Chapter 129– Kitagawa Gen vs. Ōtsutsuki Genshiki? They're Gods!
"The Shinobi World sure has been restless lately."
At a training field in Konoha, Kakashi, Guy, and Jiraiya were sitting together with Kitagawa Gen.
In the distance, Naruto, Sasuke, and Neji were training as a three-man squad.
Jiraiya sighed as he rubbed his still slightly swollen face, watching the young trio.
"Whether it's the Akatsuki or that mysterious Ōtsutsuki Genshiki, both are serious destabilizing forces."
Gen gave an awkward smile at the side, while Kakashi nodded solemnly.
"You're right. Especially that Ōtsutsuki Genshiki. He's specifically targeting the Nine-Tails' chakra. Even Obito and Itachi suffered crushing defeats at his hands. That guy…"
"…is terrifying and troublesome," Kakashi finished.
Even Guy couldn't hold back from commenting. He had sparred with Kakashi countless times without ever getting a definitive win or loss. But this time, even Kakashi had suffered such a devastating defeat.
But soon enough, Guy's eyes lit up with excitement.
"But that's the kind of opponent that gets my blood boiling! Constantly challenging the strong — that's true youth!"
Gen, Jiraiya, and Kakashi all twitched at the corners of their mouths as they stared at Guy's sparkling teeth.
"Jiraiya-sama," Gen asked, changing the topic, "didn't you say you were going to Mount Myōboku? Any results?"
Kakashi massaged his forehead before turning toward Jiraiya. "Yeah, did anything come of that?"
Jiraiya visibly shuddered at the memory.
That day, the overwhelming flood of natural chakra had shaken all of Mount Myōboku. The sky seemed to roar. The sheer pressure of it made his scalp go numb. And being so close to the source, he'd been blown away almost instantly.
In all his years, Jiraiya had never seen a reaction that intense — even from the Great Toad Sage.
He had met the old sage many times. The sage had always seemed mysterious, gentle, nearsighted, and somewhat senile. Honestly, he always looked like he might fall asleep and never wake up again.
But this time, Jiraiya truly realized how terrifying the Great Toad Sage could be.
And all it took… was hearing a name.
After a long silence, Jiraiya finally sighed.
"The Great Toad Sage is said to be a being that has lived for over a thousand years. But when he heard the name 'Ōtsutsuki Genshiki'... his reaction was overwhelming."
"Unfortunately, he didn't say much afterward. He only warned me to be extremely careful… and then he sent me away."
The group fell into a tense silence.
The less he said, the more serious it was.
Everyone present understood the implications, and it filled them with unease.
Just who was this Ōtsutsuki Genshiki — someone who could make even the Great Toad Sage react like that?
However, no one noticed that Gen, sitting quietly to the side, had an odd look on his face — even a bit… embarrassed.
"I expected a strong reaction, but this is a bit much…"
Watching everyone fall silent, he could only feign ignorance.
After all, this wasn't just a shadow clone — this was his real body, now returned.
He'd finished absorbing all the energy and didn't dare linger outside any longer. He knew perfectly well that what he had done was no small matter. Now he just wanted to see how big the fallout would be.
He hadn't expected that barely a few days after returning, Jiraiya would hit him with this much drama.
"But I guess it's to be expected. The Great Toad Sage fought against Kaguya centuries ago. Hearing about a new Ōtsutsuki would definitely rattle him."
And not just the Great Toad Sage. Gen figured Black Zetsu was probably freaking out too.
After all, he was trying to revive his mother — and now a mysterious new Ōtsutsuki had appeared out of nowhere. That had to throw a wrench in his plans.
"Well, forget about them. I've gained a lot this time."
Whatever happened to the sage or Black Zetsu was Ōtsutsuki Genshiki's problem, not Kitagawa Gen's. As long as he didn't expose himself or sign a summoning contract with Mount Myōboku, he should be fine.
"Ōtsutsuki Genshiki is Ōtsutsuki Genshiki. I'm just Kitagawa Gen. But… Genshiki has leveled up again."
This time, he had absorbed Nine-Tails chakra. While it had good properties, the quality wasn't that high.
Still, by combining it with the innate Yin Release of the Totsuka Blade, it gave him a huge power boost.
"Bloodline development is now at 36%…"
Not fast, but definitely not slow either.
Plus, there were still many secrets in the Totsuka Blade to explore, and he could continue using the Dragon Vein to replenish the Nine-Tails chakra.
Once everything was gathered, his growth would continue!
"Also, this time it wasn't just a tailed beast — I gained Yin Release too. My eyes benefited the most."
Under these layered impacts, he clearly felt his eye progression speed up significantly.
They were still in the "Nascent Eye" phase, but a new ability had awakened:
"Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion…"
At first, he was confused.
"Wait, isn't this move supposed to require the Tenseigan Chakra Mode and those chakra orbs?"
In his understanding, the Rinnegan and Tenseigan were equally powerful but specialized in different directions.
The Rinnegan had a variety of techniques, using abilities to overwhelm enemies.
The Tenseigan, on the other hand, was a showcase of sheer stats — raw destructive power.
Whether it was the Chakra Mode, the Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion, or the moon-splitting Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion, it was all about overwhelming force.
Gen naturally wanted this kind of power. But to awaken it before his eyes had even evolved felt… premature.
"Still, maybe there's a workaround."
Even if it wasn't the Golden Wheel, the Silver Wheel was already strong enough to handle most opponents.
The key now was figuring out how to use it.
"I don't have the chakra orbs, but I just got the Totsuka Blade. If I use the black rods to channel it, I can probably wield it effectively."
"As for the Chakra Mode — I don't have that, and I'm not planning to use Sage Mode while acting as Genshiki…"
"But I do have the blessing of the moon."
Ever since discovering the massive Tenseigan on the moon, which didn't seem to stop supplying him with chakra no matter how much he drew, he had a new idea.
"Since the Silver Wheel relies on Tenseigan power, using the moon's Tenseigan as a core should work too, right?"
With that thought, Gen had a rough plan.
If he hadn't pulled off that last stunt against Obito, he might've already tested it out.
"Still, I know how to proceed now. All that's left is to find the right moment to try."
Gen nodded to himself. Just then, Jiraiya, seemingly trying to break the heavy silence, smiled and said:
"Alright, no point worrying. Why stress over some terrifying enemy? We've had good luck so far — maybe we'll win!"
"…Maybe."
Gen forced a chuckle, snapping out of his thoughts.
But in his mind, he was already picturing himself beating the brakes off everyone in Konoha — inside a Totsuka Blade illusion, of course.
"Of course, the odds of Ōtsutsuki Genshiki running into them are… low, right?"
Jiraiya continued, "I'll go back to Mount Myōboku again when I get a chance. The Great Toad Sage is still a bit unstable. Let's wait till he calms down a bit."
He scratched his head, thinking about the sage's forgetfulness, and then turned to Gen with a grin.
"By the way, I heard you got a bunch of jutsu from the Old Man last time. How's the studying going? And is it true you're working on developing a Kekkei Genkai?"
"That's right. I've been experimenting with it lately."
Since Jiraiya had changed the subject, Gen happily played along. He didn't really want to keep discussing his "alt account."
"The Hokage gave me a lot of material. Based on my strengths, I think Water Release is a promising direction."
"Water Release?" Kakashi looked over, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
"You're strongest with Lightning Release… but if you're studying Water… are you aiming for Storm Release?"
"The Cloud's Storm Release, huh…" Guy blinked a few times, then nodded.
"Sounds like a good plan."
Kakashi gave Guy a sideways glance while Jiraiya muttered, "Water Release, huh. The Second Hokage did excel at it… and pairing it with your Lightning Release could be a strong combo."
"But… isn't that a little too bold?"
"…?"
"You already broke the Fourth Raikage's arm, stole his Lightning Chakra Mode, and now you want to learn their Storm Release too? You're making lifelong enemies here."
"…"
Kitagawa Gen was momentarily speechless. When did I ever say I was working on Storm Release?
Although that technique was indeed part of his long-term plans, it wasn't something he was focusing on right now.
"I'm not working on Storm Release," he clarified, "but rather something else—something simpler, yet more interesting."
"Oh?"
Jiraiya raised an eyebrow in curiosity, and it wasn't just him—Kakashi and Guy both leaned in closer.
"What is it?"
"Remember when we went to the Land of Water? We happened to run into those two…"
Gen smiled as he extended his hand, a faint chakra rippling in his palm.
"Zabuza, and the one named Haku—you're talking about Ice Release?"
Kakashi caught on immediately. Jiraiya's eyes lit up as well.
"Ice Release, huh? But aren't you specializing in Lightning Release?"
"It's not that I'm abandoning Lightning Release," Gen replied with a soft chuckle, "but when Haku used Ice Release back then, I gained a very clear understanding of his chakra composition."
As he spoke, the chakra in his palm grew colder, almost visibly chilling the air.
"So I decided to start with something simple. It will help me better sense and understand other elements down the line. And while the fusion process does consume a lot of chakra, well… I have plenty of that to spare."
As he spoke, the cold, wave-like chakra in his hand solidified, forming a distinct icy aura.
Even Naruto and Sasuke, who were training some distance away, instinctively turned their heads. Meanwhile, Jiraiya, Kakashi, and Guy stood frozen in shock.
"Ice Release…"
Kakashi murmured in awe. He had visited the Land of Snow before and seen Ice Release techniques born from environmental factors.
But what Gen held in his hand—this wasn't something borrowed from nature. This was genuine, a result of pure chakra fusion.
"This is unbelievable…"
Jiraiya couldn't help but let out a breath. Kitagawa Gen truly was something else.
"And that's not all," Gen continued, his tone casual yet confident.
"I remember the Pervy Sage once told me that the Rasengan doesn't inherently possess a chakra nature. That it's possible to infuse it with one."
The moment he finished speaking, the chakra in his hand began to shift.
That cold, frosty chakra started spinning rapidly.
In front of their widened eyes, a crystal-clear Ice Release Rasengan quietly formed in Gen's palm.
"So I experimented by combining the two. I suppose this would be… Ice Release: Rasengan."
He said it with a smile, but none of the three adults could respond.
The Rasengan in his hand was so stable… and so terrifying.
For Jiraiya and Kakashi especially, it brought up memories of Namikaze Minato.
The Fourth Hokage had spent his life trying to evolve the Rasengan—yet he had never succeeded in adding a chakra nature to it.
And here Gen was, not only achieving that feat, but doing it with Ice Release, something even more complex.
"Is this… what a true genius looks like?"
Jiraiya and Kakashi exchanged glances, both uncharacteristically quiet. A thought surfaced in Jiraiya's mind:
"Even if this boy isn't the Child of Prophecy… maybe he's still the one who can stand against Ōtsutsuki Gen-shiki in the future."
---
Mount Myōboku.
The once-majestic great hall now lay in partial ruin, a gaping hole torn through the high ceiling.
"That old fool… What on earth happened?"
Lady Shima muttered as she directed the smaller toads in cleaning and repair work. Though her tone was low, it was clear she was still shaken.
What had occurred earlier was beyond anything she'd expected.
It was the first time she'd ever seen the Great Toad Sage unleash such terrifying power.
"Elder Sage, are you alright?"
Fukasaku approached cautiously, voice low with concern.
"I'm fine, Fukasaku."
The Great Toad Sage shook his head. He didn't seem tired anymore—his aged eyes were now wide open, full of clarity and focus.
"I just didn't expect… for little Jiraiya to bring me such a shocking message."
"Indeed…"
Fukasaku nodded in agreement—though his reasons for being shocked were different.
At least now, the Great Toad Sage no longer seemed like a doddering old fool.
"This Ōtsutsuki Genshiki… Who exactly is he? Why did you—?"
"They…"
The Great Toad Sage murmured, gazing through the hole in the ceiling toward the sky.
"…are the sovereigns of all creation. The architects—and destroyers—of this world."
"In a sense, they are gods."
