On Saturday morning, which was the last Saturday of October, Milo followed Ignatius and Lucretia to Gringotts. He had skipped the morning gathering with the Blacks so that he could go get his Prewett Heirship ring. They walked inside the bank and Ignatius approached one of the tellers.
"I am here to see Brimthorn," Ignatius stated. The teller nodded.
"Brimthorn will be with you shortly," the goblin said flatly.
"Thank you," Ignatius said politely. The three waited for a full five minutes before Brimthorn arrived and took them to his office.
"I am assuming you are here so Miaplacidus Prewett can claim his Heirship ring?" Brimthorn asked.
"Yes, that is correct," Lucretia confirmed.
The goblin motioned for Milo to step forward. Milo already knew what to expect. He had done this once before, when Lady Prince had brought him here to get his Prince Heirship ring when he was eleven. He held out his right hand.
The goblin put the ring on Milo's finger, then said, "Lord Ignatius Prewett, do you accept Miaplacidus Prewett as your Heir?"
"I do," Ignatius responded.
"Miaplacidus Prewett do you accept the responsibility that comes with the title of Heir Prewett?" the goblin asked.
"I do," Milo said with confidence.
"Congratulations, Heir Prewett," Brimthorn said. "You are now the rightful Heir to the House of Prewett."
"Thank you," Milo replied. And with that, they left Gringotts.
"That process is so easy," Milo said.
"Yes, it definitely is easier than some things you do at that bank," Lucretia replied. "You should have seen all the times I had to wait around the bank for hours as a child and watch my parents do what I called Grown-up Stuff. Of course, as an adult, I let Ignatius do the really long Gringotts business."
Milo smirked. "Oh, I see, put it all on Ignatius?"
Ignatius grinned. "Oh, she told me from day one that she doesn't like going to the bank, because it's boring."
"Well, it is!" Lucretia said with a laugh. Milo rolled his eyes at them.
Back at Hogwarts, the other Marauders were waiting for Milo at lunch. When they saw him enter the Great Hall, Lily waved him over.
"Hi Milo," she greeted him. "How did it go?"
"It went fine," Milo answered, sitting down between Lily and Sirius.
"Just fine?" Remus asked.
"Yeah, just fine? Not good? Not great?" James joked. Milo sighed.
"Alright, it went well," he corrected himself.
"Hey, now you have two rings!" Lyanna said excitedly. "That can't be normal, right?"
"Actually, you'd be surprised," Sirius said. "Some Heirs have four or five rings."
"Four or five rings?" Capella asked, surprised.
"Yeah," Regulus spoke up. "In fact, you can have up to seven rings."
"Wait, SEVEN?!" Lily asked with shock written all over her face. "That's... a lot!"
"Yeah, it's because pure-bloods are all related somehow, and especially for families who are dying out, they'll find anyone, even those who are distant relatives, to take up the mantle."
"That's incredible!" Lyanna exclaimed. "I never knew about pure-bloods, neven from our Magical Studies class."
"Yeah, some people forget to teach that," James explained. "I don't know why, it makes no sense. I mean, come on! Muggle-borns or people who grow up in Muggle households aren't going to know anything about pure-blood families being related and giving the Heir several rings!"
"That's wild that they don't teach that," Alice said with a frown. "Maybe that's something that should be brought up so they can start teaching it."
"That's a great idea," Mary said with a nod.
"I can talk to Grandfather about it," Sirius suggested.
"Alright, cool," James said, stuffing food into his mouth. The other friends rolled their eyes.
"James, when will you ever grow up?" Lily asked teasingly.
James shrugged. "Dunno," he mumbled through a mouthful of food.
"Boys," Lily muttered as she stood up. "Boys have NO manners!"
"Yes we do!" James, Sirius, Regulus, and Remus shouted.
"I was just talking about James," Lily said with a glare at the other boys. "But you three aren't much better." Before they could defend themselves further, she exited the Great Hall.
"She's impossible!" James muttered, shoving more food into his mouth.
"You know, she may not be wrong," Capella said with a grin before exiting the Hall as well.
Sirius turned to the others who were still there.
"Remember how I told you guys we should put on Cyrano de Bergerac for Uncle Regulus?" he asked.
"Yeah, I remember," Lyanna said with a nod. "What about it?"
"Well, I found out that Cyrano de Bergerac is four hours long," Sirius explained. "Grandmother is working on figuring out who will play which character. She said there are so many characters, that we're going to have a lot of people participating in the play, and not just the Marauders and the Blacks. I mean, you wouldn't believe how many characters there are!"
"Well, that will be exciting!" Regulus said with a grin.
"Did she say if she'll have it all sorted out and ready for us to practice it before July?" Capella asked.
"Yes, we will have our parts by February," Sirius assured them.
"Perfect," James said as he stood up. "I'm looking forward to it!"
"Me too," Sirius said as they stood and left the Great Hall.
