Chapter 101 - Chapter 100: Faraday's Mission

This was Lin Mo's first time walking into the Afterlife bar since crossing into the cyber world.

Looking at the scene in front of him, which was no different from the one in the game, Lin Mo suppressed the slight excitement in his heart and calmly walked into the bar.

At the bar in the center of the room, a woman with wine-red hair was standing behind the counter, looking like an employee of the bar.

Lin Mo recognized her immediately as the bartender from the game.

—Claire Russell.

Without hesitation, the young man confidently sat down at the counter. His skilled and relaxed movements caught the bartender's attention. However, with her vast experience, she quickly recognized that this was his first time at the bar.

A new face, and with that mask to conceal his identity, wearing a bright yellow coat—such a distinctive outfit would be impossible to miss once seen.

"What can I get for you, sir?" Claire walked over, asking kindly.

"Could I have a Johnny Silverhand, Miss Russell?" Lin Mo smiled softly as he spoke.

"You can just call me Claire. I'm sure you've done your homework before coming here, Mister Mysterious Masked Man," she replied with a wider smile. Despite it being their first meeting, she showed no signs of awkwardness and quickly became familiar with him.

"墨影 (Mo Ying)," Lin Mo calmly said his alias.

"Alright, I'll call you Mister Mo then. Welcome to Afterlife Bar, Mister Mo." Claire smiled, and reached under the counter to grab a bottle of liquor and other ingredients.

"Johnny Silverhand, old-fashioned tequila mixed with beer and chili. It's been ages since anyone ordered this. Are you sure you can handle this drink?" Claire asked curiously while mixing the ingredients.

"If I can't handle it, I'll have to anyway. I've been looking forward to this drink for a long time," Lin Mo said with a calm expression, his eyes slightly nostalgic as he recalled the days spent playing the game.

"Brave." Claire complimented with a smile.

Her hands skillfully used tongs to grab a block of ice, placing it into a shot glass. The transparent glass with the transparent square ice made a crisp sound, which made Lin Mo think of the phrase "when the silver bottle shatters and the water bursts out." As the tequila poured in, the glass began to take on a light yellow color. Under the bar's bright lights, a Johnny Silverhand was born.

"Your Johnny Silverhand, 300 euros," Claire placed the glass in front of him.

Staring at the small shot glass, despite now being financially independent, Lin Mo couldn't help but silently grumble about the greedy pricing.

This tiny glass of alcohol was worth as much as the average person's wage for a few days.

This thought didn't just reflect his current situation, but also mirrored his past experiences in the game.

Now, this famous drink from the game had turned into reality, and even though Lin Mo was allergic to alcohol, he went for it.

He paid and took the glass, downing it in one go. The taste was sweet and rich, but the spiciness of the chili quickly burned from his mouth all the way down his esophagus.

This was the taste of Johnny Silverhand.

Terrible!

Lin Mo, who had never been accustomed to drinking, suppressed the urge to inhale, enduring the discomfort and heat in his mouth. He gave a calm, albeit forced, evaluation:

"Not bad."

"Many people don't like this flavor. Mister Mo, you have quite a unique taste. Would you like another?" Claire continued to smile.

"No, I have other matters to attend to. I won't keep you from your work," Lin Mo stood up swiftly, nodding at Claire as he turned to head toward a nearby booth.

Claire watched him for a moment, then smiled casually and went to greet other customers.

After walking around the booths in the bar, Lin Mo finally found Maine and Sasha waiting for him.

The two were sitting across from each other, engaged in conversation.

Lin Mo's arrival caught their attention. Maine waved and smiled, "Lin Mo, over here."

The young man, still wearing the mask and the newly acquired legendary jacket, sat between them, right next to Sasha.

"The mask is cool. But the yellow outfit—was that for disguise?" Sasha smiled lightly, complimenting Lin Mo.

Lin Mo smiled back and casually replied, "I really like the color of this outfit. How do I look? I'm not too late, am I?"

"Not at all. Faraday hasn't arrived yet. He's stuck in traffic, but I must say, your timing is perfect. Sasha and I have been sitting here drinking for ages," Maine gestured to the bottles they'd finished.

Lin Mo frowned slightly and said in a low voice, "There's still a mission tonight. You two shouldn't drink too much; it'll affect the task."

Maine chuckled heartily and patted Lin Mo's shoulder, leaning a little closer. "Relax, this little bit of alcohol isn't a problem. Even Sasha can drink all of it by herself."

Lin Mo raised an eyebrow, his gaze shifting between Maine and Sasha, before uncertainly asking, "You both have internal cybernetic implants?"

In this day and age, getting the ability to drink without getting drunk was incredibly easy. You could just implant some internal cybernetics to help break down alcohol, and you could treat it like drinking water.

"Occasionally, we do. After working in this line for so long, it's impossible not to get injured. If you damage an organ, getting a new kidney or something is just a normal part of the job," Maine replied nonchalantly, not wanting to linger on the topic.

"Let me know what you want to drink, and I'll talk to the bartender," he added.

"Soda is fine. Juice would be even better," Lin Mo replied without hesitation.

"I'll get it for you," Sasha said, standing up. She took a few steps toward the bar, but then stopped abruptly.

She didn't say anything, slowly returned, and sat back down beside Lin Mo.

Maine and Lin Mo looked over and saw that the man in the red suit—Faraday—had just arrived at the Afterlife Bar, bumping into Sasha face-to-face.

Faraday's face was grim, his eyes dark, scanning the three of them at the booth. Two strong men wearing only thin vests followed behind him.

"Is everyone here?" Faraday asked, his tone deep.

"Everyone who needs to be here is here, Faraday. Anything else to discuss for tonight's mission?" Maine's smile faded, and he looked at Faraday as he sat down across from him.

Faraday's gaze lingered on Lin Mo for a moment, then he said, "Your new recruit?"

"Yes, he'll be helping with tonight's mission," Maine replied vaguely.

"You didn't tell anyone else about this assignment, did you?" Faraday folded his hands and slightly lowered his head, his eyes narrowing as he stared at Maine, like a snake watching its prey.

"No, I know the rules," Maine replied briefly.

Faraday nodded slightly, then lightly clapped his hands. The attendant placed a box on the table, and Faraday pressed a code to open it.

Inside the box were a thumb-sized token and an electronic device that resembled a walkie-talkie, along with a small chip.

"The security access token for the BioTech Building and a signal jammer. It can block specific frequencies for 20 minutes. During this time, the building's security system won't trigger any alarms. I hope you don't let me down," Faraday explained.

"20 minutes? That's even longer than I expected," Maine said, his face brightening a bit.

"Do you know the exact plan of action?" Faraday pushed the box toward Maine, crossing his legs as he asked.

"It's simple. With the access token, we just need Sasha to infiltrate, disable the cameras, and then head to the top floor to download the data. We'll have enough time to make a round trip in 20 minutes," Maine said confidently.

Lin Mo sat quietly in the corner, but he couldn't help but smirk inside.

If it weren't for the simulation showing him the details, who would have expected tonight's events to take such a turn?

Still, Maine's plan wasn't wrong. If they had 20 minutes, the mission would be incredibly easy.

"Are you sure the jammer will block the signal for 20 minutes?" Lin Mo asked, unable to stop himself.

Faraday immediately turned his gaze to Lin Mo, his four eyes scanning him. Lin Mo felt the uncomfortable pressure of being stared at like a fly under a spider's eye.

"I said 20 minutes, and it'll be 20 minutes. When you're working with me, you just follow the plan and don't ask too many questions," Faraday said coldly.

This middleman... he's way too arrogant... Lin Mo thought to himself, annoyed.

Lin Mo decided not to push further. It was clear that this middleman was self-centered, and asking more questions would be useless.

"I've said all I need to say. If there's nothing else, I'll go back and wait for your good news," Faraday said, seemingly eager to leave without wasting any more time.

"We'll get the information to you as soon as possible," Maine said dismissively, not wanting to chat any longer with this middleman.

Lin Mo watched Faraday's retreating figure, surprised.

If he wasn't mistaken, when Faraday stood up, he seemed to have brushed his hand over the thigh of one of the male attendants.

This guy... could he be gay...?

Lin Mo suddenly felt a wave of disgust.
