Chapter 488 - Chapter 488: Triple Evolutions!

Chapter 488: Triple Evolutions!

~Third POV~

[Sinnoh Region, 3 Days Later, Veilstone City – Grand Veilstone Hotel]

The morning sun over Veilstone City didn't rise so much as it bled over the jagged, meteor-scarred cliffs that gave the city its name. The air was crisp, carrying the scent of ozone and the distant, rhythmic clack-clack-clack of jackhammers from the nearby Veilstone Department Store construction site.

Inside the gated confines of the Veilstone Grand Hotel's private battle court, the atmosphere was far more intense. Azure stood at the edge of the pristine battlefield, his arms crossed over his chest.

Inside his high-collared jacket, a small, pinkish tail flicked momentarily before being tucked back in. The Pichu (Mew) nestled against his chest, currently dozing in the warmth of its master's heartbeat. On his shoulders, his two oldest friends, Pikachu and Eevee, sat like watchful sentinels.

Azure asked, his voice calm but carrying an undeniable weight, "Is everyone finished with breakfast?"

Diamond, or 'Dia' as everyone called him, shoved the last quarter of a massive slowpoke-tail-shaped bun into his mouth, "One... gulp... second!"

His Munchlax, Lax, was doing the same thing right beside him. Pearl barked, his hands waving frantically in a classic manzai-style reprimand, "Dia! This is no time for gluttony! Azure took the time to set this up! Show some respect!"

Platinum Berlitz, the heiress to the most prestigious family in Sinnoh, stood between them. She was the picture of noble grace, clad in her travel silks, her eyes fixed on Azure with a mixture of reverence and scholarly curiosity.

To her, Azure wasn't just a bodyguard; he was a living encyclopedia of combat. Platinum said, nodding toward her team, "The preparation is complete, Azure. We are ready to begin the fourth day of our regimen."

Azure looked at the gathered Pokémon. It was an impressive sight for any trainer, but to a veteran like him, he saw the gaps—the unpolished edges. Azure mused, walking toward the center of the court, "Three days… In three days, my Elekid and Magby evolved into Electabuzz and Magmar. My Sinnoh team is hardening. But you three..."

He glanced at Platinum's Prinplup, Pearl's Monferno, and Dia's Grotle as he continued, "You're hovering at the threshold. So today's training is going to be different from usual. It's designed to push you beyond what you think are your limits, a true test of spirit and strength."

Diamond tilted his head, a half-eaten Poffin pausing midway to his mouth, "A true test? What kind of test, Azure?"

Pearl, ever-impatient, bounced on the balls of his feet, exclaimed, "Spit it out! We're ready for anything!"

Platinum, ever analytical, adjusted her spectacles and asked, "Elaborate, please."

Azure's gaze swept over the eager faces of the three Dex Holders and their Pokémon, then to his own Sinnoh team, gathered expectantly as he explained, "Today, all of your Pokémon, including mine, will face a combined challenge."

He paused for dramatic effect, then gestured to four figures already positioned at the far end of the court as he continued, "You'll all be battling against Arcanine, Scizor, Dragonite, and my partner, Pikachu."

A collective gasp rippled through the group. Pearl's jaw dropped as he muttered, "All of them? Against those four?"

Diamond nearly choked on his Poffin as he asked in a baffled tone, "Azure, that's… that's completely unfair!"

Platinum, usually composed, looked genuinely concerned as she added, "Azure, while I appreciate a challenging exercise, the numerical disadvantage for your opponents is significant, even considering the caliber of those four Pokémon."

Azure merely smirked, seeing their naivety, as he continued, "Precisely. Your objective isn't just to win; it's to overcome overwhelming odds. It's about finding that inner spark, that hidden strength, when everything seems stacked against you."

He then pointed to a serene Blissey standing by the sidelines, radiating a gentle aura as he added, "Blissey will be on standby for immediate healing, so don't hold back. This isn't about victory in the traditional sense, but about growth."

Among Azure's Sinnoh team, the newer captures like H-Liligant, Rotom, Froslass, and Scyther looked on with a mix of apprehension and awe. They hadn't seen the true extent of Azure's main team's power.

But Monferno, Lucario, Gallade, Togekiss, Rhyhorn, Gabite, Electabuzz, Magmar, Porygon-Z, and H-Alpha Zoroark, having been with Azure longer, understood. They knew how unfair this matchup truly was, how brutal this training would be.

Their bodies tensed, a silent resolve in their eyes. They had faced these titans before, albeit in less extreme circumstances, and knew the sheer power they wielded. Yet, they too were determined to try.

*CLAP*

Azure clapped his hands, a signal for the battle to begin, "Alright then! Let's see what you've got!"

The air crackled with anticipation, then exploded into a cacophony and motion as he yelled, "GO!"

Arcanine let out a powerful roar, its fiery mane blazing as it immediately charged forward, a blur of orange and white, "ROOOAARRR! (Try and survive, kiddies!)."

*CLANG*

*WHIZZ*

Scizor, its metallic body gleaming, darted into the air, wings beating with incredible speed as it cried out, "Sci… zor. (Do try to survive. Or at least be a decent warm-up.)"

Pikachu, a bolt of yellow lightning, zipped across the ground, sparks flying from its cheeks, "CHUUUUU! (Time to teach you the art of getting your butt kicked! Kanto Style!)"

*WOOSH*

Dragonite, a massive, yet surprisingly agile, figure, launched itself skyward, circling majestically, "Drooo… (Let's get this over with. I need my beauty sleep.)"

The fight, as Azure had called it, was less a battle and more a highly coordinated, relentless assault. It was a masterclass in synergy and overwhelming force.

Arcanine was a living wave of fire and brute strength. It moved with astonishing speed, its Extreme Speed hitting like a meteor.

*THWACK*

It slammed into Alpha Rhyhorn, its charge bypassing the rocky hide, sending the massive Pokémon skidding back. Before Rhyhorn could recover…

*POW*

*HISSSS*

Arcanine pivoted, unleashing a powerful Flare Blitz that engulfed Platinum's Ponyta, knocking it out in a dazzling explosion of heat. Platinum cried, "Ponyta, no!"

Scizor, meanwhile, was a deadly aerial precision machine. Its Bullet Punch was a blur of metallic fists, striking multiple targets with blinding speed.

*CLANG*

*CLANG*

*CLANG*

It moved almost faster than the eye could follow, intercepting attacks and delivering punishing blows. It weaved through a flurry of attacks from Pearl's Herc and Tru's Grotle, then…

*BAM*

… delivered a devastating X-Scissor to Azure's own Monferno, who barely managed to use Protect before the second hit connected, still reeling from the impact. Azure urged his own Pokémon, "Monferno, hang in there!"

Pikachu, Azure's partner, was a force of nature. It danced around the battlefield, a living current of electricity.

*ZAP*

*CRACKLE*

Its Volt Tackle slammed into Diamond's Sol, sending the Flareon tumbling. Before Sol could even hit the ground, Pikachu zipped away, reappearing behind Pearl's Rayler.

*THWUMPH*

A powerful Iron Tail sent the Luxray crashing down, the air filled with the scent of ozone. Pikachu didn't stop, unleashing a rapid-fire Electro Ball barrage that chased down Platinum's Swablu, forcing it to dodge frantically before a final, precise Thunderbolt arced and brought it down.

Platinum gasped, recalling her fainting Pokémon, "Swablu, return!"

But it was Dragonite that truly commanded the skies, an embodiment of a Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon. Its Dragon Claw ripped through defenses, its Hurricane whipped up gales that disoriented entire groups, and its Outrage was a terrifying, indiscriminate force of nature.

*WHOOSH*

*BANG*

It soared, then dove, its sheer size and power creating shockwaves. It effortlessly deflected a Moonblast from Diamond's Celeste with a swipe of its Steel Wings, then retaliated with a Dragon Rush that slammed into Azure's Gallade, the powerful Psychic-Fighting type barely able to register the attack before being thrown aside, unconscious.

Azure murmured, recalling the fainted Pokémon, "Gallade, impressive, but not enough. Gotta work on your weapon!"

The Sinnoh Dex Holders and Azure's Sinnoh team were utterly overwhelmed. Their attempts at coordination were haphazard against the seamless teamwork of Azure's four champions. They tried to gang up, but Arcanine would intercept, Scizor would counter, Pikachu would disrupt, and Dragonite would simply dominate.

*BLAST*

Electabuzz and Magmar, having just evolved yesterday, put up a valiant fight, combining a Thunderbolt and Flamethrower in a powerful combo. But Arcanine simply inhaled, then exhaled, creating a vacuum that pulled the attacks together, then dispersed them with a powerful Heat Wave, the resulting gust of fire and wind knocking both newly evolved Pokémon off their feet.

Platinum tried to rally her team as she gave them commands in a rushed tone, "Prinplup, use Bubble Beam on Arcanine! Alakazam, Psychic on Scizor! Lopunny, focus High Jump Kick on Pikachu!"

The commands were swift, but Azure's champions were swifter. Arcanine sidestepped Prinplup's bubbles, a grin on its face as it circled.

Scizor, before Alakazam could fully channel its Psychic energy, vanished with U-Turn, reappearing behind Lopunny and intercepting the High Jump Kick with its durable claw, then retaliating with a powerful Iron Head.

*CLANG*

*Thud*

Lopunny cried out, collapsing.

Diamond, seeing his Pokémon fall one by one, gritted his teeth as he barked commands quickly, "Lax, Body Slam on Pikachu! Tru, Razor Leaf on Dragonite! Sol, backup with Fire Spin!"

Lax lumbered forward, but Pikachu was too quick, dodging with a Quick Attack and then zapping Lax with a swift Thunder Punch that sent the Munchlax sprawling. Tru's Razor Leaf was a green blur, but Dragonite merely flapped its wings, creating a powerful draft that scattered the leaves harmlessly before unleashing a Dragon Breath that consumed Tru, leaving it gasping for air.

Pearl was furious, shouting encouragement, "Chimlar, Mach Punch on Scizor! Rayler, Spark! Herc, Brick Break!"

Chimlar, agile and determined, landed a hit on Scizor, but the metallic Pokémon merely recoiled, then countered with a double Bullet Punch that sent Chimlar flying. Rayler's Spark connected with Arcanine, but the Fire-type ace merely shook it off with a casual growl.

Herc's Brick Break shattered an air slash that Dragonite had summoned with Air Slash, but the Dragonite was already elsewhere, dropping from the sky with a controlled dive. One by one, the Pokémon fell.

Togekiss was silenced by a silent Extreme Speed from Dragonite, and Porygon-Z was disabled by a blinding Flash Cannon from Scizor. Alpha Gabite and Hisuian Alpha Zoroark put up a fierce fight, Zoroark a master of illusions and Gabite a powerful physical attacker, but Arcanine and Dragonite, working together, trapped them in a relentless barrage of Overheat and Dragon Pulse, eventually wearing them down.

Even Lucario, Azure's loyal companion, was pushed to its limits by a combination of Arcanine's speed and Dragonite's raw power, eventually succumbing to a powerful Thunder Punch from Pikachu. Soon, only a handful of Pokémon remained standing against the seemingly invincible quartet…

And then, it was just three.

Prinplup, panting but resolute, stood ready. Chimlar, bruised but fiery, clenched its tiny fists. Tru, swaying slightly, dug its roots firmly into the ground. All three of them were the starters of the Sinnoh Dex Holders, the Pokémon that had been with them from the very beginning of their journey.

Azure's Dragonite, its scales gleaming, descended slowly, landing a few feet away from the battered trio, a look of mild amusement in its large eyes. Arcanine, Scizor, and Pikachu withdrew slightly, their forms radiating unquestionable power, watching.

*Fwp*

Dragonite hovered above, her shadow engulfing the trio. Azure asked, his voice echoing in the sudden silence of the court, "Is this it? Your journey ends at the fourth gym because you couldn't handle a little pressure? The Berlitz family crest... the pride of the comedy duo... is this all it amounts to?"

Pearl hissed defiantly. He was shaking as he replied defiantly, "Shut up...! We're not... we're not done!"

Dia yelled, his usual lethargy replaced by a burning intensity, "Tru isn't done! He's just getting started!"

Platinum's voice rang out, clear and strong, "Prinplup, don't give up! You've come so far! Remember our goal, Prinplup!"

Diamond shouted, his calm demeanor replaced by genuine passion, "Tru, you can do it! Show them the strength of our bond! You're the strongest, Tru!"

Pearl's voice was hoarse, but filled with unwavering belief, "Chimlar, keep fighting! For us! For our journey! Let your spirit ignite!"

The words resonated deep within the three Pokémon…

*FLASH*

A faint glow began to flicker around Prinplup. Chimlar's flame flickered brighter, hotter. Tru's body began to tremble, not with fear, but with an immense, surging energy.

*WHOOSH*

A brilliant, pulsating white light erupted from Prinplup, wrapping around her in an ethereal cocoon. Her form stretched, grew more regal, her flippers broadening into sharp-edged wings, a trident-like crest appearing on her head, "PRINPLUPPPPPP!"

The light faded, revealing a majestic Empoleon, standing tall and proud, radiating an aura of dignified power, "EMPOLEON!"

*WHOOOOSH*

Simultaneously, Chimlar's body exploded with a fiery, golden light. Its form grew, muscular and agile, the flames on its tail and head becoming a vibrant crown of fire as he roared, "MOOOONFER…!"

Its nimble movements were now imbued with fierce strength. The light dissipated, revealing a blazing Infernape, ready to unleash a torrent of fiery punches, "INFERNAPE!"

*WHOOSH*

And Tru, with a mighty shake, was enveloped in a vibrant, verdant glow with a cry, "TRUUUUUUUU!"

Its shell expanded, becoming a massive, multi-tiered plateau, its head hardening, and a mighty tree sprouting from its back. The light receded, leaving behind a colossal Torterra, a living ecosystem, solid and unyielding, "TORTERRA!"

The evolutions were magnificent, a testament to the bond between trainer and Pokémon. The air thrummed with their newfound power. Azure watched, a genuine smile spreading across his face.

The Pichu (Mew) in his jacket stirred, letting out a soft, satisfied cry, "Pii-chu! (Oh, they finally evolved!)"

Platinum, Pearl, and Diamond commanded in unison, their voices filled with exhilaration as they tested out the move taught to them from Azure as they reached their last stage, "Now, Empoleon, Infernape, Torterra! UNLEASH YOUR ULTIMATE MOVES!"

Empoleon let out a resounding cry. Water gathered swiftly around it, forming a swirling, pressurized vortex, "EMPOL! EOOON!"

*WOOOSH*

*SPLASH*

The vortex condensed into a colossal, cannon-like blast of pure H2O. As Platinum called out, "HYDRO CANNON!"

Infernape, now a whirlwind of fire, roared defiantly. Its fists glowed crimson, and flames erupted from its entire body, coalescing into a sphere of pure, destructive heat, "INFERNAAAAPE!"

*FWOOOOOSHHH*

*BANG*

It unleashed a devastating inferno. Pearl yelled, "BLAST BURN!"

Torterra, grounding itself with raw power, channeled the energy of the earth beneath it. Vines and roots surged from the ground, converging into a massive, thorny, organic projectile, "TORTEEEERRRA!"

*CRUNCH*

*RUMBLE*

It launched the colossal attack with a mighty heave. Diamond commanded, "FRENZY PLANT!"

The three ultimate moves, each radiating immense power, converged. Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn, and Frenzy Plant streaked towards Azure's Dragonite, a combined assault of water, fire, and grass energy.

The air shimmered, vibrating with the force of their conviction. It was a scene straight out of a shonen anime – the heroes, pushed to their limits, evolving and combining their strongest attacks against an insurmountable foe.

Azure's smirk widened, a glint of amusement in his eyes. He watched the combined attack hurtle towards his Dragonite. He murmured, his voice barely audible, "A powerful display. Truly a magnificent moment, like a shonen power-up when they needed it most, like fantasy. A fantasy, in the end, however…"

Dragonite, seeing the incoming storm of power, let out a casual grunt. Its body glowed, not with raw elemental energy, but with a deep, contained power. Azure commanded, his voice calm, yet carrying an edge of absolute authority, "… against raw power, they could only do so much… Dragonite! Strong Style Hyper Beam!"

*WHOOOOM*

Dragonite's mouth opened, and a colossal, deep violet beam of energy erupted, not just powerful, but impossibly dense. It wasn't just a Hyper Beam; it was a Strong Style Hyper Beam, imbued with the focus and overwhelming force of a champion's ace.

*CRASH*

*BOOM*

*SHATTER*

The Strong Style Hyper Beam collided with the combined Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn, and Frenzy Plant. For a single, agonizing moment, the forces struggled against each other. Water hissed as it vaporized, flames roared and were instantly extinguished, and the massive plant matter splintered and disintegrated.

The sheer raw power of Dragonite's attack was utterly absolute. The trio's combined ultimate moves, despite their incredible force, were simply destroyed, obliterated by the overwhelming might of a true champion's ace.

*KABOOOOOM*

A final explosion of light and sound ripped through the air as Dragonite's Hyper Beam continued its trajectory, slamming directly into the newly evolved Empoleon, Infernape, and Torterra.

*THWACK*

*THUD*

*CRASH*

The three Pokémon, full of their newfound power, were instantly knocked out, collapsing onto the battle court with a final, defeated groan. A cloud of dust rose, then slowly settled. Platinum, Diamond, and Pearl all rushed forward, their hearts heavy but their eyes bright with pride.

"Empoleon!"

"Tru!"

"Chimlar!"

They recalled their champions, praising their efforts, their voices filled with adoration despite the unequivocal defeat. They sighed, a collective exhalation of awe and exhaustion. They had been destroyed in the training session.

But their Pokémon had grown, evolved into their final, powerful forms. That alone was a victory.

They looked back at Dragonite. Dragonite landed softly. She let out a long, loud yawn, stretched her neck, and promptly curled up into a ball, falling fast asleep on the shattered pavement.

In moments, it was sound asleep, a soft snore rumbling from its chest, as if the monumental clash had been nothing more than a mild exercise before a nap. Azure chuckled, a warm, genuine sound, "Exactly as I expected. Excellent work, everyone. That was an incredible showing of spirit and growth, especially from Empoleon, Infernape, and Torterra. You pushed yourselves beyond your limits, and that's what truly matters."

He gave Dragonite a gentle pat on its sleeping head as he added, "And Dragonite, as always, thanks for the demonstration."

He looked down at the unconscious starters, then at the stunned trainers. Pearl looked up, his face red as he argued, "Impressive? We got slaughtered! They evolved and used the strongest moves possible, and your Dragonite just... she just yawned!"

Azure said calmly, reaching down to help him up, "She's a veteran, Pearl. She's fought against Champions' aces. She's weathered attacks from Primal deities. Fought Legends till they were black and blue. You expect to bridge that gap in four days?"

He turned to Platinum, who was dusting off her skirt, her expression thoughtful. Azure continued, gesturing to the fainted Torterra, Empoleon, and Infernape, "But look at them. They didn't just evolve. They touched the ceiling of their potential. You forced a multi-league winning Dragonite to use a Strong Style move to defend herself. Do you have any idea how many 'Elite' trainers can't even do that?"

Platinum looked at her Empoleon as she muttered, "We lost... but we grew."

Azure said, "Exactly."

He pulled out a bag of Max Revives and handed them to Blissey, who began moving through the field with practiced efficiency as he continued, "The training is over. You have the raw power. For the next three days, I want you to rest. Bond with these new forms. Learn how they move, how they breathe. The Veilstone Gym won't stand a chance against this much raw potential."

Dia sat on the ground, leaning against his massive Torterra's leg. He asked curiously, "Hey, Azure?"

Azure replied, gazing at Diamond, "Yeah, Dia?"

Diamond asked as he rubbed Tru's head, "One day... will we be able to make your Dragonite do more than just yawn?"

Azure looked at his sleeping dragon, then back at the three teenagers who represented the future of the Sinnoh region. He felt a rare, genuine smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he replied honestly, "If you keep training like your lives depend on it? Yeah. Maybe one day, she'll actually have to take you seriously. But till then you have a lot of training to do to being able to catch up."

With a flick of his wrist, he recalled Arcanine, Scizor, and Dragonite. The three main team members returned to their Poké Balls for some well-deserved rest. Then, Azure gestured to Blissey, who, with her typical serene grace, began to approach the fainted and weary Pokémon as he said softly, "Blissey, if you please treat them."

The Sinnoh Dex Holders watched as Blissey began her gentle ministrations, a sigh escaping their lips. Just one of Azure's main team members, resting soundly after single-handedly overpowering a combined ultimate attack from three evolved starters and a dozen other strong Pokémon, was a stark reminder of the immense gap in power and experience between them and the Uncrowned Champion.

Azure looked up at the Veilstone sky, the blue beginning to deepen. But as he watched Platinum discuss strategy with Pearl while Dia shared a snack with his Torterra, he realized that being a mentor might be his most important role yet.

Azure clapped his hands, the sound echoing off the hotel walls as he stated, "Alright, enough brooding. Blissey's got them stabilized. First round of lunch is on the Berlitz family tab. Dia, if you beat me to the dining hall, I'll teach your Torterra Wood Hammer."

Dia was already a blur of movement as he yelled, "WOOD HAMMER?! TRU, WAKE UP! WE'RE RUNNING!"

Pearl screamed, chasing after him, "Hey! No fair! Wait for us!"

Platinum giggled—a rare, musical sound—and looked at Dia and Pearl, "You two better not get ahead of me!"

Azure smirked, seeing their reaction lightening up the mood. Unaware to him, though, they had learned a valuable lesson today, one that went beyond battle tactics: the true potential of a Pokémon Master.
