"Conrad, just bring him to the office?" Claire asked, staring at the dark, imposing Nelson Group building before turning back.
"Yes. At this hour everyone in the Nelson family is asleep. If we take him home like this he'll wake the elders and cause worry," Conrad replied, stopping the car. He knew the Nelsons' routines well.
Claire nodded. When the car stopped she opened the door. Conrad bent and lifted Alvin, Claire helped steady him while a nearby security guard came over. Together they carried Alvin inside. He was half-asleep, half-conscious.
"Claire." Claire had barely let go when Alvin, propped up by Conrad and the guard, reached a trembling hand toward her and called weakly.
She hadn't planned to go in but Conrad pleaded, "Ms. Miler, please come in with us."
If she didn't stay, Alvin would throw a fit and the night wouldn't settle. Reluctantly she agreed, took his hand, and followed them inside.
