[System User: Ethan Hades, unable to be registered in Akashic Records.]

Ethan's eyes widened when he saw the lines of words appearing before his eyes.

He tried to touch them, only for his hand to go through, not touching the text suspended in the air.

Watching the game-like screen before him, Ethan didn't panic. After all, he'd read novels about things like this.

"S—Status."

A reddish screen appeared before him, containing information about him — just like he expected.

[Name: Ethan HadesRank: MortalAffinity: Darkness, Space, IceUnique Skill: ImmortalityQuest: None]

'This… this is the same as the status screen in the novel <>,' Ethan thought.

He stared dumbfoundedly at the status window… eventually, he had to come to terms with the fact that he's not in the novel he read some time ago.

He finally understood why he had no internet access in the past few days, and why he was in unfamiliar surroundings…

In the world of the novel <>, only Awakeners who awakened their god bloodline could access the internet, which is known as the Akashic Records.

Ethan grabbed his smartphone, then navigated to the Akashic Records app… Of course, this app wasn't present on his phone before he awakened. It mysteriously downloaded and installed itself the moment he awakened.

Using his device as a receiver, Ethan navigated to the Akashic Record — a replica of the internet in his former world.

Ethan started searching the internet for hours.

'Fuck, I'm really in <> novel world. Fuck this.'

He massaged his temples.

'Anyway, why was I not able to awaken any god bloodline? No wait, the bloodline did awaken, but it couldn't register…'

'In other words, the Akashic Record had no access to or knows nothing about what my bloodline is…'

'Interesting!'

'Now, who is Ethan Hades, and why is he appearing in the novel? Or who is this person I'm possessing right now? He's not in the game, nor is he mentioned in the novel.'

Ethan asked himself as he got up and stared at himself in the mirror… The Ethan he was seeing was too handsome for a guy if judged by Earth's standards. However, it's not too strange — after all, every Awakened in this world isn't ugly. As one's rank improves, so does their appearance.

'I'll find out along the way.'

Ethan summoned the status screen again.

'Uh? Immortality?'

Ethan clicked on the Immortality tab, and additional information about the unique skill was displayed.

[Immortality: This skill allows you to revive when you die. It uses an Immortality Token to revive you. If you run out of Immortality Tokens, you will die a true death and cannot be revived.

Immortality Token: 1

You get access to borrow power from ??? after reviving for 30 seconds.]

'Interesting… with this unique skill, I could change my life and not live like I did in my previous one.'

Ethan thought about his former life. While everyone was making it — his friends especially — he was still unable to improve his life. He wasn't the smartest in the group, nor was he athletic. While others' talents shined and took them to greater places, Ethan was unable to do anything. He spent his life playing video games and reading online novels to escape reality.

He was an average man…

Perhaps the lowest among average men.

Ethan's gaze shifted to the Quest section… If he wanted to grow stronger, then the only way was to complete quests.

He stared at the quest section, hoping it would ring and he would have his first quest.

'The first quest should deal with strengthening myself, like doing 100 pushups, 100 squats, 20 km running, climbing 20 steps.'

'It shouldn't be that hard. If it's daily, I can split it and complete the training in 3 hours.'

'But body strengthening is not enough. The unique skill says a lot. Reviving is good… but also bad. It's anything but easy.'

Ethan massaged the back of his neck with one hand, then sighed.

'Fuck, if there's no quest, I'll go out and search for ingredients to improve this weak body.'

Ethan started packing his backpack. His body — or the body he possessed — was weak, weaker compared to a mundane man. But Ethan didn't feel like it was a threat, since the body could be fixed by taking rare potions.

And as a reader with future knowledge, Ethan knew exactly how to make the ingredients to cure his weak body.

In this world, bloodline determines one's future. His weak body might be a result of his generation having diluted their bloodlines with that of mortals — or some unknown being.

After packing everything, Ethan was about to step out of his room when the door opened.

"Young Master, are you planning on disobeying the Head of House's order?"

The one who entered was the family butler. He had been bringing Ethan food since he arrived in this world. As for the order… Ethan knew nothing about it.

'I inherited no memory from this guy, so what order could it be?'

'Oh… I packed a backpack, and to a normal person, it seems I'm heading out. Does that mean I'm grounded?'

"I cannot allow you to leave the house, Young Master."

Ethan threw his hands up in consternation…

Just when he thought he'd be able to cure this body's disease, he was grounded.

'It's not surprising though. Someone with this type of body ought to be grounded… I mean, prevented from moving around.'

'Uh?'

Suddenly, Ethan tilted sideways. He followed his instincts, but he was stopped when he felt a sharp pain coming from his right arm.

Remaining calm and expressionless, Ethan looked at his right arm — and there…

There was a black dagger lodged in it.

Ethan looked upward. The butler drew another dagger from his belt, then flicked his wrist. Before Ethan could react, another dagger lodged into his left arm — and then his legs.

Surprisingly, Ethan didn't scream. He blinked a couple of times, as if confused… After the pain he felt from his right arm, Ethan didn't feel any pain.

"You want to kill me?"

The butler didn't respond to Ethan's question. He just kept staring at him.

"Oh… I remember now. You aren't my family butler — you're an assassin… I guess one of our family members hired you to kill me."

Ethan nodded to himself, as if confirming what he'd just said.

The assassin's face changed slightly as he stared at the teenager before him. The teenager was too calm, which made him hesitate… and he was also able to guess he was an assassin hired by someone in his family — which meant he knew he would be assassinated.

"If you aren't our butler, then you must be the Night Watcher… no, that's your alias. Your real name should be Charlotte Gray."

The assassin froze. He couldn't believe he was exposed by a mere teenager. One had to say — he was the most secretive assassin in the world. Acting as a policewoman by day and an assassin by night, she completely separated her identities.

She used different skills for her daily job in the police station and another skill for assassination. In fact, she was a police mage, and mages are known to detest close combat and weapon wielding.

"You alright?"

The assassin snapped out of her stupor, her eyes wide with fear.

[You have survived 10 seconds. +1 to base stats.]

"You know a little about me? How? When? Why should I not kill you?"

"Know a little?"

Ethan shook his head.

'Fuck… it's over, it's over. Any slight mistake here could cost me my life. Thankfully, I haven't forgotten the novel content… Hell, why did I encounter the Night Watcher so early?'
