Gilbert narrowed his eyes, studying Claire. Ever since she had walked in, she hadn't looked at him once as if he didn't even exist.
She asked everyone what they wanted for dinner, everyone except him. It was obvious she was deliberately ignoring him.
With a cold snort, he stood up and strode toward the kitchen.
"Claire, where were you today?"
Claire was sorting vegetables when Gilbert came to stand beside her, his expression dark and menacing.
"I went to meet a client," she replied without even lifting her head.
"Really?" His lips curved into a hard line. "I asked your secretary, she said you didn't have any client meetings this afternoon."
Claire's face tightened. "You're ridiculous. Do you report to your secretary every time you step out?"
Gilbert froze for a second, his handsome face shadowed. Then, in a low voice, he asked, "Claire, tell me the truth. Are you avoiding me on purpose?"
She said nothing.
Of course she was avoiding him.
