Chapter 200 - Chapter 199: You’re the Star of Tonight

The Caliburn rolled slowly into the Seafront district. As the door opened, Lin Mo was greeted by the salty sea breeze and the faint, unpleasant tang drifting up from the nearby river.

Still, habit was humanity's greatest weapon.

He'd chosen this spot for his workshop weeks ago. After visiting it a few times during construction, he'd gotten used to the smell.

David followed close behind, walking beside him through the golden hue of dusk. The sun was sinking, its last light stretching across the narrow riverside path like a gilded carpet, heralding the arrival of night.

The two walked only a couple of minutes before reaching the familiar place.

Even though he'd seen it many times before, Lin Mo couldn't help but let his gaze roam across the building before them, a hint of pride glinting in his eyes.

"Well, David," he said, his tone teasing, "this is where your mom—Gloria—works."

David shot him a glare, unimpressed.

"Why does it sound so weird when you say it? Are you insulting me?"

"Of course not." Lin Mo chuckled, continuing to admire the building.

It was a thoroughly renovated mid-rise structure—about eight or nine meters tall—standing out conspicuously among the smaller riverside buildings.

The architecture mixed minimalist European style with sleek, cyber-industrial flair. It blended with the surroundings while still exuding its own sharp, modern character.

The workshop sat exactly where Old Bug's old ripperdoc shop had once been.

After demolishing and rebuilding that storefront—and buying out several neighboring properties—Lin Mo had finally cleared enough space for his project.

Then, through the Yoru Construction Subsidiary, he purchased a modular commercial unit.

A few days later, automated construction drones pieced it together like a set of giant building blocks.

The finished workshop had three floors:

Ground Floor: Reception and client service area, where deals and meetings would be handled.

Second Floor: Office and recreation area, equipped with arcade machines, fitness gear, a private screening room, a Braindance lounge, a small bar, and even a balcony with an ocean view.

Third Floor: Storage for restricted or delicate items—security drones, combat bots, and the like.

As for waste processing, Lin Mo wasn't stupid enough to keep those facilities in-house. The thought of walking into the building and catching the scent of industrial refuse made him cringe.

So, he'd also bought out the greasy food stall next door and converted it into a waste-processing unit. Any scrap materials or salvage brought back from the field would be sorted there instead.

Standing before the building that had cost him so much, Lin Mo couldn't help but feel satisfied.

Sure, the receipts could give anyone a heart attack—but it was worth every Eurodollar.

He wasn't a miser, nor a Scrooge choking on greed. With the simulator's help, he'd accumulated wealth beyond the average man's imagination, and his sense of money had long since changed.

In fact, this spree of "buy, buy, buy" had rekindled a nostalgic kind of joy—

the same feeling he'd once had in old video games, when the "ding" of a cash deposit meant he could suddenly buy every property on the map.

That strange, pure satisfaction.

After surveying the exterior one last time, Lin Mo followed David inside.

The automatic glass doors slid open as the sensors recognized them, granting access without question.

Inside the first-floor lobby, the place was alive with movement. Decorations hung everywhere—streamers, ribbons, balloons floating like clouds, music playing softly in the background.

Tonight marked the eve of the workshop's grand opening, and a celebration was clearly underway.

And there, in the center of it all, was a woman in a deep-blue professional outfit—her red hair gleaming under the lights.

Her lithe figure filled out the tailored suit perfectly; the white sleeves on her arms looked almost luminous, smooth as snow.

Even so, her poised and commanding aura dominated the room—less beautiful woman, more powerful woman.

She was directing the staff with sharp efficiency, ensuring every detail of the setup was flawless.

Money, authority, and ambition—three forces that forged every true executor.

This was the same Gloria who had once risked everything to smuggle used cyberware for her son, who had negotiated directly with Arasaka Academy's headmaster to secure his admission.

Now, as the manager of the new workshop—with Lin Mo's funding, her own handpicked staff, and full operational control—she embodied what happened when a capable person was finally given the right opportunity.

Her transformation was nothing short of remarkable, and Lin Mo couldn't be prouder.

He also noticed another familiar face—the blonde woman Kitagawa had "rescued" some time ago—now acting as Gloria's assistant, carrying out her orders with focused respect.

Completely absorbed in her work, Gloria didn't notice Lin Mo and David enter at first.

David sighed and walked forward, calling out, "Mom, seriously? Me and Lin Mo are standing right here and you didn't even notice."

Gloria blinked, snapping out of her focus. She turned toward her son—then promptly ignored him.

Instead, she smiled warmly at the young man behind him.

"My apologies. I've been busy preparing for tonight's event since noon. I didn't realize it was already time for you two to get out of class."

Her face showed a trace of fatigue; beads of sweat dotted her temples, but beneath the light makeup, she looked radiant—every inch the confident professional.

Lin Mo waved dismissively. "It's fine. You keep working. David and I will head up to the second floor. Everything up there ready?"

"All set," Gloria replied. "Only the first floor still needs some finishing touches."

"Good." Lin Mo smiled, giving her a knowing look.

"Remember, you're the star of tonight."

Gloria's lips curved into a calm, resolute smile.

"I'll keep that in mind, Lin Mo."
