Chapter 2 - Lost Angel

"But...I'm still alive..."

Now I stand upon the terrace in my hoodie, watching the biggest funeral ever held on earth.

My mansion.

3.8 billion guests, all weeping.

"The last Kimistry is gone. H-How do we live without the heir to the biggest company on the planet!?" One of the guests near my mother screamed. My mother, desolate, lost and heartbroken, stared at my face tucked between sheets of white in my coffin.

I scoffed to myself.

"Funny how aunt Rebecca is acting. We all knew her ploy to get her son in my position, right, mom?" I said to the air around me. The system warned me, though.

*TI-TING*

It read. I scoffed silently this time.

'This is the afterlife, isn't it?' I sighed, thinking in my head, 'It's so peaceful and...powerful. I love this silence.'

But my eyes drooped. Thoughts began flooding like a dam opened.

'But when silence gets too loud...? I...I don't want to live like this. I don't want to live outside my own body and watch my mother be so lonely. She's lost everything already. I'm her only pillar!'

My brows furrowed, my expression hardened.

And suddenly,

*TI-TING*

I hated that sound...

PRESS ○ TO LIVE.

PRESS × TO DIE.>

Die? Dude. I'm already dead.

But...does dying here mean I get to live there? The Real World? Or as they say...The realm of living?

I was willing to take that risk.

But...

Ugh...I have so many 'Buts'

'What could be the consequences, though...?'

I thought. Upon my thought, the instruction board against the dark appeared. The constant in and out of darkness was messing with me. It was stupid!

Also, time pauses when I go to the system. Then resumes when I come out. So irritating!

Huh?

Does that mean...I get to use the system even alive in my world? Isn't this supposed to be exclusive to the souls that wander? Why was I the only one in the system!?

Suddenly, a familiar voice resounded in my head!!

"COME...LIVE..."

'...Professor Dem Dave...?"

My eyes WIDENED! HE WAS IN THE SYSTEM!

Beyond the Cyan board was Prof. Dem Dave, hands tied to the back.

"PROFESSOR—" Before my hand could lift to reach, ask him about this realm, or at least call his name, he disappeared. It was as if dense black fog consumed him.

What was that...?

Moment by moment, my curiosity had only been elevating. I couldn't take it anymore.

'Noir System...Get me back to the living realm.' I thought.

It was a wish? More like a command.

"HAAAA!!!!"

"WHAT THE FU— IT'S HIS GHOST!!! RUNNN!"

I SAT UP AWAKE FROM MY COFFIN LIKE A VAMPIRE ON HALLOWEEN! Except, I was actually real and not a robot like the others! Fanfictions went too far in this era!

"EVERYONE CALM DOWN!" I yelled, as if that could help! My mother, wide eyed and almost on the verge of fainting, looked at me strangely. I thought I'd convince her first!

"Mom...I'm alive. I'm not a zombie! I can talk! T-Take me to the hospital!"

And I ended up in the hospital.

Staring through the window they left open.

"T-This is a miracle, Mrs. Kimistry. He was supposed to be dead! I declared him dead myself!" The headache family doctor whispered at last. My mother shook her head.

"I don't care about miracles, doctor. My son is somehow alive. You will find out why." She said boldly. That's my mom. The doctor was left shaken in his timbers.

"Mom..." I said, holding my hand out.

"It hurts..." I moaned in agony. Well...fake agony.

Noir system gave me a potion update, just before I gained consciousness.

PRESS ○ FOR YES

PRESS × FOR NO>

I took the obvious choice.

But it was hard to pretend to be in pain when I've never felt it.

My mother sat on my leg accidentally. My skin supposedly peeled away with friction. I didn't feel a thing. Yet, it started bleeding profusely.

"My love..." tears reached her chin, her lips wobbled. Her hand, her soft, warm, motherly hand hovered over my cheek, never touching.

I had 3rd degree burns covering 99.8% of my body.

"Mom..." I croaked out.

"Uh-uh...don't speak, my love. Oh God...why did this happen to you?" She cried.

"Mom, I'm fi—"

"Well well well...isn't the family complete again. Haha!"

My expression changed.

"Baron Macaco..."

I whispered. My mum turned so swiftly, she almost broke her spine. The lady who feared no one on this earth gave such a reaction to Baron Macaco?

"I-I was about to talk to him." Said mom.

"Too late, Jane Kimistry~ Hehe..." His creepy laugh was sending me—

"Oliver...your mother and I...we had a pact." The Baron replaced my mother's seat by my bed. His fatso ass almost tipped the bed over.

"I'm gonna have to take your eyes...for you know, research."

'But I'm still alive, fatso.' I said in my head.

"I've already granted permission. Patents signed...by your mother." My brow kept raising higher. Pus and blood trickled down, but that was all I felt.

"Or what?" I asked. Admittedly, I sounded rude.

"Your mother is a beautiful woman, Oliver...he he he..." That creepy laugh had me questioning everything.

But gosh...I did NOT fucking except him to say—

"IF I DO NOT HAVE YOUR EYES IN MY POSESSION, OLIVER TRON JADE KIMISTRY...

I'M GOING TO SPEND A VERY LONG NIGHT WITH YOUR MOTHER..."
