"I'll get some external wound medicine to treat your external injuries first. As for your internal injuries, you'll need to take some herbal medicine to aid recovery," Aoi said before leaving the ward to prepare the necessary medicine for Tanjiro.
After Aoi left, Tanjiro looked at Inosuke, who was unusually quiet. Was he still unconscious?
"Inosuke! Inosuke!" Tanjiro called out.
"Ugh…what?" Inosuke's voice was low and hoarse.
Tanjiro, relieved to hear Inosuke's voice, asked, "Inosuke, what's wrong? Why are you speaking like that?"
Zenitsu explained, "His throat's messed up, I think. He wouldn't stop yelling after he woke up, and he ended up screaming himself hoarse."
"Screaming himself hoarse? Inosuke is such a klutz! I'm dying laughing at how subdued he is now! Hehehe…he totally deserves it!" Zenitsu couldn't stop laughing at Inosuke's self-inflicted injury.
Just as Zenitsu's laughter reached its peak, Kanao, still sitting on his back, resumed applying the medicine.
Zenitsu's laughter instantly turned to pained groans.
"Ow, ow, ow…Kanao-chan, couldn't you have warned me?" Zenitsu complained.
Tanjiro finally understood why Inosuke was so unusually quiet.
"I'm sorry, I'm so weak," Inosuke mumbled dejectedly.
Perhaps his apology stemmed from experiencing defeat for the first time, or perhaps from Zenitsu's mocking yet relatable comments. Maybe he could only express his frustration through self-harm, screaming himself hoarse.
Tanjiro encouraged him, "Cheer up, Inosuke, that's not like you! It's my fault for not being there to fight alongside you! If I had been, we definitely would have defeated that Spider Demon!"
Zenitsu also tried to boost Inosuke's spirits. "You did great! You're amazing! You survived! As long as you're alive, you have a chance to become even stronger!"
Ryuji, exhausted from the journey, quietly fell asleep on an empty bed in the room, without saying anything to Inosuke.
Inosuke remained silent.
Aoi Kanzaki returned with a medical cart, carrying a bowl of steaming, foul-smelling medicinal concoction.
"Kanao, give this medicine to the blonde boy," Aoi instructed.
Kanao hopped off Zenitsu's back, put on her shoes, and picked up the bowl of medicine.
Aoi then pushed the cart to Tanjiro's bedside and began treating his wounds.
"What's this? It smells terrible! I know it's going to taste awful! I'm not drinking it!" Zenitsu wrinkled his nose in disgust.
Kanao sighed; Zenitsu never cooperated with his treatment.
