The sound of heavy footsteps, and Idris' long stride to the door disrupted my line of thoughts, and forced me back into reality, forcing me to listen with regret, the clicking sound produced by Idris as he proceeded to unlock the door.
Now that I was back to reality, the realization that Idris had called the police on me hit me hard. I had thought he loved me far too much to ever hand me over to the police, but I was wrong. He clearly loved the kids more, and even Leonard and Nicole more than he ever loved me. I searched for Idris' eyes but his gaze was fixed to the door, and when he did look at me for a brief moment, his eyes held nothing but a coldness and emptiness that looked so much like pain.
