A Husband's Entry
The door was not closed all the way it was open a little bit. This made a dark space that cut into the warm and cozy light of the hall. In the doorway a figure was standing still like it was waiting for something to happen. It seemed like the air was waiting too like the whole room was holding its breath and waiting to see what the figure would do next. The door and the figure were just standing there frozen in time waiting for something to happen.
"Well, well…"
The words came out really smooth and low. They had a warmth to them. This made the women in the room stop what they were doing. They were caught off guard by how intimate the sound was. It was not a voice. The voice of this person was like a presence in the room. It was like a pull that grabbed everyones attention. Every woman in the room looked at him because of this. The voice had an effect on every instinct and every glance, from the women.
