"Nothing happened, it was just a normal spar."
Rosse glanced at the newcomer, his tone as flat as always.
The newcomer was wearing the haori of Squad Two's captain. She wasn't even one meter fifty tall, her body slender and light. Her looks were excellent, but that cold, indifferent face gave people the feeling she was shutting them out from a thousand miles away.
"A captain going all out against another captain is not normal sparring," The woman let out a cold snort, looking at Rosse with clear irritation.
"Captain of Squad Ten, you've only been in the Seireitei a few days, and you've already created two vile incidents."
"Vile incidents? Captain, don't talk nonsense. Where exactly did you see a vile incident?", Rosse didn't bother with her at all, he didn't even look at her.
"Captain Sui Feng!"
Matsumoto Rangiku hurried over when she saw what was going on, greeting the Squad Two captain, Sui Feng.
"I don't want what you think, I want what the other captains think. If you've got something to say, go tell the Head Captain," Sui Feng glanced at Rosse, then disappeared without looking back.
She really had nothing to say to Rosse.
In her eyes, Rosse and Zaraki Kenpachi were no different in essence, both troublemakers of the Gotei 13.
But when it came to the two men's combat strength, Sui Feng had a clear understanding.
In a normal fight she had no chance at all.
But in a fight to the death, that wasn't necessarily the case.
"Among the captains, it seems like the only one I saw that day in front of the Head Captain was somewhat normal, I guess," Rosse said with a laugh.
These Shinigami, from his perspective, really didn't have anyone normal.
And their level of illness was way worse than that bunch of pirates.
"Uh... not all of them. The captain of Squad Six should count as normal?", Matsumoto Rangiku looked a bit awkward. Rosse had only just come to the Seireitei and had only run into trouble, never any of the good things.
"Squad Six? I heard that's a noble squad?", Rosse lifted a brow and gave Rangiku a smiling look.
"Yeah. Even though they're a noble squad, the Kuchiki family has always been a representative of all noble houses. They've kept up noble decorum for generations, so the captain should get along with you... probably," Rangiku's tone had a touch of uncertainty. Squad Six was the one she had the least contact with, and she didn't really know what they were like.
The only person she knew from there was Abarai Renji, who had been in the same class as Hinamori Momo and the others. Their contact was sparse, so she really wasn't sure whether their captain, Kuchiki Byakuya, was a normal person.
Over these past few days following Rosse around, she felt like the Seireitei was nothing like it used to be.
These days Squad Ten could stomp Squad Eleven's face into the ground, so who knew what other explosive things might happen.
The cleanup of Squad Eleven wrapped up quickly. There wasn't much to do anyway. Just pack up all the valuable stuff left in Squad Eleven, and that was that.
Squad Ten wasn't great at fighting, but when it came to hauling things, they would never fall behind any other squad.
Ten million kan? Squad Eleven definitely couldn't come up with that now.
But it was fine. Squad Eleven's training ground equipment was valuable. If they moved out a good chunk of it, it'd about cover things.
As for what money they still owed afterward, well, the Central 46 provided funding to each squad every month. They'd just take all of Squad Eleven's funding to pay down the debt.
And the cost of doing that... honestly Rosse felt there was no cost at all.
———
Still, after Sui Feng submitted her report, the Head Captain called him in for a talk.
"So you're telling me you can't control Zaraki Kenpachi, but you want to control Squad Ten? You think Squad Eleven doesn't listen to reason, so instead you expect Squad Ten to follow the rules? What kind of logic is that?"
Coming to Squad One again felt like coming home. After Sui Feng finished her accusations, Rosse immediately went on the offensive.
"Captain Zaraki is a barbarian, and Squad Eleven is full of thugs, but your Squad Ten is not," Sui Feng complained.
She hated rule-breakers the most. Before this, only Squad Eleven had a troublemaker. Now there was another one.
"That's enough. From today on, all captains are forbidden to duel in private," The Head Captain's single sentence settled the matter.
The Gotei 13 was never a kind organization. Since he'd previously indulged Zaraki Kenpachi, he had no reason to punish Rosse now.
It was just that before, the other captains avoided Zaraki Kenpachi, while Rosse wasn't only stronger, but actually chose to take him head-on.
To prevent Zaraki Kenpachi from accidentally getting beaten to death, the Head Captain decided to prohibit private duels.
"You'll have to tell that to Captain Zaraki. As long as the other captains don't take a swing at me, I'm not going to take a swing at them," Rosse shrugged. In these run-ins, it had never been his fault.
"As expected, a troublemaker," Sui Feng shot Rosse a look full of disgust.
"If I'm a troublemaker, then what is Captain Zaraki? Rat droppings? Anyway, Squad Eleven's problem is dealt with. I'm going to carry out the Head Captain's mission now. Captain Sui Feng, if you have a problem with Squad Ten, feel free to use your Stealth Force methods to take a cheap shot at me anytime," Rosse waved a hand. Seeing the Head Captain had nothing else to say, he left Squad One.
———
"Captain! How did it go?", When Rosse came out, Matsumoto Rangiku rushed over from the waiting room, worry all over her face.
After all, Squad Ten had never done anything like this before, so she didn't know how the Head Captain would respond.
"It's fine. This was just a small matter between two squads. Since they didn't interfere with Squad Eleven before, they won't interfere with us now," Rosse smiled and reached out to ruffle her wavy hair.
Even though Rangiku looked like a mature older sister, he still couldn't resist giving her a few playful rubs.
"Captain!"
Rangiku slapped his hand away in mock anger. Seeing he still had the energy to fool around, she finally let out a breath of relief.
"Come on, let's head back."
Rosse smiled again, didn't try anything else, and started walking toward Squad Ten.
But today was really a restless one.
He hadn't even taken two steps when he ran into another captain.
"Well now, isn't this Captain Ichimaru? Waiting for me?"
Rosse smiled and waved at the man leaning against the wall.
"Captain Ichimaru, is something the matter?", Seeing the person she knew best, Matsumoto Rangiku didn't show any joy at all. Instead, her face was full of caution.
Ichimaru Gin definitely wasn't here for her. Since he was blocking their path, he clearly had something in mind for Rosse.
"Oh my, oh my. I just wanted to see if Captain Rosse, who so easily suppressed Captain Zaraki, would be punished by the Head Captain," Ichimaru Gin, smiling with narrowed eyes, stared at Rosse. His gaze never lingered on Rangiku even for a moment.
"Too bad for you, the Head Captain didn't punish me at all. Though from now on, we captains aren't allowed to spar inside the Seireitei," Rosse gave a warm smile.
Ichimaru wasn't here for him. Or rather, targeting Rosse was just incidental. What he really wanted was to check on Rangiku.
