I had this plan to go back to our old house and check for the book. My mom and I haven't been back there ever since my dad died, now i just need to go back and check for the book but I didn't want to go alone.
I was on my way to Jeremy's house and I was about to ring the doorbell and funny enough jeremy opened the door— What a coincidence.
"Dude, wassup?", Jeremy asked.
"Uhmm, nothing where… where are you going to?", I asked.
"School, where else?, wait a minute, where's your backpack?," Jeremy asked.
"I'm not going to school, I wanted to go back to my old house and check for the book", I said.
"Well good luck then, tell me what you find out," Jeremy said.
"Actually, I wanted you to come with me", I said.
Deep down I know Jeremy wants to come but he's pride won't let him admit it—he's dying to find out what I'll find.
"ARE YOU NUTS!!!?, my mom would kill me if she ever found out I skipped school", Jeremy said.
"Oh come on, we both know miss harison doesn't care about what you do", I said.
"Fine, I'll come but it's because you begged me", Jeremy said.
Just like i said, pride.
"Cool, you drive", I said.
Going back to my old house isn't easy for me, bad memories still swim around the place. I was just seven when my dad died and i think that's the worst thing that's ever happened to me, actually I think it's the worst thing that could happen to anyone.
Finally we're at my old house, Jeremy pulls up by the garage.
"You sure you're okay doing this?", Jeremy said.
Even though I wasn't sure i wanted to do this, I had to. I took a deep breath and then I released it.
"Yeah I'm sure, come on let's go", I said.
We're in front of the front but I couldn't bring myself to open it, I don't know why.
"Uhmm, I think we're meant to open it, but if you aren't ready we could come back another time", Jeremy said.
"No, I'm ready, I…I just need a minute", I said.
Finally the courage to open the door came rushing back into me so I opened it and we went into the house.
It's been so long, the moment we walked in it was like I opened a door for the bad memories to return, the house was a little dusty and I couldn't smell anyother thing than dust. I guess that was expected.
"So, where is the book?," Jeremy asked.
"Huh?," I said, half of my mind still fixated on the fact that I cried so much here.
"The book?, the reason we came here?," Jeremy said.
"Oh yeah, I think it's upstairs," I said.
We went up the stairs and into my room, my room still the same it was when we moved out, the reading table still on the left side and the books still arranged. My dad bought me these books.
"What book are we looking for?," Jeremy asked.
"Uhmm, I…I don't know, it's pretty hard to describe but when I see it I'll know," I said.
We were checking out the books to find what we're looking and then suddenly Jeremy pauses, trying to concentrate his ears on something.
"What's that?," I asked.
"Didn't you hear that?," Jeremy said.
"Nope, maybe you're getting crazy, don't let my haunted house get to you," I said with a little chuckle.
"Yeah sure you're right, maybe it's the ghost in the house," Jeremy said.
At that moment I noticed a book, it was odd from the others, it looked old and dusty with an ancient brown color cover.
I reached out for the book and then shivers ran through my body, a part of me knew that was the book but another part wanted to know why I felt weird when I touched it.
"Wow, is that the book?," Jeremy asked.
"Yeah it is", I said.
"It looks, it looks really old", Jeremy said, his voice had a mix of disappointment in it.
"Yeah i guess so, should we open it?", I said.
Curiosity obviously was killing Jeremy cause I could see it dancing all over his face.
"I mean we didn't come all the way here to offer home services, of course we should open it", Jeremy said.
We didn't know what we would find if we open the book, but shit curiosity was killing me to.
At the point of opening the book we heard the floor creak—I heard it this time.
Jeremy and I froze at the same time our eyes locking like we just realized… we were not alone. We both picked up an item to use to knock out the intruder.
I stood on the left part of the room while jeremy stood on the right part of the room waiting for whoever it was to walk in and then william walked in.
"William?, what the hell are you doing here?", I asked, my face looking all puzzled—How did william know where to find me?.
"Miles?, Jerry?, what a coincidence", william said.
"It's Jeremy and it was no coincidence, you were following us", Jeremy said.
"Well yeah, you caught me, guys their in here", william yelled.
"WHAT!!?, you brought sam and jack?", I asked. Boy did i want to kill him right now.
"Well, we're busted", Jeremy said.
The moment I found out jack was here, I knew he would want to take the book if it was the right one.
"Miles?, jerry?", guess you did know what I was talking about all along", Jack said.
"It's Jeremy, how doesn't anyone get that", Jeremy said.
"Did you guys open the book?", Sam asked, looking very concerned.
"No, chill okay?", I said.
"Well we were about to open it until you guys interrupted", Jeremy said.
Just as my fingers curled around the cover, ready to pull it open, a hand shot out of nowhere and ripped the book from my grasp.
"Are you insane?!" Jack snapped, eyes wide—not with anger, but fear. Real fear.
"You can't open this", sam said.
"Wait a minute, I can't feel the magic in the book", Jack said.
"What do you mean you can't feel the magic", I said.
"What are you? A magic detector", Jeremy said with a little chuckle.
"Ha ha ha, we usually feel the magic a magical object emits, but I can't…I can't feel anything", jack said.
What jack had just said got me worried a little bit—shit I was piss on pants worried.
"Hold on if you're serious, what does it mean?", Jeremy asked, finally realized it wasn't a joke.
"It means someone opened the book", Jack said, a shadow of worry crossed his face, like he was afraid that I had opened the book.
"If you guys don't have the guts to open it, leave it to me", I said, before he could react, I snatched the book from his hands and opened it, my curiosity louder than his hesitation.
It was empty—they were afraid of opening a blank book?.
"What's up?, what did you see," Jeremy asked, his face painted with curiosity.
"Nothing, it's…it's blank," I answered.
"What do you mean it's blank," Jack said, grabbing the book from my hands, flipping the pages.
"It's an empty book —well, that's a relief," I said.
"Yeah, you telling me? I nearly pissed my pants, like, I literally almost pissed my pants," Jeremy said.
"EW, dude why did you…never say that, it's disgusting," I said.
Jack was still searching through the book, looking all surprised—guess he was expecting something.
"Hold on, what's that?," sam asked.
"What's what?," jack asked.
"I saw something written on a page," sam said.
"Oh please, that's your mind playing tricks," jeremy said.
"Oh shut up jericho," sam said.
"It's jeremy," Jeremy said.
Jack was flipping the pages backwards to avoid missing anything—that's if there is anything to miss.
Unfortunately for Jeremy there was something written on one of the pages.
"Well, well, well, I guess there was something written in the book after all," jack said, facing the book towards Jeremy's face that says 'disappointment'.
"Well what does the word 'xypnó' mean?," william asked.
"It's greece, it means 'awaken'," Jack said.
"Awaken?, well what are we awakening?, Jeremy asked.
"Dude, come on not everything is a joke, this is serious," I said.
"Well, excuse me for trying to light up the mood," Jeremy said.
"Uhmm, guys, is anyone else bothered by the two guys watching us from across the street?," william said.
We never noticed anybody watching us cause we were too busy checking out the book.
"What do you mean watching us?," jack said, moving over to the window to take a look.
"They could be two friendly people from the neighborhood who observed some movements in a house that has been abandoned for years," Jeremy said.
"We need to move now," jack said.
The moment jack said those words the two guys came running towards the house.
"Ok, they are not friendly neighbors, we need to run now," Jeremy yelled.
Before any of us could take the action of running the tool guys took a leap heading this way but I'm telling you this was no ordinary leap, they came smashing through the walls of the house.
"Oh shit," Jeremy breathed.
