Chapter 307 - Chapter 307: by chance

"The Masked Man?"

Kakashi narrowed his eyes.

He wasn't surprised the man appeared on the battlefield—after all, war could erupt anytime, anywhere. But what puzzled him was how deliberately the masked man seemed to be seeking him out.

Kakashi didn't think he was so important that a member of Akatsuki would come for him specifically. Yet the fury radiating from his opponent said otherwise—this was personal.

Boom!

A nearby tree shattered as the masked man launched forward like a cannonball.

"So fast—"

Kakashi's Sharingan caught a blur, just enough to register that the man's speed was near impossible to track with the naked eye.

But what surprised him even more was what the masked man didn't do. Why wasn't he using his usual time-space ninjutsu or his Mangekyō abilities? They would've been much harder to counter.

Too many thoughts, too little time. Kakashi barely had enough time to raise his arms to block—

CRASH!

The impact hit him like a truck. He was sent flying, faster than he'd seen the man move.

Boom, boom, boom!

He bounced off several trees before coming to a stop, blood on his lips.

"Not just fast... terrifyingly strong too."

He hadn't even recovered when the man charged again—relentless.

But just as the attack was about to land, a blur of green cut through the air.

"Konoha Strong Whirlwind!"

CRACK!

Might Guy's spinning kick landed on the masked man's jaw, sending him flying instead. His face visibly distorted from the blow.

"Guy! You're awake?!"

Kakashi was both surprised and relieved.

"I've been awake the whole time," Guy grinned, teeth gleaming. "Just in time for the real fight."

Kakashi's expression remained grim. "Be careful. This masked man... he feels different now. More dangerous."

Based on previous intel, this man wasn't supposed to have such raw power and speed. Something had changed.

"Understood," Guy nodded, staring up at the high ledge where the masked man now stood again—face twisted in fury.

"You bastard!"

With a roar, he dove again toward Kakashi.

But Guy intercepted him, and the clash of fists and feet erupted like a storm. The shockwaves alone sent trees trembling and echoed like thunder across the woods.

Even with the Sharingan, Kakashi could barely track them.

"Incredible..."

He watched Guy match him blow for blow.

Guy had long trained in the Eight Gates, and just recently entered a no-thought, no-self state that amplified his power. But what about the masked man?

What Kakashi didn't know was that the man—Obito—had long ago fused with White Zetsu, and had first-generation cells transplanted into him by Madara. That, combined with fragments from the creature "Satori," gave him immense chakra reserves and fed his rage with corrupted power.

It was a toxic cocktail, but for a Uchiha, negative emotions were fuel.

Still, something nagged at Kakashi.

"Why hasn't he used his time-space jutsu?"

That was his most troublesome ability—and yet he wasn't using it. Why? Was he too unstable? Had something happened to his eyes?

Regardless of the reason, it was giving Guy the edge.

"Sixth Gate—Gate of View: Open!"

Guy's body turned crimson, and flames erupted from his fists.

"Morning Peacock!"

A barrage of punches, each trailing fire, slammed into Obito.

The masked man struggled to keep up. He tried to block but was overwhelmed by the sheer force and precision.

"Now, Guy! Get back!"

Kakashi shouted, blood dripping from his Mangekyō Sharingan as he activated Kamui.

Guy jumped aside just in time. A swirling vortex appeared around Obito, distorting the space. His body twisted, sucked into the dimensional rift.

Kakashi sighed in relief—until—

Flicker.

Obito reappeared instantly in front of him, hand stretched forward like a claw.

"You don't deserve that eye!"

Kakashi had no time to react. In a blur of motion and searing pain, the Mangekyō Sharingan was torn from his left eye socket.

"KAKASHI!"

Guy shouted, but he was a step too late.

Obito vanished.

---

In the Kamui Dimension, Obito stood still, staring at the stolen eye in his palm. The rage that had consumed him moments ago now cooled into ash.

"What... what did I just do?"

The sight of the eye—the symbol of his friendship and betrayal—sent a wave of guilt crashing into him. For a fleeting moment, clarity returned.

But the remnants of "Satori's " chakra surged again, threatening to override his mind.

"No... I won't let you control me!"

He screamed at the void, clutching his head.

Desperation rising, Obito tore the corrupted White Zetsu half from his own body. The slimy, writhing thing hit the ground with a wet slap—like a piece of rotting meat still alive.

Bloodied and panting, Obito shoved Kakashi's eye into his own socket.

The Sharingan spun—matching the right—and with a sudden burst of clarity and power, the corrupted chakra was pushed aside.

---

On the battlefield, Zetsu—hidden underground—watched with disbelief.

"He really did it... He took it back."

All his scheming had failed to convince Obito to reclaim the eye. Yet something in that twisted encounter had driven him to do so.

"What exactly did he go through...?"

But before he could investigate further, Zetsu sensed a new threat. He quickly retreated into the earth.

A second later, Orochimaru appeared.

"Tch. Slippery as always."

He glanced around the battlefield.

"Orochimaru!" Guy called out. "Kakashi—his eye—"

"I know."

Orochimaru cut him off.

He had already been briefed by Djinn on everything: the Kamui dimension, the fragments of Satori, and Obito's sudden eruption.

"Kakashi will be fine. Let him rest."

Then he turned toward the restrained creature—Satori —pinned down by dozens of elite jōnin.

"Interesting…" Orochimaru mused. "So much negative emotion. A perfect fuel source for the Uchiha."

He watched it writhe—still alive, still dangerous.

"This thing… isn't just a chakra beast. It's something more... something made from sorrow itself."

He recalled how ordinary ninjas, even after death, didn't carry such negative energy. This... was something else entirely. Something that had been bred to suffer.

"Enough analysis. Time to seal it."

With a grin, Orochimaru stepped forward and summoned a captive—White Zetsu.

"W-what are you doing?!" the Zetsu clone screamed.

"Relax," Orochimaru replied, smiling darkly. "I'm doing something great. I'm going to make you the Jinchūriki of 'Satori.'"
