By late afternoon, Edmund Hensley was still in the police interview room where he had been taken after Vespera ordered him detained because, according to her, pretending to be someone you're not is illegal on US soil.
He had been offered water in a paper cup, searched, and asked to explain what his medication was for. His lawyer arrived while he was trying to get comfortable in a chair that punished his spine.
"Where have you been?"
"Finding out who has your file. There are several people taking an interest."
"Then perhaps one of them could take an interest in this fucking fist!" Edmund shouted, swinging at thin air. The movement took everything out of his lungs, forcing him to wheeze hard.
"..." The lawyer remained silent, letting him get it all out of his system.
"I want a phone," Edmund finally managed.
Given one, he dialed a number from memory. His lawyer was still opening his briefcase when the call connected.
"Edmund?"
