Michael leaned back in the chair beside me, his arm resting along the side of my bed as if claiming space without really meaning to. Or maybe he did mean to. I couldn't tell anymore with him. He had this way of making everything feel effortless, his quiet presence, his timing, even the way he looked at me like I was something more than just another patient.
"You missed me, huh?" he teased, raising a brow, lips twitching into a subtle smirk.
I rolled my eyes, hugging the blanket closer to my chest. "Don't let it get to your head. It was probably just... a hormonal moment."
"Oh, I see," he said, leaning a little closer, eyes glinting. "So I'm a hormonal fantasy now?"
I smacked his arm, laughing. "Stop twisting my words!"
He chuckled softly, that rare, warm laugh that always made something flutter deep inside me. "I'm just trying to understand where I stand. I mean, one day I'm your doctor, the next I'm part of some emotional daydream…"
