Chapter 54 - The Old Lady

"Lance…Shire?" asked Everlin.

"That is correct," said Danso.

Everlin made Danso find a wyrmtiger that was part of the pack. It was flat on its head while scratching its stomach, while being upside down.

"This one has personality," said Danso with a gentle smile.

Everlin whistled and the wyrmtiger quickly flipped over shaking its head to clean itself and Danso mounted the tiger and followed Everlin. Danso had thought riding the wyrmtiger would be a problem but in reality it was like riding a horse and this time the horse would not throw Danso off its back since Everlin was around.

Danso and Everlin rode off into a forest with the dark green trees with spiky leaves pinching Danso every time he touched them. There were many bugs and fireflies whose fire was powered by soul energy. The purple mushrooms glowed elegantly as they became more frequent the more Danso rode deeper into the forest. There was a dirt road that was carved on the ground that kept on telling Everlin where he wanted to go. Danso thought that ruined the secret mystic aesthetic of the place but decided not to say anything about it.

After reaching a patch of grass that seemed ordinary, Everlin paused for a minute and pointed his right hand and only held his index finger up. He chanted some chants in Ancient Glassacian and a blue light popped out of his hand and flew to the sky. It exploded as it reached as high as it could and it was above the trees.

The light then came crashing down causing Danso to jump and pull the wyrmtiger back by a couple feet. Everlin started to chuckle as he saw Danso do that. The light was harmless and it did nothing and when Danso realised that he started feeling embarrassed.

"It's a natural reflex," said Danso, coughing.

"Sure," said Everlin.

The light started to float above Everlin's head and started to fly off straight. Everlin smacked the wyrmtiger's neck and it started to run. Danso did the same but gently and it also started to run but not as fast as Everlin's tiger.

Eventually Everlin stopped and Danso was wondering why he stopped but he could not find a way to stop the tiger. Since there was nothing ahead and the tracks continued Danso decided to continue riding.

Then as soon as he reached Everlin and tried to pass him Danso's head hit a hard wall and he bounced back after falling down on the floor and scratching his head.

"It is an energy field powered by the Aurora," said Everlin.

"What even is the Aurora?" asked Danso.

Everlin tapped his knuckles on the field and knocked. Some archers and brutes wearing protective fur armor appeared and yelled in Ancient Glassacian. Everlin responded while raising his hand and the archer who spoke to Everlin looked back and instructed the brutes to open the doors. The brutes and archers looked very different from each other. The marks on their faces are different with the brutes having a tattoo of the ax on their right cheek with palish blue stripes on their left cheek while archers have arrows perched behind their ears and they carry bows and arrows along with red stripes along both their cheeks. The brutes wear much heavier fur and iron armor while the archers wear lighter but more soul energy enhanced armor.

As the field started to disappear the village was much more visible. It had wooden and alkanium walls with large metal doors at the entrance. There were also lighthouses and watchtowers planted all over the village. It looked like a mix of a modern and an ancient civilization.

The houses were delicate huts with alkanium for structure even though it had a lot of cultural value with the paintings on the walls and the houses it seemed like a fortress with the amount of military support they had and the alkanium walls.

"This is the city of Latsavia," said Everlin welcoming Danso inside the gates.

The roads were bustling with merchants and kids running away from their friends while happily playing with each other. The kids had white stripes on their cheeks while the working humans had dark blue stripes and the non-working humans had no stripes at all on their cheeks.

"Speaking of your question earlier," said Everlin.

"Yeah?" asked Danso.

"None of us know why the Aurora exists. Arjen Iron tried to do tests with the Aurora but failed. Even attempting to harness it brutally harmed the scientists," said Everlin.

"Maybe it is a leakage of the 5th dimension?" asked Danso.

"Could be the case but if it is then we must be able to manipulate it easily," said Everlin.

Danso recalled how the dimensional theory worked. The dimension above you, you should be able to control and the dimensions below you, you should be able to co-exist with. For example the people in the third dimension can co-exist with space and manipulate time. The 4th dimension beings can co-exist with time and manipulate souls.

"What if it's a leakage from a dimension that's higher?" asked Danso.

"Then we are in serious trouble," said Everlin with a grim look on his face.

"It couldn't be that bad right?" asked Danso.

"The beings in the 6th dimension are more powerful than you can imagine and if the Aurora is caused by them then they probably are interested in taking over this dimension," said Everlin.

Danso nodded his head and understood. He looked above to see the stars and wondered what was beyond them.

"One of these days I will reach there…to the very top," said Danso smiling.

They walked past the shops to reach a shed at the back of the village. The road to the shed was not cleaned and it looked run down with leaves covering the place and the shed covered in dust. The shed had a hay bale like roof with the same wooden and alkanium hut that the normal residents use.

Everlin pushed past the woolen curtain and walked inside the shed. Danso did the same and was amazed at how neat and clean everything was inside. There was a cotton sofa with a table in front of it and there was a dining table, a mattress on the floor, a kitchen, and a bathroom. It was a cozy home that was small and sufficient for one person.

Then an old woman walked out of the washroom with her brown wooden walking stick. Her left hand was on her back and she was complaining about how the medicine that Everlin got was not working and that he is not a good human being because of that.

Everlin took a seat and gestured to Danso to do the same. After the old lady completed her rant she took a chair from the dinner table and sat adjacent to the small tea table in front of the couch. She had wrinkles all over her body and delicate white hair with pale blue eyes.

"Who is this person?" asked the Old Lady in Glassacian

"That is no way to address a guest, mother," said Everlin.

Danso could not understand what she was saying and what Everlin was replying but he could make out that they both had a close bond almost like a mother and a son.

"Is she your mother?" asked Danso.

"Yes," replied Everlin.

"Why does he sound like a foreigner?" asked the Old Lady.

"Because he is. According to him he accidentally teleported here and needs to go back home. The problem is that his soul energy broke," said Everlin.

"You're using your mother for your work? Can't you let me live the rest of my life in peace?" complained the Old Lady.

The Old Lady saw Danso glancing around the house, completely lost and sighed. She tapped her walking stick on the ground and the stick turned into a staff that seemed covered in cherry blossom bark with a pink orb embedded in it. She chanted a few words and directed them towards Danso. Danso got startled and Everlin held him.

His mind started to go dizzy and his eyes started to spin. Soon he started to comprehend what the villagers outside the hut were speaking, he smirked at the foul language teenagers were speaking while playing, and then he looked at the Old Lady.

"I can understand you now," said Danso.

"And I can understand you too," replied the Old Lady.

Danso looked around the house to notice that Everlin had left.

"Where is Everlin?" asked Danso.

"He went to work. You have to deal with me now," said the Old Lady.
