"What did she mean by that?" Damien asked, his brows furrowed, eyes fixed on mine.
I stared at him, the weight of Selene's smirk still clinged to my mind like smoke. My lips parted, but I didn't know what to say. Because I didn't know what she meant either.
"I—I don't know," I muttered. My eyes flickered to the hallway where Selene had disappeared, the clinking of her heels dissappearing slowly.
Xavier remained silent and looked at me one last time before leaving us both alone.
Damien exhaled sharply, jaw clenching. "She was bluffing. Trying to rile us up."
"Maybe," I said, but the seed of doubt was already rooted. And I hated that it was working.
"I am going to run DNA tests on Selene myself, and see if..." He paused and I could see the hesitation and hurt in his eyes. Even though he did not love Selene, there could be no way he had no love for his unborn child.
