Chapter 22 - A Godless World

t Hours after Practical Classes

Nurse' Office

Dean and December were playing rock, paper, scissors to pass the time.

Dean was still recovering from his fight, while Decey was blatently scot-free, and chose to skip the rest of the classes.

"25-0. Good job Decey. I guess you're not good at every thing. " Dean gloated, as he flinched in pain from the very act.

"Man don't. It's been one hell of a day. "

The nurse's office had a smell vaguely similar to sanitizer. It was packed with around twenty hospital beds, covered in blue and white sheets.

"So why are you here? Didn't you infamously beat Zil with 0 injuries? " Dean asked.

"I actually don't know. Apparently I fainted right after the fight. That explains the wire that's feeding who knows what into my brain."

Decey responded, playing with the silicon wire attatched to a cotton sticker, placed on his temple.

"No offense but, how did you do that with those lanky muscles? " Dean laughed.

Decey brought down his hand on his shoulder, which made Dean shout in pain.

"You fucker... That hurt.. " Dean whined, attempting to clutch his shoulder.

Decey pointed to his head.

"This is how I won. "

That and my recklessness off firing off 3 ringularities.

"Oh, by the way. Congrats on beating him. I guess you're way stronger than I thought you were. You and Heet both.

Oh no...

Here comes the devil.... " Dean began to shake in fear.

The nurse approached Decey, who yanked the wires that was connected to his forehead without warning.

He yelped in pain.

" Treatment over. Go. "

Decey checked to see if he was bleeding and looked back at her sarcastically.

"Not a woman of many words, eh?"

She growled which made Decey practically teleport out of the sanitizer reeking place, waving back at Dean.

"You unwrapped the bandages." She said in a robotic tone.

Dean nervously chuckled, afraid for his life.

"Yeah.. We were playing Rock Paper scissors, and I couldn't really move my fingers so... "

Dean had never felt fear as much as he felt right now.

"Hehe... You sure you want to hold your scalpel now...? "

"The Gredors. This tribe that lives in the outskirts of Niels, towards the Last Plate, has adapted to living near water sources that are deeply polluted.

Can anyone tell me why? "

Someone raised her hand. It was a girl Heet recognized. She once 'accidentally' pushed her in the dorm halls before recognizing her as a Prime.

"The Last Plate is highly corrosive due to the amount of Negetive Domain that radiates throughout the area. " She said proudly.

Professor Hans gave her a thumbs up.

"Nice one Cali. How bout you answer without peeking at Aria's notes?

Anyways.

That's all for the previous semester stuff we had to touch up on.

Let me tell you something.

My own personal thoughts. "

Professor Hans walked out his marbled pedestal and began pacing along the elliptical dias.

"This world, no, this universe, was made by two properties:

To create and to destroy.

This concept has been adapted to our world.

Everything around us has been destroyed and rearranged.

Even us.

We're all floating pieces of space dust that happened to be formed.

All of us at our core, are atoms, vibrating more times than anyone can imagine.

But what do we have that seperates us from everything that has ever been made? "

Hans pointed to his temple.

"Something that was unprecedented throughout the history of our Known Universe.

Conciousness.

Those clumps of space dust somehow attained the ability to think for itself.

To adapt to the world.

To live.

To be free. "

The words began to render the classroom utterly silent, entranced by Professor Hans's lecture.

His eyes were enamored by his own thoughts and words.

His navy blue eyes glistening in the sunlight, as he looked out the window. His rough and messy hair causing the light rays to split and cast several shadows on his pale face.

"Treaf." He asked.

Heet stood up instantly, still trying to understand what his point was.

"The power to destroy. Is it something that should exist? "

"No, Professor. I think it'd be too dangerous on the wrong hands. "

Heet answered politely, trying to fight between if she was annoyed or amazed from the class.

"What about the power of Creation? "

Heet thought for a couple of seconds.

"I think that would be okay.. "

Hans looked down, shaking his head, as if he didn't know the answer himself.

"For a husband who's wife had been brutally murdered by a serial killer, what would he seek between these two powers?

The power to destroy the culprit? "

"I-" Heet suttered, as she was completely invested in this scenario for multiple reasons.

"Would you trust such a man with the power of Creation then?

Surely he would use it for good right? "

Not one person dared to answer, as their guess was good as everyone else's.

Including Hans.

"Are both not equally dangerous?

We humans kill and hunt animals to live.

We try to justify that, saying it's Justice.

Saying that we had no other option but to kill.

At the same time,

We create things using what the world gives us.

We have created ways of annihlating diseases perfectly.

We protected society from Annihlation.

But,

Does that justify us killing?

Just because we saved lives by creating, we have also destroyed many other lives..

Does that mean we can justify using those powers? "

Hans returned to his pedestal, clutching it as he organized his thoughts.

"People say God created this universe.

On that scale, we call something with omnipotent power, God.

On our world?

We are the Gods. "

Silence resonated within the huge classroom.

"I wanted to tell you this because, being a Defined is the same as having an influence to this world in a manner no one can achieve.

That is the weight of the power you all have.

There are good people in this room.

There are also bad people.

Isn't that incredible?

In this classroom, there are people who can choose both paths.

History could be rewritten by people in this room.

Everyone is unique.

Someone would want to save others.

Someone would want to make others kneel.

That's all upto you.

I shall not discriminate anyone on the basis of what path they choose.

But.

After achieving everything you could ever dream of..

After all the hardships you went through, or all the hardships you inflicted on others..

Ask yourself..

'Am I able to justify the path I took? ' "

>>

Decey wanted to sleep.

He didn't want answers.

The deja vu is strong in this one.

After the incident, Decey had requested permission to use LYDA during the after hours.

He began to play around with his repertoire, and began to notice certain side effects.

The most surprising one was Ringularity.

The inference he made of the pathway distorting space-time turned out to be true.

Between two Ringularity's, there was a gravitational link, completely seperate from the usual dimensions, which allows the pathways to act as wormholes.

He had not experienced with this concept beforehand, due to the prevailing phobia of destroying the world with a possible black hole.

No one can understand Quantum Physics.

Should probably stay that way.

He can use Singularity around 2 to 3 times before his arm bloodies up and is rendered useless.

Another issue he pointed out was that whenever he'd use that move, the Set Theory Glyphs on his right forearm would "fill up" with Domain from right to left.

He was working on a theory regarding that but wanted to hold it off.

He did skip several classes after all.

Decey was sitting on the top bunk of his bed,

dangling his legs.

He had come to an unfortunate realisation during the match with Zil.

The only reason he won was because of sheer coincidence and the fact that he had Exponentiation.

If it were a battle of Domain Manipulation, he wouldn't be far behind.

If it was with Domain Boost, he would be a lost cause, as evident in the race.

Decey shook his head.

I'm basically weak.

Maybe not in the eyes of others, but that's not what being Strong means.

What I'm missing is proficiency.

I have to catch up.

That fight with Zil showed it all.

What my Augen Gottes showed me, gives me shivers even right now.

That one image of Zil, covered in that murky Domain.

Just like him.

It suddenly hit Decey.

He had a fight with two strangers, skipped classes the entire time, had a semi date with Heet, and won against the strongest first year.

"That and Andrew.. "

All in the same day.

I swear to fucking god, this had to have been the most eventful first day, anyone has ever had.

Decey's mind went back to the scene in the bathroom.

Something after the fight changed him.

Decey felt very uneasy, as if he was being watched.

"Never lose yourself, huh?

I don't even know who I am anymore."

He flopped his back on the bed.

He looked around here and there before turning off the lights.

"Atleast he'll be out for a couple of days." He thought, throwing an extra pillow down to the lower bunk.

"Dean."

"Professor, I can see you trying not to laugh."

Professor Ash's cheeks looked awfully like a stuffed squirrel, only that it had to have been a special blue species.

Ash exhaled and calmed down. He smiled at Dean.

"I'm glad to see you're okay, Dean."

Dean, still recovering from his surgery, where the only benefit gained was his life and the loss of 40% of his bandages.

"Turns out that I had some internal bleeding. Something about my ribs poking through my lungs...

yada yada yada...

Fluids filling up lungs... " Dean drifted off.

"Spare me the medical story. It went well and that's what matters. "

Dean slyly smiles.

"You're scared of her too, eh? "

[PTSD FLASHBACK INITIATED]

"YOU'RE WEAK. "

"PATHETIC... "

"WHY DON'T YOU SEND SOMEONE YOURSELF HUH? FOR A FUCKING CHANGE? "

"I KNOW YOUR BODY MORE THAN MY OWN HUSBAND FOR FUCKS SAKE. "

"I'M GOING TO MAKE YOUR INJURIES PERMANENT IF YOU COME BACK HERE AGAIN. "

[PTSD FLASHBACK TERMINATED FORCIBLY]

Ash shudderd in fear for a solid minute as he talked with Dean.

"You've grown strong, Dean. " He said proudly.

"Proud? Look at me. I'm a freaking mess.. " Dean frowns.

"You're still one of the best students I've had. Besides, your opponent and roommate aren't normal students. "

Dean looks at his master.

"I didn't tell you about Decey being my roommate.. "

It took Dean a while to figure it out.

"You messed with the dorm plans. " He accused.

"Heh. You got me. " Ash said as he held his hands up.

Dean sat in silent for a while.

"You think you can train me harder?

Surely you don't want him to steam roll through the ranks of Zahl.

Besides..

You saved me that day.

My mom and my brother.

I'll give you the inspiration you need, Professor Ash. "

Ash remembered how Dean used to say he felt no motivation to get stronger.

It all reminded him of how his father used to absuse and manipulate him.

Wasn't he the same?

He wanted to prove Lye wrong.

To prove that the kid he brought in had less talent than Dean.

Ash smiled.

"Focus on healing up.

What you want to achieve isn't that far ahead.

With me? I'll blow your expectations.

So show me your best."

>>

[Professor Ash's room]

1 hour after meeting Dean

He sat at his desk, rewinding back to the key moments of the duel.

His face was all scrunched up, his brows showing.

At the same time, he had never felt this inspired.

"The battle ended so quickly. Yet, I felt that so much happened.

Zil using his Trump card, December using very unusual attacks.

It was all brain food for Ash.

Especially the finale.

No one understood what had occured then.

Zil's back had completely been torn apart, while December struggled to stay concious.

Out of more than one thousend students, there are only a several students Ash had noted down in diary.

There were dividers labeled from Pathetic to

"That girl, Heet. She is equally talented.

To learn Mobius just by looking at it...

And that kid.. "

"He must have some crazy Function like Kela..

I even tried to aquire her son, but he wasn't interested.

But this...

December Oris... "

Ash thought back to what Lye said.

About December having the capacity to change the world.

It slowly dawned upon the young ambitious Professor that what he said might very well be true.

Ash finished writing in his diary and left the room.

The gusts of wind forced open the pages.
