The medical staff hurried upstairs with the medical kit, and Sophie Smith stood rigidly to the side, watching the doctor work busily to save a life. She turned away, unable to bear the scene any longer, and large tears kept falling.
Asher Land stood beside her, pulling her into his embrace.
"It will be okay." He held her tightly, trying to comfort, but he didn't even notice that his own voice was trembling.
"Mr. Land, Miss Smith," the doctor approached, "I'm sorry, but please step outside for now. Rest assured, we will do everything we can to save Miss Morton."
"Let's go outside. We shouldn't be here getting in the doctor's way." Asher said softly in her ear. He nodded to the doctor and then led Sophie out of the room.
A few maids gathered outside the door, but when Asher glanced at them, they all stepped back.
Sophie pushed Asher away, her body weakly leaning against the cold wall, slowly sliding down.
