Chapter 220 - Chapter 220

According to official power level settings, Master Roshi's base power level is 139, and in serious Muscle Form, it is 180. Interestingly, Tien Shinhan's power level during the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament is also 180.

Theoretically, if Master Roshi fought at full strength, the battle between him and Tien would be evenly matched.

But in terms of destructive power, Master Roshi's Kamehameha pushed away the Moon and destroyed Frypan Mountain, while Tien's full-power Tri-Beam only destroyed the World Martial Arts Tournament venue. (A/N: I don't believe Master Roshi actually destroyed the moon during his fight with Goku when he turned Oozaru, because there was a moon that Piccolo destroyed, unless Dragon Ball Earth has multiple moons, it would be incredibly rare for a new moon to suddenly pop out and fit in the same lunar cycle and pattern as previous one. It is more believable that Master Roshi pushed the moon away but due to gravity of Earth and Sun it eventually returned back to its previous pattern.)

By the way, Master Shen's power level is 129, which is more than one tier below the others.

With Master Roshi's concession, he did more than lose a match, he signaled the end of his era.

"This will be the era of you young people from now on." Master Roshi walked toward the Martial Arts Tournament Resting Area, speaking as if to himself. He calmly acknowledged that he could no longer keep pace with the changing times, yet his expression held no sign of desolation.

"I wonder what kind of era this will become? It really makes one look forward to it."

'Master Roshi is impeccable in both his conduct and martial arts, except for being lecherous, yet such a lecherous guy turns out to be an old virgin who has lived for several hundred years.'

Standing in the Contestant Waiting Room, Naruto watched Master Roshi's figure fade away.

'If Goku's master had been someone else, like Master Shen or Piccolo, perhaps he would have been stronger in the early stages, but he absolutely wouldn't have achieved what he did later.'

'Having Master Roshi as a teacher is truly a blessing.'

Master Roshi's open-minded attitude gave Naruto a deep lesson.

"Match three, Naruto versus Yamcha. Would both contestants please prepare to enter the arena."

"If you don't want to get hurt, you might as well surrender now." Even during this match, Yamcha's attention remained fixed on Tien.

Naruto was similar in age to Kid Goku, but his build and physique were more robust, though he still couldn't hide the youth in his face.

Yamcha was the kind of person who judged others by their appearance.

Combined with blind confidence in his own strength, he spat the words out.

"The Turtle School's Yamcha?" Naruto glanced at Yamcha with a calm gaze. "Do you think there are many weak ones among those who've made it to the Top 8?"

"Could my reaching this point all be luck?"

"Put away your arrogance and your dismissive attitude."

"Otherwise, it will bring you down sooner or later."

A fondness for underestimating opponents and an inability to recognize his own true strength, this summary defined Yamcha's entire life.

In the original storyline, during his first appearance at the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, he dismissed Master Roshi because of the old man's age. Rather than going all-out from the start, he opted to probe his opponent, only to be swept out of the ring by a Light Breeze technique and eliminated in the Top 8. By the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, his strength had grown considerably under Master Roshi's guidance, but his self-awareness remained poor. He believed he was more than a match for Tien, only to be effortlessly defeated. At the 24th World Martial Arts Tournament, he once again underestimated an opponent, who had been possessed by an Kami. Even after being struck multiple times, Yamcha dismissed the hits as coincidence until the partially-revealed Kami put him in his place.

They say lightning never strikes the same place three times, yet even after being knocked down repeatedly, Yamcha refused to learn.

During the Saiyan Saga, he hesitated to deliver a finishing blow to the Saibaman. The creature grabbed him and self-destructed, creating the iconic Yamcha Death Pose.

From that point on, Yamcha's role in actual combat within the manga ended. He could no longer keep pace with Goku and the others through the Frieza and Android Sagas. While the anime gave him more screen time later, such as defeating the Ginyu Force, his fighting days in the manga were over.

"You little brat!" Frustrated by Naruto's lecture, Yamcha turned to him with a scowl. "Looks like I need to teach you some respect."

Yamcha moved instantly, dropping into a standard Turtle School opening stance.

He wasn't using his full power, though even this probing attack far exceeded what an Elite Jonin could handle.

Naruto's strength, however, had long since ceased to be measurable by Elite Jonin standards.

"Where it is lion wrestling an elephant, they give it their all. Same when lion catching a rabbit, they give it their all!" Naruto blocked Yamcha's entire barrage of punches with a single finger.

"You only use probing attacks when you're holding back. Can't you sense the gap between us?"

He flicked his finger, and Yamcha went flying.

Fortunately, Naruto used little force, or the blow would have knocked him unconscious. Yamcha dug his hands into the ground like claws, scraping five deep gouges across the arena floor. He strained with tremendous effort before finally stopping near the edge of the ring.

"Damn it!"

Naruto's display didn't just shock Yamcha, even Tien, Goku, and Master Roshi looked grave. Their gazes shifted toward Yamcha.

When Kid Goku had left the Sealing Space, Naruto already possessed the strength to battle him. This version of the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament operated at a power level an entire step lower than that time.

Simply put, Naruto currently outclassed the Z Fighters by a full rank.

Naruto beckoned Yamcha with a provocative gesture. "Come on then. Let's see what you've got."

"I need to get serious." Yamcha steadied his mind and reassumed his combat stance.

This time, Yamcha's speed far surpassed his previous attack. He launched a relentless barrage against Naruto.

But-

"Flashy, impractical attack. Are you trying to overwhelm an me with a flurry of punches?"

"You make too many unnecessary movements," Naruto said, effortlessly dodging the assault and pointing out every flaw in his style. "Master Roshi should have taught you not to focus so much on looking cool."

Yamcha's greatest weakness was his habit of using attacks that looked flashy but served no purpose. Tien was far superior in that regard.

Naruto kicked the back of Yamcha's head. Yamcha collapsed, clutching his skull and crouching on the arena floor for a long moment before recovering.

"Fine then, Wolf Fang Fist!" Yamcha roared.

Yamcha unleashed his trump card, a technique learned in the desert by imitating wolves, a fighting style that abandoned defense for pure offense.

It was Yamcha's signature move, but aside from his first appearance where it actually worked, every subsequent use ended in humiliation.

"Your footing is too sloppy." Naruto glided across the arena, dodging Yamcha's attacks with ease. He suddenly bent low and swept his leg.

*SPLAT*, Yamcha faceplanted directly on ground.

"Fighting isn't just about attacking with your fists. You have to pay attention to your lower body, too."

"Hahahaha!" Cheerful laughter filled the stands. Laughter erupted from the crowd.

"So embarrassing." Bulma, Yamcha's girlfriend, covered her eyes.

"Damn it!" Yamcha's face flushed red as he struggled to his feet.

"Ignore the crowd. Focus on your own ki," Naruto said coolly, sensing the rapid fluctuations within Yamcha's body. "A little mockery throws your ki out of balance. In a real fight, that's how you die."

This was the difference between their worlds. In the Naruto-verse, mockery meant nothing. As long as you took down your opponent, the laughter didn't matter.

Naruto grew up surrounded by hostility and turned out fine.

The Dragon Ball-verse was different. Even during the Frieza Saga, there were no large-scale wars, mostly just arena-style one-on-one battles.

"Stop making unnecessary movements. Stop striking flashy, impractical poses. You're just giving your opponent openings."

Naruto threw a casual punch that landed square in Yamcha's stomach. The sharp pain forced him to his knees.

Yamcha had been completely dominated, unable to mount a single effective attack.

"Isn't that guy using Turtle School martial arts?!" Kid Goku's sharp eyes were the first to recognize Naruto's movements.

Krillin looked at Master Roshi, who had moved backstage to observe the match up close. "Could he be another disciple of Master Roshi?"

Master Roshi shook his head firmly. "Don't be ridiculous. I've never taken him as a disciple."

'There's no way he's a disciple of Ox-King,' Roshi thought. 'With his abilities, Ox-King couldn't possibly train someone to this level.'

'His control of ki has reached a point where his skill surpasses my own.'

"I don't know about that." Krillin recalled his own experience joining the school. "Master, didn't you once teach martial arts to someone in exchange for a few magazines?"

"How could you say that?!" Master Roshi slapped Krillin's shiny bald head. "Is that how you see your master? I am known throughout the martial arts world as an upright gentleman, and you think I'm some kind of pervert? How disappointing."

His passionate denial was too vigorous. A book slipped from his robe.

It was the 'Icha Icha Paradise' Naruto had given Master Roshi earlier.

Krillin stared at the provocative illustration on the cover, then looked at Master Roshi.

He kept staring.

"I'm reading this book with a critical eye." Master Roshi's face was thicker than a city wall. Without blushing or skipping a beat, he picked up 'Icha Icha Paradise' and tucked it back into his robe.

Master Roshi didn't dwell on the encounter, but a thought lingered in his mind.

'Could I have actually taught him in the past?'
