The Satori sliced through the gray night like a blade, speeding across the skies toward Night City's North Oak district.
Upon entering the area, greenery—rarely seen elsewhere in the city—began to line both sides of the road. The streets were spotless, and grand estates reminiscent of medieval nobility stood tall, their lights glowing beneath the moonless sky.
Lin Mo calmly gripped the steering wheel with one hand. The needle on the dashboard inched dangerously close to the far right. (Note: Do not attempt if your Reflex attribute is under 10.)
At its current speed, the Satori could take Lin Mo to any part of Night City in under two hours—provided there wasn't a traffic jam.
Before installing his speed and reflex cyberware, he might have felt bound by traffic laws. But now, with these implants enhancing his capabilities, time itself felt like a mere suggestion. Traffic regulations became a fleeting illusion, easily ignored.
Of course, Lin Mo was pushing the Satori to its limit because time was running short.
After wrapping up commission details with Mann and Sasha, he had lingered at the restaurant for a bit, celebrating with them.
Though part of him wanted to pull an all-nighter with Mann's crew, he ultimately couldn't afford to.
Xu Wanxue had granted him the freedom to mingle with edge-runners—but that didn't mean he could disregard her concern. Staying out all night would only cause her worry.
So, after bidding everyone goodbye, Lin Mo returned to the parking lot, climbed into the Satori, and revved toward home.
He glanced at the in-dash display. The time glowed in the corner: 22:32.
At this hour, North Oak's streets were silent. Any of the area's corporate bigwigs returning home now would likely be flying in luxury AVs.
A few minutes later, the familiar gates of his home came into view, prompting him to ease off the accelerator.
The smart gate recognized his biometric signature and smoothly opened without delay, letting the Satori roll into the estate seamlessly.
Lin Mo pulled into the garage, adjusted his outfit, gathered his belongings, and made his way toward the villa.
As the saying goes—"Treat someone differently after just three days."
Only a week ago, he'd been refused entry, nearly evicted by his sister.
Now? He could come and go as he pleased, his status in the household clearly elevated.
In truth, it was Xu Wanxue's deep affection that enabled this. She didn't want to discourage or disappoint her little brother. Having already promised to support him, she no longer scolded him for his choices.
Inside, the villa was warmly lit.
Silence hung in the air. As Lin Mo stepped through the entryway, the grand living room greeted him. Polished marble floors mirrored the ceiling's starry lights, and a soft couch cradled a lone figure.
She was turned away from him, her long black hair cascading down like a waterfall. A holo-TV flickered in front of her.
Lin Mo slowed his pace, moving quietly.
As he drew near, he saw Xu Wanxue's peaceful profile—his sister had dozed off on the couch, likely worn out from worry.
He picked up the remote, switched off the TV, and gently scooped her up, one arm beneath her legs, the other supporting her back. Effortlessly, he turned and carried her upstairs.
Her eyebrows twitched slightly, though Lin Mo didn't notice—he was focused on reaching the bedroom.
But as he stepped onto the second floor, he stopped dead in his tracks.
The upstairs entertainment space, typically pristine and elegant, was in utter disarray. Empty liquor bottles littered the floor. Vomit stained the tiles, still uncleaned. Game consoles were running, their displays stuck on a mission loading screen.
What shocked him the most, though, was the red-haired woman sprawled across the hallway—completely unbothered by dignity or decorum. Her figure, curvy and generous, was unmistakable.
Liu Ruoying—the implant specialist who had helped install his bioware.
Why was she passed out here?
Lin Mo was bewildered.
They had more than enough rooms—this massive villa was only occupied by the two siblings. The unused guest rooms alone could run a small hotel.
If the redhead hadn't sleepily scratched her own backside mid-dream, Lin Mo might have thought she was dead.
The implant specialist lay snoring on the hallway carpet, her hips tilted upward in an unintentionally provocative position.
To Lin Mo, it was like a slumbering tiger in his path. This modern-day Wu Song was momentarily paralyzed.
Should he kick her out of the way? Or carefully sidestep her?
While pondering this absurd dilemma, the woman in his arms stirred.
He looked down—and met a pair of warm, amused eyes.
Her fingers brushed against his cheek, her gaze unwavering. She smiled playfully and lightly slapped his cheek in mock annoyance.
"You little punk, finally decided to come home?"
"Something came up. I got delayed," Lin Mo replied vaguely, glossing over the night's violent spree.
Xu Wanxue didn't press. She assumed he'd been out being his usual troublemaking self.
No way could she imagine that her brother had spent the evening cutting down dozens of people—his katana spilling enough blood to drown a city block.
Ever since his signal had gone dark, she thought he'd simply wandered around. As long as he returned safe, she could tolerate the occasional late night.
"Want me to put you down?" Lin Mo asked softly.
"Don't let go," she replied, arms tightening around his neck. "I don't want to touch the floor yet."
He said nothing, just held her tighter.
After a beat, he looked toward the redhead on the floor and asked, hesitant:
"That lady—why's she passed out on the carpet?"
"Oh, she got drunk with me. Then, for some reason, decided she wanted to peek inside your room. Your security system zapped her unconscious. So she just… stayed there," Xu Wanxue said casually, without a trace of sympathy for her friend.
