Chapter 12 — Three Months Later

Three months had passed since Zara and Lukman's reunion—three months filled with healing, forgiveness, and the sweet, beautiful chaos of family life. The once-fractured pieces had come together, forming a mosaic more radiant than anyone could've imagined.

Zara and Zainab were no longer just twin sisters by bond—they were neighbors and business partners, living side by side with Lukman and Mubarak in a shared compound. Each family had their own space, yet their lives were deeply entwined. Their daughters, Asna and Afna, had grown inseparable—twin flames dancing through the days together, their laughter becoming the theme song of a home built on love and second chances.

Lukman and Mubarak, the steady anchors behind this unity, had taken their shared dream and made it a reality. Zeal Project Limited had risen to become one of the most reputable software firms in the region, with Zara and Zainab stepping into powerful COO roles. Their vision, intelligence, and discipline perfectly complemented their husbands' strategies. Together, they weren't just a team—they were a legacy in the making.

Despite their success, family came first. Weekends were sacred, reserved for courtyard barbecues, school planning sessions, and lively debates. The smell of grilled chicken wafted through the air, the kids raced under the fading sun, and laughter stitched the hours together. Lukman and Mubarak would often be found deep in conversation about work or football, while Zara and Zainab handled school events and upcoming presentations.

Their bond was rare—effortless, rooted in trust, strengthened by trials, and above all, sincere. They weren't just family. They were a village raising daughters, building dreams, and supporting one another.

After a firm agreement with the family, Mrs. Amira and her children, Salim and Halima, agreed to stay out of the twins' lives. The twins and their husbands had dropped the charges out of compassion—for the sake of the children and to avoid isolating Mrs. Amira completely. Under strict conditions, they left the country as a family, permanently cutting ties with the twins.

It was a Friday evening tradition—post-Jumu'ah meals filled with warmth and unity. Golden sunlight filtered through the large windows of Zara's living room as the families gathered. Around the dining table sat the two couples with their daughters, Asna and Afna, nestled between them. Joining them were Hafsat and Yusuf with their sons, Abdulkareem and Abdulhameed, and Atika and Alamin with their son, Sulaiman.

Under the table, Mubarak gently held Zainab's hand while feeding Afna with his other. Zainab shot him a playful glare, warning him silently to behave, but he only smiled—his love for her had only deepened. He would often remind her how much he missed her during their years apart, and how jealous he was that Afna looked just like her.

Across the table, Lukman was doing the same—feeding both Zara and Asna while stealing loving glances at his wife. Zara, cheeks flushed, couldn't take her eyes off him.

Yusuf cleared his throat loudly. "This generation sha… At least try to pretend you have shame, Lukman!"

Lukman chuckled, slightly embarrassed. "Sorry," he muttered, while Zara lowered her gaze with a shy smile.

Since Zara's return, they had been inseparable—running errands together, working side by side, even picking and dropping Asna from school as a team. Where one went, the other followed.

Thanks to the unwavering dedication of Zara and Zainab, Zeal Project soared higher each day. But love was their true achievement.

"My only question," Alamin said thoughtfully, "is how neither of my sisters ended up working with me. After all I did…"

He let the words hang.

He had sponsored their education, stood by them, believed in them. Yet, they'd chosen their husbands' firm over his. Though his own company was successful—perhaps even more so—he respected their decision, even if he didn't fully understand it.

"Don't worry," Lukman said with a grin. "Maybe when Asna, Afna, or even little Sulaiman grow up, they'll come work for you."

Everyone laughed, the tension fading like mist.

As the night deepened, the room brimmed with laughter, love, and quiet gratitude.

"Alhamdulillah," Zara and Zainab whispered in unison—thankful for their journey, for redemption, and for the daughters whose futures glowed so brightly.

Their story began with heartbreak, but it now rested on peace, purpose, and a promise to protect what they had built.

And somewhere, between the giggles of Asna and Afna, a new chapter was already waiting to be written.

The End?

Not quite.

The next installment in The Twins series is titled The Twins: Twists and Turns—and this time, it's not about Zara, Zainab, Lukman, or Mubarak.

To those patiently waiting for Faking It, please forgive me. As much as I've tried, I don't think I'll be able to continue the story—at least not for now. But Allah knows best. Maybe someday.

Just when I thought I was free, life pulled me back in.

But one way or another, we'll get there.
