Nicole's voice came so suddenly and unexpectedly that Leonard and I looked up quickly, almost at the same time. It was bad enough that she saw us reading the write-up. What was worse was that she had also heard Leonard say that she must not see the write-up.
She was walking towards us now, and her eyes were fixed on Leonard and the paper which he held, and had tried to put away but Nicole's fixed gaze had made him reconsider. She stopped when she got close to him, so close that only half a metre separated their bodies from touching.
"No, you can't…" Leonard started to say when Nicole motioned for him to hand the sheet of paper over to her but he stopped talking when she reached for it instead, and snatched it away from his hold. Leonard made a move to snatch it back but stopped. He must have noticed the seriousness i in her expression or maybe it was because Nicole's eyebrows were already arched, and her gaze was already on the paper.
