Yamanaka Shinno's idea of "drawing from various sources to create a new jutsu" was immediately shot down by Tsunade.
According to her, simply transferring life energy wasn't particularly difficult. The real challenge was how to use that transferred life energy to heal the recipient's physical injuries.
After all, not everyone was like Gaara in the original story—who, despite being captured by the Akatsuki and having his Tailed Beast extracted, managed to survive without any lasting physical damage.
In most cases, a ninja's fatal injuries were severe enough to be described as "gruesome."
Compared to that, Nohara Rin's death—having her heart pierced—was actually one of the less horrific ways to go.
After hearing Tsunade's explanation, Shinno mentally crossed out the Earth Grudge Fear technique and the Dead Demon Consuming Seal from his list of possible jutsu to study. Instead, he put extra emphasis on two specific techniques—the Dragon Life Reincarnation and the Butterfly Metamorphosis Secret Technique of the Fuma Clan.
Even if he couldn't outright steal them the way Kumogakure did, given his current strength and expertise in Yin Release, finding an opportunity to track down a clan member who knew these jutsu—and then rewriting their memory afterward—wouldn't be too difficult.
Perhaps because of the topic they had just discussed, Tsunade seemed to be lost in old memories.
After finishing off an entire table full of food and rice, she didn't ask to enter a genjutsu and go on another rampage. Instead, she simply returned to her room to continue researching her previous jutsu.
Shinno and Kushina—one having just returned from a ten-day mission, and the other having just overseen the completion of the new jōnin standby station—were both completely exhausted.
After unpacking several large crates they had brought back from the Senju estate, they exchanged brief goodnights before heading to their respective rooms.
As for any romantic tension between them?
With Tsunade right there, the two of them wisely kept their budding thoughts in check.
[...]
The night passed without incident.
The next morning, around 9:30, Shinno was slowly roused from sleep by the sound of steady rainfall.
They say autumn rain brings the cold, and this mid-October shower had finally washed away the last remnants of summer's heat.
Opening his bedroom door, he saw that the spacious living room was already stocked with fresh ingredients and cooking utensils.
On the dining table, along with a neatly prepared breakfast, there was a small note alongside the shopping list he had given Nara Yoshino the night before.
[Shinno, I've checked the list—nothing's missing.][I'm meeting with the furniture store owner today to finalize the custom orders for the jōnin standby station. I won't be back until noon.][I left an umbrella at the entrance—don't forget to take it with you!][Also, make sure you finish your breakfast before heading out~ (˘︶˘)...:*♡]
The handwriting on the note was familiar.
Shinno's lips curved into a small smile as he read it.
After a quick wash-up, he sat down and efficiently finished his breakfast.
Even though Kushina wasn't home, the simple fact that someone was looking out for him filled him with a warmth he hadn't felt in years.
With his meal finished, he changed into a simple yet practical battle outfit, slipped on a brand-new jōnin vest, and double-checked the scrolls in his pockets and the ninja tools on his belt.
Only after making sure everything was in place did he pick up the umbrella and step outside.
The rain had thinned out the usual foot traffic in the village.
Even though Konoha's stone-paved streets didn't turn muddy in the rain, many people still preferred to stay indoors during such weather.
But Shinno liked rainy days.
Whether it was sleeping under a warm blanket, leaning against a window to watch the raindrops fall, or simply writing in peace—there was something about the sound of rain that always made him feel calm and at ease.
With that in mind, he walked through the quiet streets, umbrella in hand, and made his way to the Hokage's office.
At the entrance, he shook off the excess water from his black umbrella before leaving it in the document review room on the first floor. Then, he climbed the stairs to the second floor and entered the archives room to register.
The archives room was divided into two sections.
The outer section contained a desk and two chairs, where an ANBU operative sat, eyes fixed on Shinno as he entered.
The inner section was locked behind a thick metal door, guarded by another ANBU at the entrance.
The previous afternoon, the Third Hokage had signed off on Shinno's request.
Now, the ANBU captain known as "Ox" reviewed the registration details before verifying Shinno's identity once more. Then, he retrieved a thick jutsu catalog from the archives.
"No need," Shinno waved him off before he could open it. "I've already decided—Infinite Darkness Jutsu and the Spirit Transformation Technique."
The archive housed an extensive collection of jutsu, but most of them weren't particularly valuable to him.
As a member of the Yamanaka Clan and a former five-year veteran of the analysis division, Shinno already had access to an overwhelming number of elemental and obscure techniques.
"Wait here," Ox nodded slightly before exchanging glances with the other ANBU.
The two of them unlocked the heavy metal door and entered the inner section of the archive.
Moments later, Ox returned with two palm-sized scrolls and placed them on the table.
"Verify the jutsu's authenticity, sign here. And you already know the regulations, so I don't need to remind you."
His tone remained cold and curt.
Having served in ANBU since the era of the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama, Ox had long since become a man of few words. In fact, this was probably the most he had spoken in years—an honor reserved for those he considered acquaintances.
"Yeah. No recording, no removal from the premises, no sharing of the jutsu's principles, and no unauthorized teaching to others."
Shinno gave the scrolls a quick scan before signing the confirmation document. Then, he focused on carefully reading the two techniques.
Infinite Darkness Jutsu (A-Rank)
A genjutsu that completely seals off an opponent's vision, trapping them in utter darkness.
Unlike most genjutsu, where the victim can escape by disrupting their chakra flow, Infinite Darkness Jutsu doesn't allow such an easy counter.
The victim is fully aware they are caught in an illusion, yet they remain powerless to break free.
Developed specifically to counter the Sharingan, this genjutsu was designed to bypass its usual defenses—making it exceptionally difficult to dispel.
Though Shinno's own genjutsu skills were already formidable, studying the structure of this technique could still provide valuable insights.
Spirit Transformation Technique (S-Rank)
A secret soul-based technique reminiscent of ancient tales of "Yang Spirit Projection," allowing the user's soul to leave their physical body and move freely.
The technique grants numerous abilities:
Unrestricted movement across vast distances. Long-range soul detection. Chakra transmission via spiritual form. Immunity to physical attacks. The ability to overwhelm enemy spirits and seize control of their bodies. Even the capability to capture ascending souls after the Edo Tensei is undone.
As a Yamanaka, Shinno's clan techniques already allowed him to disrupt enemy minds and control their bodies.
However, they didn't permit complete separation from his own body, nor could they transmit chakra over long distances.
If he could integrate this technique into his clan's abilities—allowing for precise control over his spirit's movement—his combat potential would reach an entirely new level.
And the ability to move instantly across any distance?
The possibilities were endless.
