Ariel had been told that the most likely reason for her not being able to remember anything was that her mind was trying to protect her. That it knew that she needed a bit of shielding. But the doctors had assured her that there was a huge chance that the memories would come back on their own.
When she had been told that, Ariel had been fully expecting to remember bits and pieces. She had thought that it would be one of those things where she heard a sound and it immediately brought back a piece of her memory. She'd thought that maybe when she was strong enough and held a knife in her hands, she would see the gleaming blade and she would be assaulted by a recollection.
