"Tanjiro, ignore him! Let's go inside and raid this giant bug's nest!" Inosuke urged, showing no interest in the fireman.
Inosuke entered the combustion chamber first. The walls were covered in tumors, creating a chilling atmosphere of fear and oppression.
"This… could this be the thing's mouth?" Inosuke muttered to himself.
Meanwhile, Tanjiro told the fireman, "Go hide in another carriage. Leave this to us."
Tanjiro then entered the combustion chamber.
The fireman's panicked expression turned sinister and terrifying. He crept towards Tanjiro, clutching a small knife he'd been carrying.
When he was half a meter from Tanjiro, the fireman plunged the knife into Tanjiro's back.
Tanjiro's heightened senses had warned him of the approaching danger. He turned around, his hand reaching for his sword, momentarily freezing upon seeing the fireman.
This hesitation allowed the fireman's knife to pierce Tanjiro's abdomen.
The fireman, consumed by murderous intent, attempted to strike again.
But Tanjiro didn't give him the chance. As the fireman tried to withdraw his knife, Tanjiro grabbed his hand.
Tanjiro's grip was far stronger than the fireman's. The fireman cried out in pain, "Aaah! Let go!"
"Why did you hurt me?!" Tanjiro demanded angrily.
"Because I don't want to be human anymore! I want to transcend humanity, to be immortal!" the fireman replied maniacally, his eyes wild with obsession.
