Meredith and Kai decides to go to school together as planned to speak to Kai meanwhile Ethan was freaking out, he was nervous to face Kai. They got this school and enters the school heading to Ethan's class. All the students seeing them started whispering," is that not the girl that came with Ethan the others day? Has Ethan and Kai really broken up?" Some guys were saying how beautiful she was and how much she was their type but Ethan ignored all of them.
He walked to the class with Meredith hoping to see Kai but was disappointed as he didn't see Kai. Both of them sat down together. Ethan's eyes were glued to his wristwatch as it was almost time for the first class to begin. As the first class was about to begin, Kai mindlessly walked in whispering a sorry to the lecturer that he woke up late. Ethan was so happy to see him that he forgot that he was angry at him. He waved at him and signalled the chair he kept for him but Kai walked past him, ignoring him like he didn't exist.
Kai did what he did because he saw Meredith sitting beside him and became even more angry.
The bell signaling the end of the day rang, and Ethan's heart sank. He hasn't spoken to him all day and Ethan was beginning to feel the weight of kai's silence. He looked at Meredith who was sitting beside him and saw a flicker of disappointment in her eyes. She noticed kai's behavior too. " What do we do now?", she asked, her voice low. Ethan sighed . He knew he couldn't just let things go. He needed to talk to Kai. " let's go find him", he said, hus voice firm. " We need to figure this out." Meredith nodded in agreement.
Together, they made their way through the bustling hallways , navigating the throngs of students who were eager to leave the confines of the school . Whisper's floated around them, snippets of conversations that spoke of Ethan and Meredith , of their unexpected pairing, and of the tension that had arisen between Ethan and Kai
As they approached the library, a familiar sanctuary for Kai, Ethan's heart raced. He could already picture him there surrounded by books, immersed in a world world were reality could nit touch him. When they entered the library, the soft rustling of pages and the faint scent of old paper enveloped them. There at a secluded table at the back, sat Kai, his head buried in a thick novel.
Ethan hesitated for a moment. The gravity of what he's about to do pressing down on him. But Meredith gave him a gentle nudge and he took a deep breath, steeling himself for the conversation. As they approached , Kai looked up, his expression shifting from surprise to something more guarded.
" Ethan," he said, his voice clipped and cold. " What do you want?" Ethan felt a pang of hurt at the dismissive tone but pushed it aside . This wasn't about him; it was about their relationship , about the unspoken rift that had grown between them. " We need to talk," he said despite the turmoil within him. " About what happened today."
Kai's brows furrowed and he set the book down, crossing his hands defensively. " What's there to talk about. You've got your new friend now", he replied, a hint if bitterness lacing his words . Meredith sensing the tension moved back and allowed the two boys to confront the issue head on. Ethan took a moment to gather his thoughts, feeling the weight of kai's jealousy and anger. " It's not like that, Kai", he began, hus voice earnest . " Meredith is my friend, but you're my boyfriend . I don't want this to come between us."
Kai's expression hardened further and Ethan could see the conflict in his eyes. " You didn't seem to care when you ignored me in class," he shot back, his voice raising slightly . " You just sat there with her, acting like I didn't exist." Ethan felt a surge of frustration. " I didn't ignore you! I was trying to reach out but you wouldn't let me. You even refused to come seat with me. What's going on with you."
Kai's defenses started to crack and Ethan, for a moment thought he saw a glimpse of the old Kai. The one had laughed and shared secrets without hesitation. But the moment passed and Kai looked away , focusing on the table instead. " I don't know, Ethan. Maybe I'm just tired of feeling like I'm not enough," he admitted quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.
The vulnerability of kai's words struck Ethan hard. He realized that their relationship was not just about the fun times that they shared , it was also about the insecurities and fear that lay beneath it. " You are enough, Kai," he said, his tone softening. " You've always been enough for me. I don't want to lose you over this "
Kai finally met Ethan's gaze, and fir the first time, Ethan saw the hurt and confusion reflected in his boyfriend's eyes. " I just....I don't want to feel like I'm competing for your attention," Kai confessed , his voice trembling slightly. Ethan took a step closer, covering the distance between them. " You don't have to compete with anyone. You're my boyfriend and that won't change. I care about you and I want us to be okay. You know what let's all go out of here and talk besides I'm hungry."
As they settled in a cozy corner of the lunchroom. The atmosphere felt charged with unspoken words. Meredith took a deep breath. He eyes darting between Ethan and Kai before speaking up. " Kai, I think it's time I introduce myself properly and clear the air." She said ,her voice steady and soft. Kai raised and eyebrow, intrigued but cautious ." Okay, go ahead," he replied crossing his hands.
Meredith continued," I want you to know that I was never in love with Ethan. I only came here to avoid disappointing my parents. I'm in love with someone else but my parents won't accept that relationship." She paused, gauging their reactions. " At first, I thought I could just frustrate Ethan's life but when I realized that he was actually nice and we had a lot in common. I decided to be friends with him. And I also see how much you both care about each other. I would never come in between you too. I'm sorry if my presence hurt you in any way."
Kai's expression softened as he listened to her. " I appreciate you saying that," he replied. " I'm sorry for how I acted towards you. I was just feeling insecure and hurt. It wasn't fair to take it out on you." " It's fine Kai," Meredith said. " I know you're sweet. Ethan talks about you all the time ."
Kai turned to Ethan, his gaze searching for understanding," baby, I'm sorry. I should have trusted and loved you. I acted like a jerk and I'm really sorry. Will you forgive me?" Ethan pretended to be upset ," don't talk to me and don't touch me. You are a big bully and a meanie . I don't live you anymore or want you. Let's break up," he said trying to sound serious. " Huh, break up? Babe I'm sorry. I promise I won't act like an idiot again." Ethan pushed him away," no don't come close to me." Kai tried again," but I'm sorry."
Ethan could notice that Kai was about to cry then burst out laughing. " You should see how you look, you look funny," he said as he kissed Kai, a quick peck on the lips. Kai felt relieved and hugged him. As they hugged, they heard the sound of a camera clicking. They turned and liked at Meredith, she just took their picture. " Awwn , you both look cute. I'll save this picture," she Said . " No Meredith, delete it," Ethan said. " No I'm gonna save it," said Meredith. " I swear if you don't delete it, I'll shave all your eyebrows when you are sleeping at night ," Ethan threatened.
This made Kai burst out laughing. They laughed until Kai told Ethan something that almost chocked Ethan to death. " Ethan, I know it's weird but don't freak out okay? My mom already knows that we are still together." Ethan almost died," what? How?" " Relax sweetie, she isn't mad and infact, she wants to talk to you. Except my dad, he doesn't know yet but my mom promised to keep it a secret from my dad."
Ethan is so worried by this information, but Kai promises him that it was fine and rushed him to finish his lunch so they could go home. He decided to feed Ethan as Ethan was a well known slow eater. Meredith seeing this sais jokenly, trying to sound annoyed and irritated, " why I'm I here. Why I'm I always the third wheel?" This made everyone laugh.
