As Haganezuka reached Tanjiro, he lunged with his knives. Tanjiro, startled, sidestepped, narrowly avoiding the blades. Haganezuka, carried by his momentum, stopped several feet behind Tanjiro.
Tanjiro, breaking out in a cold sweat, stammered, "Haganezuka-san… what's wrong?"
Haganezuka, controlling his temper, slowly turned, angrily shouting, "You brat! You broke my knife!"
"Unforgivable!"
Understanding the reason for his anger, Tanjiro quickly apologized, "I'm so sorry! Please forgive me!"
"But Haganezuka-san, let me explain. I fought a member of the Twelve Kizuki. They were incredibly strong, and that's why the blade broke. I almost died!"
Haganezuka ignored Tanjiro's explanation, approaching him and repeatedly poking his cheeks. "The blade breaking has nothing to do with that! It's all your fault! You're too weak! That's why it broke! My knives don't break otherwise!"
His anger escalating, he poked faster, then slapped Tanjiro across the face, sending him spinning.
"So, I'm going to kill you!" Haganezuka lunged again with his knives.
Tanjiro fled to avoid being injured. Inosuke, seeing the chase, joined in, "Are you playing tag? I want to play too!"
Tanjiro ran into the Butterfly Mansion, followed by Haganezuka. Shinobu, amused by the sight, quipped, "Is this some kind of special training?"
While chasing Tanjiro, Haganezuka explained to Shinobu, "This brat broke my knife! I'll kill him to avenge it!"
Finally, Tanjiro, fueled by his youth and stamina, wore Haganezuka down. He stopped, turning to the panting swordsmith. "Haganezuka-san, you must be calmer now! The knife wasn't broken by me; it was Lower Five of the Twelve Kizuki! They were incredibly strong!"
Haganezuka panted, "I understand. Help me up."
Tanjiro helped him to his feet.
Later, Tanjiro, Inosuke, Haganezuka, and the other swordsmith gathered in a guest room at the Butterfly Mansion, served tea by Hidden members.
The other swordsmith explained to Tanjiro, "Please don't mind him. Haganezuka-san is a passionate man; he loves his knives more than anything."
Tanjiro replied, "I understand. I understand Haganezuka-san's feelings."
