Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Holding Onto Hope

For quite a while, Mu Qiancheng withdrew his gaze and then left with a look of disappointment.

Jiang Xue didn't know what Mu Qiancheng was thinking, nor did she know the disappointment in his heart. She just wanted him out because he looked so tired and she wanted him to rest.

Just a moment ago, in a fit of annoyance, she spoke without thinking. She wasn't upset that Mu Qiancheng's grip was too strong and hurt her hand, but rather at what he had said in response.

"Not intentional?"

Actually, Jiang Xue didn't dislike Mu Qiancheng's touch, she even quite liked it. But his words "not intentional" made her feel she might have been misguided.

She even wondered if she had misunderstood, that perhaps Mu Qiancheng didn't love her as much as she'd imagined.

It must be said, even living a new life, some things in Jiang Xue's nature couldn't easily change. Such as her penchant for acting up, being capricious, and having a temper.

Her personality was something most people couldn't handle.

Just like now, it wasn't really anything serious, but because of one sentence from Mu Qiancheng, she got angry, leading to such a big misunderstanding, and causing their relationship, which could have improved, to return to a standstill.

Mu Qiancheng left the room and walked into the yard, meeting his father's concerned gaze.

"Qiancheng, are you okay?" Mu Siwu asked with a worried expression. He hadn't gone far earlier, so he naturally heard what was said between the two of them.

To be honest, when Jiang Xue first mentioned that she'd change, he was skeptical. Today, hearing the initial things Jiang Xue said to Mu Qiancheng, he was somewhat relieved.

But upon hearing her final words, he, like Mu Qiancheng, felt disappointed.

It seems they had set their expectations too high. As the saying goes, "A leopard cannot change its spots." How could Jiang Xue change so easily?

Mu Siwu sighed internally and patted his son Mu Qiancheng on the shoulder, earnestly saying, "Son, since this is the path you've chosen, even if you must kneel, you have to walk it."

"Dad, I understand. I'm fine, don't worry." Mu Qiancheng nodded. He understood his father's words. Precisely because he understood, he had been enduring all along.

Moreover, he still had hope for Jiang Xue, hoping that one day she would see his worth and they could live well together.

However, he didn't know if this hope would eventually become a luxury, or if he would end up disappointed. But for now, he would strive to improve their relationship.

"It's good that you understand. After sitting on the train for two days, you must be tired. Go rest! Your mother should be back soon." Mu Siwu told Mu Qiancheng to rest while he turned over the soil in the yard, planning to plant some radishes and cabbages.

"Dad, let me help you." Mu Qiancheng didn't go to rest; instead, he took off his coat, rolled up his pants, and helped Mu Siwu with the work.

The father and son worked together and soon finished preparing the ground in the yard. But with the ground ready, his mother still hadn't returned, so Mu Qiancheng couldn't help but ask, "Dad, where did Mom go?"

"Your mom went to the market to buy groceries," Mu Siwu replied with a smile. Now that Jiang Xue had just given birth, she needed nutritional supplements. Plus, knowing their son would return, the couple decided to buy some groceries.

Because their son worked in Shenzhen and had a salary and allowances, the Mu Family was relatively well-off. They were one of the better-off families in the village and could afford to buy groceries.

"Then I'll go meet Mom." Mu Qiancheng said, heading out of the yard.
