Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 One

After that day, she never saw Brandan again.

However, she wasn't in a hurry. She knew she would see him again sooner or later.

That day, as she walked out of the office, Iris Harris received a call from Lady Hyde.

"Auntie, what's up?"

"Iris, do you have time today? Would you like to come to our house for dinner?"

Lady Hyde's voice was gentle and melodious. She was the most delicate and serene woman Iris Harris had ever met, with a graceful and dignified appearance, embodying the refined elegance that only an intellectual household could nurture.

Iris Harris gently replied, "Mm, okay."

After hanging up, Iris stood by the window, gazing at the sunset. Outside, the streets were bustling, people hurried along, and her lips curled up slightly.

Even though she knew this dinner might not be easy, the thought of seeing Brandan again made her exceptionally happy.

She was so, so, so fond of that man.

...

Driving to the Hyde Residence, it was almost dark.

"Miss Harris, the lady is already in the hall."

The butler of the Hyde Residence came out to greet her.

Iris Harris nodded, thanked him, and slowly walked into the hall of the old Hyde residence.

Lady Hyde sat on the sofa, wearing a black cheongsam, her dark hair neatly pinned up, with the tassels of her hairpin gently swaying. She cradled a white kitten in her arms, and upon seeing Iris, she put down the kitten and stood up to greet her.

"Iris, are you hungry? Would you like to eat first?"

Iris Harris looked at Lady Hyde's smiling face, flashed a slight smile, and softly said, "Let's wait for Brandan to come back."

Speaking of Brandan, Lady Hyde sighed gently: "I don't know why, but Brandan hasn't been coming home much lately."

Iris understood why Brandan wouldn't come back; he loved his mother dearly, but Lady Hyde wanted him to marry her, which was a sure reason for him not to return.

Her eyes shifted slightly, and Iris chuckled softly, "Maybe Brandan has been busy with work lately."

Just as they were speaking, the butler's voice suddenly came from outside: "Young master, you're back!"

Iris's heart skipped a beat, and she couldn't help but look toward the courtyard.

In the last trace of sunset, a tall man slowly stepped out from a black Cayenne. Under the dim light, his face resembled a sharp elegance, cold and incisive, seemingly possessing a beauty capable of slicing through the air.

Iris felt everything around her quiet down, as she stared dazedly at the man's face not far away, incessantly repeating a name in her heart.

Brandan, Brandan, Brandan.

Her heart constricted slightly because of this name, overjoyed beyond restraint.

But the man opposite, upon looking up and seeing her at the door, promptly furrowed his sharp brows. The next moment, as if avoiding something, he turned back to the car without a second glance.

"Brandan!"

Lady Hyde's timely gentle voice called out to him, "Dinner's ready, aren't you going to eat with me?"

Brandan paused slightly in his stooping action, then clenched his fist, as if suppressing something, turned around and straightened up to look this way.

He glanced at Iris Harris standing next to Lady Hyde, and irritably said, "Why is she here?"

His tone was full of disdain.

"Your dad's not coming home tonight, I felt lonely, so I invited Iris over to keep me company for dinner."

Lady Hyde tenderly held Iris Harris's hand and smiled at Brandan, "What's wrong?"
