Azure didn't flinch. He simply shrugged, his expression casual, almost infuriatingly so, as he said casually, "Art is intent, ma'am. My Dragonite likes to improvise. Why limit the sky to just one type of meteor?"

She let out a sharp, indignant huff, turning back toward the path, "Huff! Absurd."

*CRUNCH*

Suddenly, the sound of crumbling earth echoed sharply, followed by a startled yelp, "What the-Whoa—!"

Pearl, lost in thought and perhaps a little too focused on the Chingling's chime, had inadvertently stepped too close to the edge of the path. The ground gave way beneath him, and he tumbled sideways.

Diamond cried out, "Pearl!"

*POP*

Before anyone could react, a flash of sapphire blue erupted from Pearl's Poké Ball. His Dragonair, Ryu, a graceful serpent-like Pokémon of immense strength, coiled swiftly, her body extending like a living rope.

*Woooosh-thud*

With a powerful twist, she caught Pearl mid-fall, her strong body wrapping around him and safely pulling him back onto the path with a soft thud. Pearl landed with a relieved gasp, brushing himself off as he thanked her, "Thanks, Ryu! You're a lifesaver!"

Ryu nudged him affectionately with her head, her red pearls glowing softly in the mist. Diamond, ever the comedian, clapped Pearl on the back and joked, "Looks like you almost made a pearl-ilous mistake, huh?"

He burst into a fit of giggles, "Hehe! Good one, Dia!"

Cynthia's grandmother, who had paused, her hand to her chest, let out a hearty laugh, "Hahaha! Oh, you two! Always finding humor in peril! But you're right, my dear, this fog is no laughing matter."

Her voice grew a little more serious as she said, "It not only clouds the road we're walking on, but it often blankets the entire region. Mt. Coronet, the very peak we seek, and even the three great lakes… they too are shrouded in its mystery."

Platinum's eyes widened as she asked excitedly, "The three lakes… Lake Verity, Lake Acuity, and Lake Valor?"

The grandmother affirmed, her voice taking on a storytelling cadence, "Precisely. In Celestic Town, where we are headed, there is an ancient legend. It speaks of three Pokémon, beings of immense power and wisdom, who reside within those lakes. One, in Lake Verity, represents Emotion. Another, in Lake Valor, embodies Willpower. And the third, in Lake Acuity, is the very essence of Knowledge."

She paused, her eyes seeming to pierce through the thick fog, "They are the guardians of Sinnoh's spirit."

*Woooosh*

As if on cue, a sudden, dramatic shift occurred. The dense, suffocating fog, which had cloaked them for so long, began to thin. Wisps of gray lifted and swirled away, revealing patches of blue sky above…

/////

[Sinnoh Region, Celestic Town]

The world, previously muted and indistinct, burst into clearer focus. Diamond exclaimed, pointing ahead, "Look!"

Before them, nestled in a natural basin surrounded by rolling hills, lay Celestic Town. It was a quaint, picturesque village, a tapestry of small, wooden cottages with steeply pitched roofs, their windows glowing warmly with interior lights. A narrow, cobbled road wound through the town, leading to a central square.

Cynthia's grandmother announced fondly, a gentle smile on her face, "We've arrived. Celestic Town."

Her gaze then drifted to a prominent feature near the town center: a large cave entrance carved into the face of a cliff. Beside it stood a small, weathered shrine, its ancient stones whispering tales of bygone eras. The cave entrance itself was merely a small, dark hole, an indentation in the rock, seemingly too small for even a child to enter.

She said knowingly, pointing a gnarled finger, "And there is the shrine, and the cave markings. Ancient symbols that hold the secrets of our world. Though, as you can see, the entrance is far too small for anyone to really explore."

*Rmbl*

Suddenly, Garchomp, which had been stoically leading the way, let out a low, guttural growl, "Graoooo… (Who's here!!!)"

Its fins flared, and its mighty body tensed, its eyes fixed on something unseen by the others. A low huff-huff escaped its nostrils, its focus unwavering, "Huff-huff… GRAOOO! (Come out invader!!!)"

Diamond questioned, noticing the powerful Pokémon's agitation, "Garchomp?"

Granny's eyes narrowed, a flicker of concern crossing her normally serene face, muttering, "My word… something is wrong. Garchomp is truly angry. It senses something."

Platinum, ever observant, followed Garchomp's gaze. It seemed to be fixed on the small cave entrance. She whispered, pointing, "Look! Small statues… they resemble Nosepass. Are they… going into the cave?"

*Swooosh*

Indeed, several small, blocky, Nosepass-like Pokémon, their large, magnetic noses pointing north, slowly waddled towards the tiny opening, their forms disappearing one by one into the darkness.

Garchomp's head snapped up, its fierce eyes fixing on a nearby house, a more modern structure compared to the rustic cottages surrounding it. A figure emerged onto the porch, a man with sharp, intelligent eyes and an air of detached authority. He wore a crisp, dark uniform, and his posture was rigid, almost unnaturally so.

The man mused, his voice smooth and cold, "Remarkable. That Garchomp truly belongs to a strong trainer. To still exhibit such vigilance, such loyalty, even when its Champion is not present… it truly is capable of sensing its enemies."

His gaze, devoid of warmth, swept over the group, lingering for a fraction of a second on Azure. Azure's posture stiffened immediately. His relaxed smile vanished, replaced by an expression of grim recognition.

On his shoulder, Pikachu's cheeks sparked with static, letting out a low, warning growl, "Pika… (Oh, it's this guy…)."

Eevee on his head flattened her ears, her tail twitching nervously, her eyes narrowed. The air around Azure seemed to crackle with an unspoken tension, a stark contrast to the earlier joviality. Azure thought, his voice barely a whisper, yet laced with a dangerous edge, 'Cyrus… I suppose it's time we met…'

His eyes, usually bright with curiosity or warmth, hardened like chips of obsidian, finally meeting the gaze of the calculating man on the porch.

The leader of Team Galactic. The enemy.
