"Mr. Watson, call the police," Alvin said stiffly, locking his gaze on Gilbert .
Gilbert's brows knotted like a twisted rope, his jaw clenched, the sharpness of his profile exuding menace.
"This is the Taylor estate. I have no authority here. And even if we call the police, I doubt they'll find anything." He suddenly let out a dark, mocking laugh.
Alvin sneered. "Mr. Watson, no matter what, this must be investigated. Claire deserves her name cleared. For me as a man, last night meant little. But Claire nearly lost her reputation. That's not fair to her."
"Exactly. This must be investigated," Claire added coldly, her eyes sharp as blades on Gilbert. "Why am I always the one targeted? Why does it always end without justice?"
She was certain Emma was behind it again, scheming to ruin her reputation so Gilbert would never think of her as more than a nuisance. That woman's cruelty knew no bounds.
