We had forgotten about the threats to our safety, Leonard and I. Maybe not totally but mostly. I was no longer scared of going out like I was, in the first few months after we got the messages. Now, I hardly thought about the threats, could go out when I wanted, and most importantly I had considered and decided that all three children were ready to begin school.
For months, I watched Leonard get prepared, and leave for the office with my breath hitched, and heaved a sigh only when I saw his convoy drive into the compound in the evenings.
After about one month of worrying, during which nothing happened, I gradually stopped worrying. I no longer watched Leonard get prepared and leave for the office with my breath hitched but I would heave a sigh of relief when I saw his convoy driving into the compound. Soon, I only remembered the messages once a while, and it lacked the impact it used to have on me.
