Leo felt sorry for her and held her hand tightly. "I'm sorry. If I had met you earlier, you wouldn't need to suffer."
At that, Zoey lightly pinched his cheek and smiled. "What are you apologizing for? I don't see those six years as awful. I think it was a blessing to be able to watch the children grow up. From them learning how to crawl to telling me they made new friends in kindergarten, every step of that process brought me endless joy."
Leo felt a little sad. "I didn't experience any of that."
Even though he loved the twins, it was undeniable that he wasn't there for their first six years in this world.
Zoey comforted him, "They won't blame you."
If it wasn't for the twins, it was likely that their relationship wouldn't have developed the way it did.
"I'll blame myself, though." He glanced at the sleeping twins with guilt in his eyes. "If it was possible, I wanted to be by their side since they were born, so I could see them grow up as well."
